To many, there is no thrill in not getting a claim on an NM. It feels like three wasted hours during which we could have done something more productive. That's one of the reason people are personally adverse to HNMs making a return to XIV.
Hence the staggering response to the instance question in the Player's Poll last year that players would rather their content instanced.
There is plenty I would like to see come over though. Like Dynamis (fully instanced, not just a separate zone that one group makes exclusive to themselves for three hours), ZNMs, Salvage, Nyzule Isle, Einherjar, Assaults, Campaign, BC/IS/E/NMs.
I think what people are most worried about in the "like XI" discussion is the major drawbacks. The fruitless hours. Camping, traveling, farming. It all wouldn't have been so bad had there been some form of persistent personal progress.
I'm not saying there had to be a reward at the end of every event, but if XIV gets something like Dynamis, it'd be nice if each run gave a set amount of something like Company Seals that could go toward eventually paying for high-priced items.
In XI, a large group of people put in a lot of hours to get one person a reward. The understanding being that everyone would stick around till everyone got what they were after. But that wasn't always the case.
An example being the fact that I never got an Optical Hat. I put in the effort to get my own Eye Cluster. I organized and participated in many runs. However I always believed in doing things fair and would always /random for pop order. I alwaus drew the short straw. By the time my turn would come up, There'd be too few people remaining to win because people would get their drop then suddenly have plans. Plenty of groups tried anyway. But like many things in XI winning was a matter of having enough bodies.
No one wants things just handed to them for showing up (well, not everyone. There are those out there who look up cheat codes before they load up a game). People just want things to be sensible.
