The Hunt Public Shaming Needs to end

Someone who finds a hunt mark with their party first and pulls it- not a troll.
Someone who doesn't find a hunt mark, and is simply near the front of the line of people to get there immediately after it's announced (and before the person who found its party can even arrive) and who pulls it- definitely a troll.

Some do it over and over while there's a couple dozen people behind them who perhaps might not have the same VOIP client or unauthorized plug-in to help them get there as fast. People in the game can dick each other over without breaking the ToS, and that's what Naming and Shaming is meant to be used for. I don't do hunts anymore because I find the content disappointing- it could have been challenging and fun, more like Odin/Behemoth or the 30 min 'ooh this is too hard for most people to bother with' fates and less like 100 people in a tightly packed room trying to stomp on an ant and get credit for it. But I do like seeing other people do it.

Yes and no. SE has created a situation where pretty much everyone can get credit in a properly set up environment (you should only hunt as a tank with Defiance/Shield Oath up or a WHM, or *maybe* a MNK to strip buffs off certain hunt targets). So anyone who finds a hunt has a choice, they can either choose to just kill it (or not wait for very long), or they can do shouts and share it with others who are hunting. They'll receive the same reward either way. However, if they share, then everyone gets credit and they didn't have to do anything other than wait a couple min.

Moreover, if you wait, it's going to increase the likelihood that others will wait for you. So it can help you out too.

So while anyone that pulls pretty quickly may not be a "troll", they are kind of being a dick when they didn't have to be.

Public shaming is the only way some people actually learn. In many cases, it's undeserved or just flat-out wrong to do so, simply because said person did nothing wrong. With how stupidly overdone hunts currently are, "early pulls" are very situational and extremely hard to claim while being in the right of it. It's currently all about being there IMMEDIATELY rather than holding for a few seconds like you could during 2.4.

In other cases however, I say go for it. For example, back before it was yet to be officially stated that resetting hunts can be a reportable offense, I would go on /shout to tell people to report said person. Some folks defended their actions under the general bull**** of the "greater good" argument, and strictly believed it was a fine thing. They'd go as far as admitting that they will always be doing it because they can. Lo and behold, it is officially stated as a violation and reportable... no one does it anymore simply because they're now cowering in fear of repercussions for something they were once so adamant about.

Not entirely true. The mob has a finite amount of hit points, so a finite number of people can get full credit.

Yeah I remember when that was a thing... someone finds a hunt mark solo or with a small party, zerg comes along and someone takes it over and resets it, and the person who found it ends up with 2 allied seals. The whole system just sucks, the fact that this whole discussion is even happening (over who can get credit for doing something easy) should be a sign something's wrong... they might as well just spawn a random NPC that gives allied seals to the first _ people to talk to them.

It's like going to a classroom full of 24 kids with a box of 12 ice cream cones to pass out and telling them 'free ice cream for whoever can clap their hands together.", giving the box to one of the kids to hand out as they see fit and leaving. And then showing up the next day wih another box saying 'Oh sorry we realize there weren't enough for everyone so here's 12 more.' and then handing the new box to that same kid to pass out.

because @ Kinseykinz = you are talking directly to me so I am responding directly back. I am not attacking you, I'm responding. And in general 'your side' (which is what I'm referring to by the way, you and people who agree with you...English is sure a funny language in that 'you' can be both singular and plural) keeps creating issues that go above and beyond what hunts were designed to be.

So do I think it's stupid that SE keeps gating 'gear upgrades' behind a system that can be easily manipulated? Yup.
Do I think anyone actually needs any of the hunt items/drops? Nope.
Do I think it's childish to name-call in shout for really any reason (not just hunt related). Yup.
Do I think this system brings out the cesspool of the community. Yup.
Do I think anyone has more 'right' over a mob than anyone else. Nope.
Is it possible to pull early? Nope.
Do the people who actually designed the game believe you can pull early? Nope.
Nor was this content designed to be played in the manner it currently is. Now that's of course 100% on SE that they designed it in such a way+ added rewards people would want and want fast=the problem.
Am I fully aware that different servers have differing degrees of 'nastiness' when it comes to the hunt. Sure am. It's 80% of the reason I left my old server. Because even though I wasn't even actively hunting, I was so tired of the /sh bickering it was ruining my enjoyment of the game/game atmosphere.


PS: All they need to do to 'fix' the hunts is stop putting the tome gear upgrade items in them and/or make it so AT THE SAME TIME, these same items drop in other places. Heck, they could make it so the occasional leve dropped an Unstained Mark Log. Even that would lessen the mass of people scrambling to do them. It makes no sense why they don't allow WoD to drop the items at the same time they release them via the hunts though. (The WoD quest could even just give you 2 Unstained Mark Logs a week as that would equal an accessory upgrade every week or a gear upgrade every-other) My point, it's these stupid logs that are making people frenzy. And SE made it WORSE by effectively making the same gear upgrade from this summer now cost what? double even with 'inflation' meaning people need to grind hunts more for the same upgrades.


All your (this time I do mean you personally) ideas to fix Hunts would just either hamper down the system, or make it even in some respects worse. Which is the other problem. The actual mechanics behind how hunts work are just fine...and we know this if for no other reason than once the coveted items gained from this activity are gained fairly easily through other means...and to some degree when the initial wave of 'must have it now Sally's' get what they want, typically hunts die down and are reasonable (and for the most part civil) on most if not all, servers. So it's not the actual system, or the hunts themselves that are causing the issue...but the rewards for what is seen as 'little effort' on the community's end that is.


And the 'everyone should wait for everyone' solution to the current system is also flawed at best. The problem is, you CAN'T. Really you can't. Someone is going to not make the cut every single time. Why? Because there's just too many people, and as you (and you personally) pointed out, even an S rank is only actually designed for 24 people to take down. So once you have more people in the area than that, every second the gathering group waits is technically 'bonus' time. They don't need to wait...they choose to wait. Which is all fine and dandy...but shouldn't be expected beyond what is actually required to take down the mob.

And that is my main point. I don't care that people wait. I don't care that people zerg. But if you're late (not you specifically), don't whine about it move on. And if you're late (again not you personally), because your playing on a slower system, well sadly, that's too bad. And the devs fault for creating a system, that abusing it is so popular that your load times (which they should develop for), equal you (again not you personally) cannot easily participate. Still, if the community in general would actually do hunts in a more or less 'intended' fashion, even someone playing on a PS3 in podunk could have fun.

Keep in mind SE never said in order to hunt:

1. You must wait for everyone interested to arrive be for engaging
2. You must announce to the entire server the target has spawned and/or it's location
3. You must group at ALL ...and that if you do group, it must be organized via FC's/LS's/3rd party chat and communication systems solely dedicated to this content. And that these sources should communicate amongst each other.
4. That you must wait for the 'designated puller'/ 'pull time' to pull. And if you don't your account will be temp-banned, and that players have a right to scream at you.
5. That you must grind the content in order to earn gear strong enough to progress within the game.

All they said is: Here are some open-world mobs you all asked for. They drop a different currency which can be used to buy these things. We recommend that you do A ranks in groups of 8 and S ranks in groups of 24. Happy hunting.

Again, it was not wise (and they really should have learned from this summer), to include Poetic's upgrade key items amongst the hunt rewards, SE should really re-evaluate that...but it was the community itself and not SE that turned hunts into the unpleasant crap-fest they are. And it's the community, bickering over the hunts that is ruining the atmosphere for both those engaging and those avoiding the hunts alike. I just want the entitlement and bickering to stop. No one, other than the initial group that find the mob...even if you were standing in the same zone 13 yalms away, automatically deserves full credit for something they didn't technically find. It's great that people are willing to share intel, and wait on others...but the expectation that it's done is the problem. They are being nice. Understand that. But nice has a limit....and if you (again, not you personally) miss the cut, suck it up and deal with it.

Only in FFXIV, the person who brought the ice cream arrives the next day to find one kid ate all the ice cream and didn't share with ANYONE.

It's based entirely on threat after you hit it. A few healers spamming medica/medica2/cureIII (after they hit it with 1 aero) in your party and you'll be hard pressed not to get full credit. Even better with WAR/PLDs executing their highest threat moves (with unchained+berserk or FoF active).

If I'm in a group with a couple tanks and a couple healers, I always get full credit on As that were only alive for 4-5 GCDs.

It's actually worse. It's like walking in with 6 ice cream cones, handing them out to the first 6 students to raise their hands and then telling the class that every one gets an ice cream cone if and only if all 6 of those kids sit there with their ice cream cone for 3 min and don't eat it.

Definitely, tanks and healers have it a lot easier because they generate more threat and do less damage, so basically they allow more people to get full credit. I don't understand why so many people hunt on DPS classes.
