You realize people play pet classes for the PETS. Why don't people get that. We are angry because summoner never felt like a summoner class from the very start. Summoner should be a priority because it'a one of the jobs people play. Yes channeling bahamut is cool and all but the egis should be looked at and changed (which they are but we dont know the progress of said change). Jobs are a form of content so don't say they should just be ignored.
Said it before but Summoner class should have gotten 2 abilities per 2 level up in HW. 5 of those are the ones we have now and the other 5 would be new Pet Actions. Unfortunately SE decided to ignore Pet's entirely. But Ifrit's Radiant Shield applies to everyone now so cool I guess?
Quite a few assumptions there, bud. Please do not assume all summoners play for the sake of pets, I can guarantee you this is exceedingly wrong. And why should it be a priority? Is it a job? Yes. However, as it stands it is an EXCEEDINGLY powerful job with so many benefits it's ridiculous. But you're saying that your pet GLAMOUR should take a higher priority over what I've posted? Over actual job issues? Over stagnating content? You do realize how arrogant that is, right? Furthermore, you do realize that the dev team is way smaller than it should be, and thus has to prioritize issues? You're saying that all the other issues take a back-seat to your precious egi-looks. Because that is what priority means.
We cant have that though because they want to be the powerhouses and not the pets, THERE PRECIOUS BIG NUMBERS IS ALL THAT MATTERS. Also Contagion should never have been a pet skill.
Pets looking the way they are is just not appealing. Even if they dont have more actions they should be changed to look less plain and actually feel like pets.
Summoner egis are only an appeal when the job itself doesn't have much pet management aside from pressing 2 buttons to buff your pet, one ability that orders them to do their ultimate attack, and manually pressing pet skills (though I only do it with Garuda for Contagion) You do far more work than the pet does.
As for why people do not believe FFXIV's SMN isn't a Summoner because their summons are just too small for them (Oooh no!) is just silly.
It's a Summoner because it can summon an Eidolon (or in here, a Primal's essence) to their will, that simply makes them a Summoner.
For me the Egi's just feel tacked on and don't really have the feel of a real pet class. If I ever run SMN I just pull out Ifrit to contribute a chunk of my overall DPS. And pop Rouse Spur Enkindle when available. I don't really enjoy the class as much as is. But a lot of other people do.
The way I look at it is you are a Necromancer with a familiar. Necromancers generally spread diseases to weaken and debilitate their foes. Which is what the SMN here does. With the occasional Satellite Laser beam.
I definitely see you point here, but I think the contention people are having with what you are saying stems more from the fact that this thread was not meant to pull attention away from the classes perks/needs as much as the OP was just stating they feel strongly about the appearance of the egi and would like a change.
I think there isn't really any harm in calling out for a change in appearance, but I do also agree that the class awesome as it stands now. As longs as the vanity doesn't take priority over a glaring flaw (if any should arise) I am cool with a new look for egis.
Before Bahamut we were mostly excluded from content because too slow, too weak and such...
Now we at least will be considered but because of tight DPS checks mostly ninjas with their buff or dragoons with their buff are taken priority!
You know: each dmg add helps on DPS checks and BLM is slightly doing better in that...
Square enix helped a bit with limit slowly filling if you bring 2 BLM, but other than that SMN isnt seen often in statics...
We are strong, but we can not help others to do more damage and mostly it is much harder to keep our DPS high the entire fight...
Well, i dont see enemies live long enough to play our DPS to its fullest... they mostly die before 40s pass! (talking from adds) (because when adds die fast, you can do more DPS on boss with DPS checks)
You do realize changes can be done and applied at the same time right? Sure, resources will be used on it that could be put to other stuff, but nobody is suggesting a complete summoner overhaul and nobody is saying it should be done yesterday. This is merely a small texture/model/size change some players would like to see, and for what i've seen been asked for a while now, some feedback on planned changes to the egi from SE would be a start.
