I did say playable races. I am aware of the pixies.. but they are irrelevant to the matter at hand, again, they're not a playable race so we don't decide anything in the character creator about them. Nor does their existence change that all the playable races are quite clearly and evidently defined as binary in all the materials we've seen.

It doesn't really matter, is the point. The reason the world and the characters in the game are shown as predominantly binary has nothing to do with the integrity of world building, and has a lot more to do with public reception of a product.

Fair. Anyhow, that aside I will also agree with you that ultimately my only real objection is from a technical standpoint.. pretty much as everyone has concluded in the course of this thread. That it would be an exceptional amount of work for very little gain. Well, technical and that I'd really really prefer they spend time and resources on other things.

If it didn't require a lot of technical reworking I would love for this to be an option. I have seen many players who (for example) will play a female Au Ra but use the male model due to their height/size (and vice versa). I myself have a male Viera character but am using the female model (for hopefully obvious reasons), so it would be nice to have the ability to use different pronouns.

Okay that was way too easy. Maybe you’re thinking, “Well what about chromosomes? There are only two types of s*x chromosome arrangements: XX or XY! If we define sex using chromosomes, isn’t it binary?” And the answer is: no. XX and XY are not the only s*x chromosome arrangements humans can have: there’s also X, XXX, XXXX, XXXXX, XXY, XXXY, XXXXY, XXYY, or XYY If we’re defining s*x on the basis of s*x chromosome arrangements, two categories isn’t enough. S*x isn’t binary.
BUT WAIT, maybe you’re thinking or saying aloud like a weirdo. “Isn’t Y the male chromosome and X the female chromosome? Isn’t that a binary?” And oh, my poor misguided imaginary friend, the answer is again no. Obviously the most common “male” s*x chromosome arrangement is XY, which means X isn’t uniquely a “female chromosome.” But there’s also the added fact that possessing a Y chromosome doesn’t always mean an individual develops traits we traditionally consider male, like testes and a p***s. The gene that primarily controls development of these traits (or genes that control this gene), sry, can sometimes be non-functional or jump off the chromosome entirely (this is an oversimplification of course but you get the gist). In these cases the individual usually develops traditionally “female” traits, like ovaries and a v*gina, or some combination of male and female traits. S*x isn’t binary."

This would be a good addition if not for the issues it would cause in being implemented. Not the least of which is the rerecording of voiced lines to represent agendered people. Which would then cause them to basically have to redo most of ARR and some parts of HW as well due to no longer having access to the talent pool that voiced the base game. Not to mention what happened to Yugiri's second VA, may she rest in peace. If SE ever makes another FF14 MMO I'd love to see this as an option however.

That's alot of words from a few, and one very controversial figure about what amounts to making alot out of nothing. The overwhelming majority, and I mean overwhelming, of humans are either male or female. The intersex designation you keep using to defend your position is an extremely, extremely rare medical issue that is almost always corrected at birth. A outlier/medical condition does not a rule make.

Anyways, the point is moot because s*x isn't equal to gender - so regardless of whether the consensus from the majority is that s*x is binary (which it isn't*), gender isn't and has never been, and it makes no sense to equate the two.

*there are roughly the same amount of inters*x people as there are redheads, does this mean redheads are just brown-haired people with something that needs to be "fixed"? No, because there is a specific gene that codes for redheads.

Doing some quick Google searches, this is incorrect. Intersex individuals with secondary characteristics are 0.02-0.05% and usually corrected at birth. Red haired humans are roughly 2% of the population. Now, I'll extend an olive branch. If you're an adult, choose to do with your body what you wish. However, there no need to push for it in a peice of media that has little to do with that.

Inters*x does not only include ambiguous genitalia, although your number is correct on that.

Inters*x is a large umbrella that includes those who have X, XXX, etc chromosomes, genitalia of females but chromosomes of males, etc etc.
