And that if you piss off the tank they might end up waiting a long time for a replacement tank, so they might just keep the insults for themselves. -hehe- ^^
But yeah, I agree that the majority seems to be quite friendly and understanding people.
Tried Sophia for the first time right now. Ended with wipe. Still got confused when she summoned the first demiurge for the second time. What knocked me off when I was fighting him? I didn't see anything...
First Demiurge can use a countering move called Vertical Kenoma or Horizontal Kenoma. Horizontal does a counter knockback if he's hit from the flanks and Vertical does the same if you hit him from the front or back while it's up. That's probably what did you in. What stinks is it works on AoEs as well so you need to be very careful.
That's interesting. Right now I tried once more and finally got rid of it. It seems Sophia would summon random Demiurges, and I did not meet with the first Demiurge this time. Although willing to challenge him again, I find it pains a lot to bear some damage with my current gears and 16 thousand HP so I'd better LV the gears first.
I've done Sophia ex a few times, but I joined a learning party to help a few friends. We wiped several times, but we progressed farther each time. During the last run, about half the party died, so I used the level three limit break (as AST). Unfortunately, the daughter spawned shortly after, but my lb was so bright that no one could find her, so we all died.
It was hilarious and they took it well at least.
I've been farming Ravana EX in the df recently. When Ravana does his clone rush mechanic and the party runs around the outside of the arena to avoid them, I usually expect at least one person to lag behind the group and get hit by every one of them. Well yesterday I actually got to see the opposite, a too eager off-tank that was so far ahead of the group that they ran face-first into every single charge. When I'm farming for hours, stuff like that just brightens my day.
Did Sohm Al today que'd as a Whm with my monk friend saw the tanks Hp was 10k which is fine, look at the Mch..5.4k hp? Oh boy here we go, Mch has an ilvl 42 belt and some 100 pieces doable but it's gonna be awhile. The run starts off with the tank spinning the mobs around and around like a Moogle-go-round I tell the tank "Please don't move the mobs around the monk needs positionals" He didn't get the hint till after first boss. We wiped once because the tank lost threat and Covered me but didn't get threat back so when it ended all 4 mobs beat me to death. Okay take 2.
We rez up, keep going and the tank isn't moving out of telegraphed AoEs it was so much healing that I had to do instead of helping out to DPS which as hard enough as it is as he'd pull 2 mobs then 15 seconds later grab 3 more with no CDs being popped + the poison that I had to dispel. We get to first boss and the plant eats the tank 3 times getting 6 stacks of damage up the poor mch got 1 hit by it and was like "omg! o.o" with 5.4k hp and 6 stacks it did 6k evenly so he died fast.
The rest of the run consisted of me having heart attacks because the tank wouldn't move out of AoEs until....wait for it final boss. He moved and dodged Chaos Blast from Tiamet everytime wtf!? Why couldn't you have done that the whole run! Was so annoying... All in all we only had 1 wipe and I got a Gaelikitten out of it so I guess it wasn't bad.
Ran some roulettes with the wife (SMN) and a friend (NIN) last night. I'm going on AST, so we're getting random tanks. Haukke for leveling for the third day in a row, and we get a pally whom I suspect is a returning player because she had several classes to the 50's. I checked because I was expecting the usual mediocre run, but was surprised to find we cleared the basement inside of 15 minutes. That tank really knew her stuff, and I made sure to tell her so before we left.
Amdapor Keep for 50's roulette, and we get another pally. I go Nocturnal Sect because I want to play with it, never seriously gave it a shot before the patch dropped. Thanks to this tank, I can safely say that I'm happily comfortable with Noct Sect's new place in my toolbox as a viable alternative to Diurnal Sect, and also got to see Covered for the first time. I would be surprised if the run took longer than 15 minutes because I was genuinely surprised when it was over, and I believe we were only three groups in when I just had to comment in /p "Love it when the tank knows what the crap he's doing," to which my friend responded, "^this^"
Later in the evening, went with some FC mates for a returning person's first run through Antitower, which also happened to be my first run for it. I'm not sure how much I contributed, considering we went with a second healer (my SMN gear sucks and I'd been having lag), but I kept giving everyone cards and shields when I could, even if most of the unbuffed Balance draws were passed to Selli--hey, gotta feed the DPS, right? ;)

I'm no BLM player, but this doesn't seem quite right. For reference, this was in aetherochemical research facility.
Should have tried to explain. If they decided "my money, my way" and continued to be a numpty, then you could kick them. You tried, they wouldn't listen, you let them know that their behaviour/attitude is not appreciated.
Edit: Realised I clicked on first page and not last. I just woke up, leave me alone.
Even if they chose to stick with their level 50 rotation, Enochian is still a 5% damage boost, which is always good (and Ley Lines is a BLM's best friend. No sane BLM would reject it unless they were saving it for the right moment). That BLM upsets me :(
I have a plea for my RF co-healers in Sophia EX, especially SCHs: I don't care if you stay in Cleric Stance the whole fight, you can be a DPS for all I care, I can take the healing, but please, PLEASE help me Raise if people start fallin off the platform.
I had a run yesterday where I was at less than 1K MP because of all the raising, bothering the Bard for Ballad, while my SCH co-healer was sitting at 12K MP casting Broil. He didn't raise one single time in that run.
I had a lvl 48 gladiator tank in Cutter's Cry without soul stone. I thought she liked the challenge... But no.
She does not flash a single time no matter how many times we tell her. She's just running around attacking all the mobs. At some point, we were all tanking. We all died at some point, but she had the highest mortality.
Oh and she did not have anything else leveled besides the gladiator. We gave her tips, she did not respond. We had to kick her before we made it to the first boss.
And that alone does not upset you? xD
I understand reaching 60 and being overwhelmed with suddenly having an entirely new rotation with a tight timer to upkeep and therefore failing to do it right all the time,
but from the looks of it, this player honestly believed the 2.0 rotation is better than the lvl 60 one and therefore didn't even try it. Or, judging by his stance on ley lines, probably just too lazy to execute it...
I had a miqo'te tank that constantly wiggling his ears at me throughout the entire dungeon, but he never took his helmet off so that I could see it. I was mildly disgruntled for an entire 25 minutes.
That player also never takes into account that faster spell-cast -> more spells-> more dps -_-
Right now I seen enough "new" blms that spam f3 till oom the b3 or transpose or b4x3 that if they just do their 50 rotation in a 60 dungeon... I will be happy enough as a mentor....
So a little while ago I was helping my boyfriend get his weekly drop from A9, I went on AST and got paired with a fellow AST. Everything was going pretty well, we were both using our AoE cards for the raid. I set up an AoE arrow and the MNK in the party got pretty snippy about it.
"Seriously? I need tp not an arrow" he said, I was pretty baffled about it since I've ran a9 on monk before and with both invigorate and purification I never really struggled with TP in that fight before.
Dunno if he and my co-healer were together since they pretty much threw me under the bus and they both proceeded to tell me how wrong I was when I asked how he had basically ran out of TP by the %50 mark
From this point on the other ast was giving him every single spire card they drew. whatever, we finish and I wait to see if the boyfriend wins his loot and the mnk is still going, insinuating that I didn't know that melee runs out of TP
I just left after telling him he had 2 TP refreshers. Am I wrong here Invigorate should be used when you're around 600 TP, right? And purification is pretty handy as well. :(
A monk doing their optimal dps rotation will run out of tp even when using Purification and Invigorate (not to mention most monks do not use Purification because they use Forbidden chakra. You can't use both). It's not as bad as Dragoon, but they still will eventually run out. Then when you toss out arrow, it actually makes them use abilities even faster than normal and they end up flooring tp very quickly. I stopped using arrow as much because of how fast it makes the melee and tanks run out of tp. You're better off using aoe spire or balance midfight.
Yeah, I've talked to monks about it in instances about their comfort with Arrow, and they shred TP apart on good days, so it's more harm than good extended fights.
Greased Lightning at max makes them burn TP fast with the skill speed boost, and an Arrow on an extended fight would wreck their ability to properly refresh it as their own skills just can't cope with them going even faster in their basic rotation.
Give Arrows to mages, though a Monk would love a Balance as much as any other DPS.
Not my experience:
A few days ago a friend said he was going to PoD as whm for exp and because it's been a while since he played the job.
After he enters the instance he sends a screenshot because he loaded into a full healer party, everyone seemed excited to try out that composition.
A few minutes later he sends another screenshot with everyone dead at the starting room because the first chest they opened was a mimic.
To he honest I can totally see where the mnk is coming from. A9 eats through so much tp.. there are no little breaks where you can't hit the boss or chances to lose GL stacks (unless you die >w>). Even bouncing between invigorates and purification.. by the end running on fumes xD
Two stories, both while leveling my Black Mage. Note that I run dungeons with friends for most of the time, but unfortunately one of my regular party members wasn't on. The others went as Astro and Monk:
#1, Stone Vigil. We got a lvl43 Pally. Without Shield Oath... Even after some prodding, with Shield Oath on auto-translate, the tank said that they hadn't doen the quest yet. He assured us it would be fine, but as you'd expect...
We managed to clear though, with either my Monk friend or me tanking :/
#2, Dzemael Darkhold. You'd think after the horror tank I'd had on Stone Vigil this would be better? Think again. Undergeared Dark Knight. Highest piece of gear on the left side was a lvl35 belt, and right side was all Weathered lvl1's. 2.8k hp, while my Astro friend (being a downscaled lvl60) had 2.6k hp. The tank was only using Grit, not using Darkside and spammed Unleash, which didn't help with my AoE's even with me popping Quelling Strikes every time is up. I'm still surprised we managed to clear ok, but it was not due the Dark Knight being good. There were some close calls, I can tell you that much.
Loaded into Sastasha HM for roulette, got paired with a sprout WAR, SCH and SMN. Even though there was no bonus I sort of expected a slower run than normal as sprouts tend to take their time more. WAR just pulls one group, fine whatever, I don't really care so I start DPSing. All of a sudden the SCH starts going at the tank saying things along the line of "omfg pull everything!!", the tank responded with "I'm not very familiar with this dungeon so I want to take things slowly". Apparently wanting to play within your limits was not acceptable for this healer and he immediately left :|
I got a healer from NN to join in progress with us, the WAR was rather upset about what happened but the party reassured her that it wasn't her fault and to ignore people like that. She continued to go at the same pace which we were all fine with, after we get the healer in the group we cleared it in about 20 mins, so much for the SCH's gotta go fast strat....
Was on ps4 chat with a few tank buddies and I was telling them what was happening and they were like "whatttttttt..... ._."
Healed through lag like a pro yesterday :p 1st time running Hakkuke HM - on the 2nd room someone started using the microwave downstairs which messes up my wireless, luckily my bf is at mine atm so I just looked at his screen, seemed it was only my view that was lagging not my actual actions as I could still heal and chuck a regen on as needed :) although they opened a door that was still locked on my screen so we had a good laugh at me on my bf's screen stuck against an invisible wall ^^;
In Great Gubal Library HM, I met a SCH who was my twin as SCH, gear-wise. Mostly Wiping Shitty gear, with the PotD weapon. Which was nice; I've healed that dungeon before as SCH at that gear level, and I know what the job is capable of in there.
So imagine my heartbreak to see this SCH whip out Selene, and insist on DPSing when the tank has pulled 6-8 mobs, and dropped to 30% HP. No Sacred Soil, no Eye for an Eye on these large pulls. And their idea of DPSing seemed to consist of spamming Broil. On bosses, I'm fairly certain that I, as BLM, ended up using Eye for an Eye and Virus more than they ever did.
I love DPSing as much as the next SCH, but if I want to go DPS-heavy, I get Eos out, and combine Rouse with Fey Illumination and Whispering Dawn. I ensure the tank is fine before I start casting my DoTs. I do not ignore it when a tank starts dropping to below half-HP, because I know that spamming Lustrate is not as much of a spike heal as some people seem to believe it is. And I'm not fooling myself into believing that Selene alone, without even Rouse, is enough to keep a tank alive in a pull as large as the ones this tank was doing.
I should've said something, but in the end, if letting the tank die in the middle of a boss fight, and having said tank pop Living Dead multiple times over the course of the run didn't bother them, I doubt anything a DPS could say would have made any difference. Also, it was a long day at work and I just wanted to finish my roulettes, eat, and go to bed. So I just kept quiet and did my level best to burn down the pulls as fast as possible as BLM.
After that, I decided to queue as a healer for the rest of my roulettes, because if I want a good healer in my parties, I have to heal.
Then Main Scenario roulette drops me, as AST, into Praetorium with a WHM co-healer. I can count the number of spells I saw them cast, with one hand. They were:
- Protect*
- Stoneskin II*
- Medica II*
- Cure
- Cure II
* denoting spells that were cast only once during the entire run.
"Just AoE, I can heal," I typed out, only to be ignored. I switched to Diurnal Sect, throwing out Asp. Helios and Asp. Benefic, which was enough to keep everyone alive, in hopes of showing that they had room to DPS a bit, rather than stand there doing nothing for long stretches of time, throwing out the occasional Cure II spell. Of course this did nothing to change their minds.
I seriously want to ask, what is the point of even paying the subscription for this game if you're just going to AFK your way through all of the content?
I was doing Xelphatol yesterday trying to cap quickly, but the run was not quick...
The Tank and the Ninja appeared to be IRL married, and the Ninja was gone 90% of the time because "baby aggro", and when she was able to pop back in, she'd die to nearly all of the mechanics, but not before spamming those annoying macros that some ninjas use to emulate Naruto.
A simple run that should have taken 20 minutes ended up taking 45 minutes.
Did level 50 roulette as a BLM today.
Got Wanderer's Palace Hard.
New Healer.
The other DPS was a Black Mage as well...
They were using Flare in their single target rotation. >,<;
I did try to say that flare was useful on groups, but not on single targets.... But they didn't reply.
Between packs I looked up their search info and saw every single class was 60, then I figured it wasn't worth the hassle to try and correct their rotation.
aoe arrow is fine if there are 2 or more casters and the healers are dps-ing... even brd/mch can benefit from arrow...
the melees and/or tanks can just click the buff off, it's not a big deal....
I queue for Neverreap, and it is my first time running it.
I say to the group, as I always do, when I am new at something, "This is my first time in here, please take a second to explain the mechanics if you don't mind."
one of the guys in the group decides he needs to be on super savage raider status and says "you should have looked everything up online before queing as a tank, all I heard was "please carry me". "
my response to this was "well, you do have a point." and I promptly left the dungeon. ate some food during 30 minute lockout and glanced over the boss mechanics. i wondered for about 5 seconds how long it took them to find another tank. then i moved on and joined another queue group, told them the same thing(that it was my first time in doing the dungeon), everyone was cool with it, and I tanked the dungeon with no major issues.
now I know that I need to be an expert on every single fight in the game before queuing for a random DF dungeon.
Arum Vale with a Ninja who never moved out of any mechanic (died almost immediately every boss fight), and a BLM who was out of MP 99% of the time.

No ones obligated to research a goddamn instance before they go in for the first time. If your party mates want to be little shits about you asking for mechanic explanations.........! I dont know im sorry... the morons should just realize that they are most likely making their run even longer than it would be had they explained stuff to you. Ya know... cause a wipes and other stuff.
Incredibly frustrated right now.
Doing some Sophia Ex because I would like to get some of the weapons, and of course the bird. Do a clear party in PF (on DRK): clear in one shot. Do another in raid finder, and end up with 3 new people. Wiped a couple times, but still cleared. Co-tank was new, and kept Shield Oath up the entire time so there were times when we were fighting for aggro, plus they tried provoking it off of me several times before the tank buster, resulting in them eating 2 in a row and dying. But it's whatever, we still clear.
Third run in raid finder: had to vote abandon. Idk, maybe I was experiencing latency, but every time I would get hit with a tank buster, I would pop my cooldowns, and still get one-shot. I had to have been lagging because I watched my Living Dead animation go off (since I had no more cooldowns), and the tank buster still killed me. Anyways, the SCH in the party started accusing me of not using my cooldowns when I was. Sorry if I'm having unexpected latency. :/ But I literally watched my cooldowns go off. And it's not my gear....my ilvl is 236, and my first clear I was 232 and didn't die once to a single tankbuster.
Just ugh...so frustrated.
You know you can select duty complete in raid finder and you won't get new people
That wasn't the issue at all. A lot of the new people were actually doing very well, and I usually don't mind the bonus runs. And when I told the new tank to watch their oaths after one wipe, they actually listened. The issue was the unexpected latency on my end, causing me frustration, and one of the healers in one run (who wasn't new because that run had no bonus) accusing me of not using cooldowns when I was smashing them each time, and then attacking me and my so-called poor gear when my gear wasn't any better than the other tank's.
