Lol yeah sniperrifle I looked at it later and saw that it didn't make sense. Haha. So yeah you bring some more more excellent points. Although I'm not sure how the scenario where no one has ever quit a game over voice acting is a reason to favor adding it.
Actually, funny points you made about people in general, and true, and I think actually the reason some people are resistant to it is at this point the fixing of FFXIV has become a community concern, like we're all citizens of a city that has F'ed up big time and we're voting for legislation in our city-Congress. Some moves for a motion to add voice acting. People get worried because there's a sense of insecurity about this game's management. People like Yoshi-P, the leader, but the team hasn't proven that they've shaken their foundations of incompetence. Deep down every last white knight is terrified that 2.0 will blow up in the faces of the world, and that SE will shut the game down, depriving them of their beloved world. I'm not a white knight but that's the way I feel too, because I genuinely like the game and well, its potential at least. Voice acting is a huge undertaking and commitment, and I think people are worried because you can't trust a team that is barely if even competent with such a huge investment. So some are basically afraid that by adding a huge investment to the game that isn't a direct fix to the brokenness of the game (even though practically there is little management burden added by it) SE will blow it, 2.0 will fail, and the game will be forever doomed.
I understand that emotion, but I think the dev team is up to the task. I think Yoshi-P feels a great deal of anxiety now because 2.0 is supposed to be ready for testing in a little more than 5 months and the picture hasn't come together. If I was him my hair would be turning grey. But to remedy that I think the team needs a huge vote of confidence, because they are the most talented people in the world at what they do, and they had been working under poor leadership for so many years that the implosion of 2.0 undeservedly affected their morale. SE needs to make this huge of an investment in FFXIV and they need to do the impossible, which is increase the budget enough and pull out all the stops. And make it happen. Without it I'm just back to worrying that they're just going to "coast on what they have" right into another failure, just like the initial alpha/beta/launch of FFXIV, full of delusion.
