Pre-3.0 I mained Warrior...now I main Warrior and Ninja.
Pre-3.0: Around the same time I was playing, a couple of IRL friends picked the game up as well. I basically let them pick what classes they wanted so I could fill in the gaps between them as far as role goes - one ended up picking up Monk, the other Ninja, so I decided to main a tank class. I chose Warrior since it seemed the more interesting and powerful of the two, so it was my first 50 and still my favorite.
Post-3.0: One friend dropped the game shortly after 3.0's release, and the one that stayed swapped from a Ninja main to a Dark Knight main - so I no longer felt like I had to stay away from the class to avoid stepping on her toes. It just so happens that Ninja became my favorite DPS class to play - I absolutely love the mudra system, fast pace, and high damage and support potential. So now I swap between Warrior and Ninja depending on what role I want to play at the time.

Monk since the beginning!
Actually, I was going to go for a tank as I was a career tank before, but I wanted a change. With that settled, I was originally gunning for dragoon since I RP'd a polearm-using ranger in other games, but I also traditionally like martial arts. Between trying lancer and pugilist, I ended up with pugilist for the strangest of reasons that aren't class related: Thanalan. Thanalan is a desert, but it still has a vibrant design to it.
As far as gameplay: I like punching and kicking things, I like having a shorter GCD thanks to greased lightning since I hate the default 2.5 second GCD, and with current balance hitting like a truck is a nice perk. Though I leveled various jobs and most are good fun, monk is still my true love. I also keep a tank class to be my main secondary job.

Archer/BARD (since the beginning)
I selected this job because it reflects my artistic side. Bards tell stories and sing songs, I draw pictures while my voice resonates within them. Furthermore, when the Bard fights, their focus is sharp on taking down their enemies with arrows; to me, I see that as a way of always aiming for my goals and never miss them. Last, but not least, I'm well known as the supporter-just like the Bard is as a DPS.

DRK and WHM, WHM because I love healing classes and I feel that it is the perfect healing class and DRK because the skills are different from the other tank classes and I think it has the perfect balance between damage reduction and DPS.
-
WHM because I can decide whether someone gets back up again and that it doesn't make me bored while playing as it demands my attention.
MNK also because like WHM, it forces me to sustain being focused while not tunnel-visioning since it requires me to be alert to my surroundings with positioning.
At the moment, I am going to test out how I perform with SMN.
-
DRK- why? Because Q's are short but I wish they'd get a pvp burst damage buff.
-
White mage because I love healing and the style of healing WHM has most closely fits my preferred playstyle. I love staying in the back and supporting my group. Its challenging, always different even with the same content, and a lot more fun than anything else I can do in pve.

Machinist now since I have always been the technology themed type player.
If the new DPS in 4.0 is interestign enough, either Red Mage or Samurai as hinted in the 2015 anniversary event, I may switch to that but if not then I'll stick to Machinist until a Melee DPS Job I find interesting is introduced. Still hoping one day FF14 may get a Gunblade Job in the future once we get into Garlemald.

Technically my class/job isn't in the game yet so everything until then is just me putting up with what we've got.
2.X it was BLM just cause I liked being able to actually see my damage and feel like I really had an impact. Mmmm Flare... R.I.P. :'(
3.X it's been Summoner for several reasons. Prime reason is prolly cause I lover their AF gear the most. It's Awesome. Other than that though would prolly be their new rotation is alot more interesting than the borefest of 2.X (saying something coming from 2.X BLM ;P) plus pain/deathflare....... that's prolly it lol. SMN still has alot of things I don't like about it.
Can't wait till they finally put in RDM. Just hope they don't screw it up. Last 3 classes were such a disappointment. So uninspired in their design. Waste of potential they were.

both RDM and SAM have potential to be a Tank or DPS but only one will be a Tank and one will be a DPS.
