If it's so pointless, then disabling it when you don't feel like helping shouldn't be a problem at all.
Unless what you really want is to sit and chat with other mentors in Novice Network?

I'm selfish? Why? Because I'm a mentor? Or because I don't want to disable the status for one or two instances when I run with friends? I didn't realize mentoring was a full time job without breaks.
You can call me selfish if you want to. It won't fix or solve anything in regards to the discussion. So if petty little remarks like that is the direction of this conversation then I'm not going to speak to you any further.
Have a good day miss, and I wish you the best in trying to change the system. o7
It all boils down to people simply wanting that crown next to their names.
The devs said the crown was there to notify players (especially new players) that they're Mentors: people willing to help.
It's not a full-time job, but you are choosing not to turn off the status even when you don't want to help. That's like... okay, here's an example. Take a store like Best Buy or Target where the employees have an actual uniform. What you're doing would be like someone showing up to their job on their day off with their uniform and nametag on, and then telling customers that ask them for help that they aren't on the clock and are really just there so they can get back into the break room to chat with their co-workers. It's misleading at best, and you really can't blame people that expect you to help when you have that "uniform" on.
If you really just want to chat, make a linkshell?
At least you get paid to help at Target. Besides I'm sure if someone asked for help she would, she just shouldn't be expected to drop everything to instantly respond. And it's not like the mentor crown is a uniform with obligations. Just a symbol that shows a character's relative experience.
