I think FFXIV should be more political actually

Also there's seemingly little to no resistance from Turali within Alexandria... except for Oblivion members who either die (Cahciua and maybe Geode?) or are minor characters (Nostalgia and Wayakkwe), so their main operative ends up being Shale. I guess Gulool Ja counts.

I think this is why that time bubble was for 30 years. Plenty of time to have an entire generation both die out of and another to grow up within Alexandria's regulator religion (because it absolutely was one even if they never called it that) but a short enough time that some people still recalled Tural quite clearly.

Any friction was decades ago to the Turali that were stuck under the dome.

DT as SO MANY super interesting and juicy political drama that could be great, but for some reason nothing ever happens. Very awkward after we've been through HW and SB where people have died and killed for less. I can only imagine the WoL staring, wide-eyed, waiting for the first person to stab the other, but nothing happens. Most stressful vacation of their lives LOL

I might buy that if Doma, Ala Mhigo, and places that were under Garlemald even longer didn't have more insurgents from the colonized groups. Yeah, time can wear down people (we saw that in Stormblood), but it can also make them more desperate.

There's also the Doylist aspect. It's possible they used the timeskip as a justification BECAUSE they wanted to center the Alexandrians.

To be clear I'm not blindly defending the localizers because they're definitely capable of making bad changes. Hien praising a sex trafficker in the Stormblood patches is one really bad case.

My guess is the fae were already kinda ambiguous (non-FFXIV comparison is gems technically being genderless but they let humans call them women) and the English version made that more obvious.

I think the major difference there is Alexandria was wholly benevolent, and even provided and cared for them, and no one forced regulators upon the Turali population.

We haven't actually seen them yet, but several Garlean occupied regions weren't severely oppressed and even *improved* after Garlemald marched in. It was entirely dependent on who was set as in charge there. (Werlit choosing to put Gaius back in power is an example.)

That's the Watsonian explanation. The Doylist one's probably that they were scared of making the Alexandrians unlikable.

I think part of that was the writers being unsure how sympathetic they wanted Gaius to be. And Werlyt making Gaius lead their rebellion is one of my many issues with how he's written in Stormblood onwards.

You aren't wrong about that (seriously why not add some more tension?) and I hate Gaius. The Werlyt story makes me extremely angry because I would've put a cap in the guy the instant I saw him carrying Alphinuad's unconscious body and then I have to sympathize with his nightmarish failures as a father. Fuck that guy.

But, he was consistently written to be an extremely righteous man that was a much softer leader than the other Legatus, even in ARR. Shoot, even in 1.0. I'm not shocked he was brought back to exemplify not all Garlean leaders are evil sadists like Zenos and Yotsuyu, but blegh. I can't love them all and the devs have ended that chapter so it is what it is.
