Ruin has a cast time too. Arcanist's instant cast is Ruin II, but this one can't be crossclassed.
Yeah in my case with that whm it was ruin1, not ruin2, thanks Flüster! I mean, I can get to understand crossing ruin1, but then I'd expect stones plus cleric stance to make things even worth, no? Stone comes with a nifty gravity too :x since she was running around the mobs to face-aggro >_> Also on later floors wouldn't stone2 outdamage ruin1? Not sure right now. She didn't do anything with logic, like having her mnk (I will assume the mnk was a relative of hers) standing for 30 sec and waiting out the pacification trap when she could just esuna it (she wasnt hit by that trap)... or open chests while the room was full of aggroed monsters (aggroed by her), dying cause she opens a trap chest when already hurt with a landmine while having the army of toads pummeling her etc etc I could post here forever just with that whm... and yes, we had mimics too, and no purity left cause she was using them randomly.
Anyways, that was my input on weird players lol :3
Ruin has less potency it should never be cross classed
Ah ok, thanks. I thought it worked kind of like cure/physiks (or I could just stop being lazy and look up the tooltips). Still don't get why people would use physiks on whm instead of cure or the other way around but meh, at least those spells have the same healing potency, but whatever floats their boat I guess.
I decided to take the wife and I through the Sunken Temple of Qarn. We need the last two entries in our Adder hunting log from there.
The party lineup was:
WAR (me)
MNK (wife)
SCH
BRD/Archer (I didn't check)
The dungeon was going pretty smooth. No wipes, the SCH was constantly DPSing between heals, and the DPS were killing things quickly. I did notice that the bow user was a very eager to say the least for us to kill things. I would Tomohawk a mob and before I could gather them up and Overpower them, the bow user spammed AOEs, making my job a little harder to keep hate at first.
After the fight with the Temple Guardian, the bow user seemed to have disconnected. After killing a set of mobs, I told my wife that we can three man this, since our levels and iLevels are synced (at the time our levels and iLevels were 52 WAR 100 iLevel and 51 MNK 90 iLevel unsynced). I dropped Deliverance and we proceeded to three man this all the through.
The final boss fight was entertaining. I helped my wife do the mechanics of the fights since the SCH was on top of his/her A-Game (dodging AOEs, DPSing, and healing). I felt safe enough that I could move the boss around and do the mechanics without the fear of a wipe.

Random person in my POTD group. Just...gross.
PoTD Gilgamesh
The Tank taught his DPS friend how to use an emote that will spam all the users in the party with constant dings and rings. Not only did it fill a page of rotating text forever, the annoying sounds lasted about 30 seconds.
Then he kept on doing it
And doing it
And doing it
It literally felt like I was in a party of 4 year olds
Ruin has a potency of 80, vs. Stone/Malefic's 150. I'm assuming it's due to the fact that Arcanist has a pet doing some of the damage and DoTs to maintain, and so Ruin is just a low MP-cost filler that does a little bit of damage. I *suppose* it could be helpful for managing MP on account of it's very low cost, but I really don't know.
As to cross-classing physick or cure, it's possibly just to animation preference; though cure should always be used on WHM past level 32, because physick doesn't proc freecure.
Yeah that is actually disgusting. There's a thread somewhere here about macros and ppl being offended by them, if it was possible. Well yes, regardless if it's an automated macro or not, this stuff is offensive and disgusting. Had in WC a goon who macroed something similar gross, but this time sexual with his Battle Litany. About 7-8 lines singing a song about body fluids mixing together and making gravy, just to keep it short here. The whole "song" was filthy, not funny or even close, and it popped every bloody time he activated Battle Litany. I have yet to report it, I copied the whole "song" for later, and that was last tuesday I believe.
Been a while since I've posted here. o.o But, it's patch day maintenance day and I've been lurking since the servers were taken down so.... let's share some fun stories!
Last Saturday: queued up for CT (usually save it for Sunday night, but considering I had plans, did it Saturday night instead). LotA was pretty uneventful, except the DPS was ridiculously slow the entire run, and I actually got to see Bacon Floor on the last boss (I've only been playing for about a year, so I wasn't around when LotA was the current 24-man). Oh, and the Magic Pot boss actually made it to Alliance C. I was surprised since I usually expect it to be dead before C becomes invisible. ST was good: cleared quickly, and with no issues.
Come WoD. The shenanigans begin. I queued in with 3 friends--two healing, one on NIN, and me on BRD (proceed to cry as I continuously kept trying to do my lvl 60 skills that I obviously don't have--WTB Iron Jaws pls). The tank was a PLD, and the other DPS were 2 NIN and I think BLM? Anyways--first boss....wipe 4 times. Tanks fighting for aggro--spinning the boss and lasering like half the raid, DPS ignoring hourglasses, people getting Doom and not going to the platform. I died several times because laser + bard = bad. Would get raised and start DPSing again/playing Mage's for my healers since all the raising, all the time. Anyways, one of my healer friends says to please save lb3 for healer lb considering the amount of dying that was happening. One NIN then proceeds to use it right as it pops. Wipe occurs literally 30 seconds after that.
Friend and that NIN start arguing, and vote kicks continue to pop and be rejected. It became very obvious that there were multiple trolls in that run, just wanting to make things difficult. Portal mini-boss: portals--ALL PORTALS--ignored. Adds running amok everywhere. Tanks not grabbing them (BRD tank ftw), and people still dying. Dragon boss--LITERALLY EVERYONE EXCEPT MYSELF AND MY FRIENDS IGNORED THE HEADS. LITERALLY. I CAN ONLY WIDE VOLLEY SO MUCH PEOPLE. Vote abandons start. Half the raid leaves. We stay, refill, and clear with minimal issues on Cerberus and no wipe on Cloud of Darkness. Our new tank was very meh (wanted to MT but refused to use Grit, and was only in Ironworks, so ofc all the hate being ripped, all the time--BRD tanked Cerberus until he killed me essentially), and proceeded to bitch at everyone about how they will "DPS if they want to" while MTing. Surprised we didn't wipe on CoD since people kept trolling with the waymarkers and just being stupid.
Needless to say, I don't wanna do WoD any time soon, but at least I finally got my last aether oil, and my Hyperconductive Nothung. :>
Turn 9...
We never last more than 3 minutes.
Motherf*cking meteors.
Experienced a funny glitch in LCoA a while back. I was healing on WHM when I noticed that though I could heal the SMN, I couldn't see them anywhere. I went to the gates and right back up the ramp but still couldn't find them, yet according to the map, they were nearby. What...?
I zoomed out the camera and looked around.
"Wait... is that...?"
"?!"
Somehow they'd managed to get stuck while trying to jump down, and couldn't move at all. The only option they had was Return... which was on CD because they'd used it just before the instance. And so the next five minutes passed pretty much like this.
Has anyone else found PoTD a little... Odd today? They seem to have made the floors smaller and it seems easier... Until a random huge mob descends on you and you wipe :| happens to me twice in a row now, gotta go have a calm down lol. Lost one of those new special chests too :'(
Got accused of being in cleric stance in A9. When I wasn't. At all. I saw a scholar and was prepared for solohealing this. Apparently as I dced due to the game booting me they complained about having to heal anyone but the main tank.
I repeat. I went in blind.
Then the game kept booting me randomly for no reason at all. Several times in a row. Got dismissed. Am vaguely upset if I weren't completely blinded by the intense Yellow in there.
That doesn't help on top of the breakdown I had earlier... I guess I have my poncho to keep my company but... Hhhhhhh.
So..I spent most of the day crafting and gathering and am only now starting to unlock battle content.
Still, it has only been a few hours since PATCH RELEASE.
Just zoned into Gubal Hard and as the cutscene ended, us DPS were there alone, chat revealed tank had left right upon entering with a "omg 3 newbs" and without tank, the healer followed suit.
I just...what? WHAT. It is STILL Patch Day! This has to be a friggin' joke..
Just tried my first run of A11 as a PLD. Our SCH kept dying, and the SMN tells them to go watch a guide and stop wasting our time, and successfully vote-abandons the instance (we were making good progress too). It's the first day of the patch; are there even any guides to watch? What's wrong with explaining the mechanic? O.o
People want everybody to know all even before it is out . Wish there was some form of goal for people like that and stuck in there for a few days. I have yet to try any but i dread such moment
Yeah it seems a little... haphazard now tbh. I was excited about the new chests but the best thing I got was some demimateria, apparently one of the new hairstyles is a drop from them too :/ after 3 attempts I finally finished off floors 41-50... on weapon 30 and armour 27 >.<'
So, PLD friend wanted to run Gubal HM but didn't meet the itemlevel requirement, so we did 60 roulette with a fellow AST and myself on BLM, and got Hullbreaker HM with a SMN.
No egi out, at some poined they pulled out Ifrit.
Barely used any dots, never used Tri Disaster, never used Bane.
Couldn't manage Aetherflow stacks for the sake of his life.
And... cast Deathflare right upon entering Dreadwyrm Trance O___O
On top of this, he screwed up pretty much every mechanic - I was so thankful when our AST decided to leave him on the floor when he died to the last boss when it was at about 40%. The rest of the fight didn't take any longer than the previous part.
After this, Gubal HM! Everyone but myself was a firsttimer, I announced that I'm gonna let the party run blindly, and the random NIN was like "Good, it's day 1, it's supposed to be run blindy". The party was relaxed, we were joking around, and had a lot of fun discovering details of this dungeon, such as the notes you can read there (like in NM) or the glowing books. Our AST really loves books and I think she felt like in paradise :D Previously to every boss, someone said something along the lines of "let's wipe", then we laughed about not wiping on bosses #1 and #2 - and kinda about wiping twice on boss #3, too.
These were enjoyable 40 minutes, and the NIN definitely deserved his 3 comms - I just wish every run could be this fun and relaxed, but instead I read things like:
:(
Every times i run the vault and Ser Grinnaux transform and say "I have the power", i shout "HE MAN!"
I did the same with Tales of Xillia, "by the power of Maxwell!" ... "greyskull" :P
On topic ish - I ran Satsasha unsynced as WHM last night, killed everything apart from the bosses with Aero :P very easy way to tick off a Wondrous Tails task!
I'm doing the other ones properly through DF though for the possibility of a "second chance" etc - glad there seems to be a decent variation on what things you need to run too. Mine had 2x PVP, 2x Coils, 3 that could be done via the roulettes and some EX primals.
Shor Khai
2 Black Mages. I thought, "Yes! We're gonna breeze through this!"
Yeah...not really
Took forever to take down "Pegasus" boss. And at the end of the dungeon run, we only had one platform left.
I haven't seen dps this poor in ages. I never run out of manna healing in this dungeon. At the end, I was pulling every trick out of the book just to squeeze every ounce of usable manna I could.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with going into a fight, even a9-12 blind. No one should be berated for wanting to learn as they go.
ToD floor 45 join party in progress. set up: 2 pld 1x me , 2 nin. I'm on sword oath Pld constantly on 10-25% HP keeps pulling and mobs spawn behind us. he marks I follow. I take hate constantly saving him being we have no healer, without a warning I get kicked. I was wow really?
I wish that were the case ;)
Actually, a while later I got the same DPS again (and another, but also new in there, healer) with a tank who had run it before, it everything went (mostly) well :)
Tank wasn't interested in telling us mechanics (which I actually apprechiated, since the fun of playing on patch day is to figure out things on my own, although I wouldn't have been mad or anything if he did give an explanation either!), but if you played any content before, (CT, A3, looking at you :P) it was fairly easy to figure out. Which made the reaction of the previous tank even less understandable, because none of the mechanics were hard to deal with, which could have at least explained why someone wouldn't want to deal with newbies on top of that.
Only wipe we had was at the final boss when the tank didn't realize we all got a little cutscene there upon reaching the boss room, so by the time it finished playing/skipping it manually, even with sprint, both healer and me didn't make it into the boss room before it closed off..xD
That's the problem right there. There aren't even proper guides out yet, and even if they were, are we not even allowed to go in blind on day 1 anymore?
That's actually what's fun about patch day, that no one has any proper idea yet what things do.
There is a time and place for everything, and I also dislike inconveniencing others (especially as the healer, which is central to the party's survival), but it's new content...at least wait a few days after patch before telling people to watch stuff instead of playing it themselves *sigh*
Got Hullbreaker normal from Mentor roulette. Its a very smooth run until the last boss. The blm keps jumping from one platform to the next and kept taking damage. I had to chase her down to heal her and told her to please try to be in the same island as us unless she has the mark. Anyways she didn't listen and we wiped.
We all go back the the outside of the last boss and the tank was still laying there.... Tanking the floor. We figured he may lagged but after 5 mins or so, he was asked "bruh did you have stroke?" no response. He was then asked "bruh you still alive there?"
Finally he talks and says we should had go in there and raise him and that'll it'll be fine. We tell him we'll end up pulling since he's all the way on the farthest island. We go back and forth about how he should just respawn because we don't want to pull boss and he'll have weakness debuff. After arguing with us for like 5 minutes about ut, both DPS kicked him out.
Did Gubal Library Hard for the first time and I really rather likes it, what with its interesting bosses and fantastic music. I particularly like the last boss who is clearly the owl from Ocarina of Time, crossing the chasm of years and videogame franchises to visit terrible beaked vengeance upon us for making him fly all over Hyrule to tell us how to get into desert temples and such.
I once did Aurum Vale on AST before knowing what I was doing 3mpbs net on a PS3 makes out for a nightmare.
I'll never forget what I was told by another player before being kicked from the dungeon I was struggling to heal due to poor net and after wiping a few times I started getting insulted by one of the dos "Could you not F@!$ every turn" and then "They should uninstall the game and quit improving the overall quality" they were more but I'll never forget that name Meliah Rage but I greatly improved and didn't let their toxic attitude get in the way of me enjoying something I work dam hard for and only 2 days off to play.
New to Steps of Faith, run with PUG. There's three of us new leafs in there. I warn that I'm new. Other newbie does too. No response from the team. I figure it must be straightforward then.
....Nope. One guy keeps ranting about some tower or something. We fail. Start again, one guy asks if we all know what to do. We repeat that we're new. He rambles off a bunch of jargon, something about a snare ("It's an orange and black thing") and a tower. Tells us to get on canons.
We do what we think he means but wipe again. This time though I actually figured out what we were meant to do on my own and what the hell these snare things are. However he wants to abandon. Find new PUG group, everything goes smooth. Sucks for the quitter.
Cleared Xelphatol in less than 20 minutes with randoms :O
One of my cat tails was A2. I haven't done since way back when I needed the precision items. Like five people were new. But it was okay. Those bombs aren't as scary as I remembered. I remember wiping if the guy in the armor messed up slightly. But we just shrugged it off.
Void Ark.
Alliance A's dps were all bards. And those weren't the *only* bards.
Let's just say that I've never heard so many bardsongs in the downtime between bosses ever. I really wish I could commend players on other alliances :)
Void Ark... Got a WAR whose first words were "Forgot this completely. Carry me." She was being dead serious. She outright refused to tank, and this was fine in areas where we only needed one MT... but the Morbol segment and the last boss she refused to tank. Heck on the last boss, after being told she would need to tank an add, she backed out of the arena before it sealed off. To the Monk, if you're reading this, you deserved every comm there. You put up with what that WAR did and stepped up to take the aggro immediately. You were fantastic.
The catch was everything was going smoothly... and quickly. each time I would get the window open, combat would be in progress and i'd have to close it so I could participate and not get sidetracked.
EDIT: In truth, I think it's possible to leave my target on one enemy and be able to fight with the window open and then initiate the kick after. At the time, I didn't think of that. Really wish I had because that would've made things a lot better for the party.
