The title shows a very back&white way of seeing the situation.
We old players and Legacy members have supported the game, and in order not to lose this last batch of fans the game needs to be remade so that it can stay open. To ignore us entirely is bad business, so our feedback is at very least taken into consideration. We also know what 1.0's problems were, and can make educated assessments of how certain features can be improved.
In order for it to stay open, though, it needs outside players to come in (such as players of WoW and other MMOs). Thus there is a need to add features and tweak existing ones to appeal to them as well.
Even Yoshida recognizes that they can't satisfy every customer, but he's trying to keep as many of the above-mentioned players as possible. No, this won't be XI-2 because XI is still standing and SE can still make money from it. No, this won't be XIV+more content because by remaking the game they have an opportunity to improve existing features beyond graphics/connectivity.
Edit: just noticed 2 posts above me pointed out the original post date. Why is this in the hot topics again? You all had me scared people still make this sort of thread.
Are we getting necromancer?! Someone just brought this thread back from the dead!
in before the lock!

WHYYYY....?
I kind of like what the OP said, even with it being posted so long ago there was some foresight into what was needed. It seems to be exactly as they had predicted, thats a good thing. Appealing only to the people that stayed will not make the game successful, I think the only reason most people stayed was because of the promise of a revision. As Mr. Spock said "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (or the one)."
