You should've said 'Mitigation'
:p
Well one more week until DSU. Though I can see the either the first part of the middle of it being hard intensively the last phase will probably have little outgoing damage like there is in TEA when prime and perfect did patheticly little damage outside of prime enrage.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen word that the team responsible for designing Ultimate is also responsible for housing? Considering the state of 6.1 so far, that just makes me wonder how borked DSU will be.
Hopefully it won't be, but even in the event that DSU ends up being a great time for healers, where we're fully engaged at all times and we finish reveling in the afterglow of joy, it wouldn't excuse the fact that the engagement is sorely lacking for the rest of the game.
First thing people should try (and it will happen sooner or later) is try it without healers.
And the healer state won't change because of ultimate. The "rotation" will be the same. The healing requirement will VERY likely to be the same as well...
And even if is not, well, congratulations, you have ONE duty in the entire game that requires a bit more...
I’ve never heard that. There’s only like 1 or 2 developers that can actually design Ultimate fights, and I don’t think they have anything to do with the Housing portion of this game. They’re battle content designers. I know one said that they weren’t going to design any more, but I can’t remember which ultimate fight he did.
Let's skip historical revisionism here.
Both single and multi-step ("diminishing returns") falloff damage have affected on physical attacks at some point. Tenka Goken, for instance, had 3-step fall-off originally, iirc, while Quietus originally had 1-step.
That falloff is also irrelevant; all that matters is the relative strength of the skill in an average/maximum pull. Rarely, if ever, has the damage of a skill's lowest falloff step been increased (outside of broad potency inflation across a whole kit to make up for the removal of %damage traits) just because earlier steps were removed.
It is also highly unlikely that dungeon gating was done JUST to nerf Black Mages and White Mages.
Yes, it's disappointing that supports' maximum offensive throughput has decreased over time (and I'd agree if you were to say that trend should be reversed), but that (quoted above) is, at best, quite the conflation.
My concern is less with it being borked and more with them tuning down the difficulty given that has been the trend of EW. After all, while Yoshida said it would be closer to UCoB, he never specified original UCoB or current UCoB.
With that said, I've never heard the Ultimate devs are also involved with housing. Last they mentioned only 2-4 people on the entire dev team can even develop one and they only have eight people capable of testing it. That may have changed by now considering Yoshida did say he wanted to expand their testing team after they were forced to delay DSR.
