And so they ask you, and its below where it should be. What do you do?

It's getting there and would be a step in the right direction. Much better than a target dummy only parser. There could be an opt in parser for raid groups etc as it helps to be able to see the whole picture but then you'd be the one deciding to share and be part of the raid group. Again this becomes more complicated and require more dev resources, so my hopes are lower to get such a robust feature.
My two concerns are being able to measure my own performance in all situations and being able to collaborate as a raid team on progression content. I couldn't care less what other random people are doing in WoD or 4 man dungeons as there are no meaningful dps checks there (and with echo really none for ex primals as well).
Tell me, have you actually tried to help someone when they are playing really, really poorly? Like killing the party with mechanics horribly? When they insist they are doing fine? They will tell you to gtfo. Having numbers to bash them over the head with will help, because otherwise they don't listen at all, and the only recourse is to vote kick them in hopes of getting someone who will stop failing party wipe mechanics (perhaps by dying right at the start, can't get expectations too high!). Figuring out basic job rotation to deal damage is something you do before you queue up or join PF. Learning the fight mechanics is something you do before you queue up or join PF.
It's the players who need help the most that are in their little bubble of 'im doing fine stop telling me how to play' that need that bubble popped when they choose to step into a raid/trial encounter.
Also, as an aisde, it's that "raiding player-base like Ellatrix" that provides the guide vids to fully explain and get YOU through a fight, and also that figures out optimal damage rotation and constantly provides useful help for those who ask on forums.
You've raided outdated content which you were over-geared for before*.
I assume T1-5 is what you're talking about since you haven't completed SCOB. It's going to appear as though most gear is suitable to the content you're pushing because you're over-geared for it and have echo. You haven't experienced not being able to hit a DPS check because echo and outdated content make it possible to overcome poor play.
Try raiding relevant content when it comes out then your whole mindset would change in an instant.
That's reality though. You don't need to be perfect to progress, not as it pertains to personal DPS at any rate. So the argument that parsing should be mandatory for dps(and let's be honest, it isn't mandatory to parse in order to be great as a DD), is already flawed because it's not necessary.
If it's completely arbitrary, it's certainly not necessary, and should never become mandatory.
The point being made is "It should be completely optional, only available outside of encounters, and a completely solo affair".
You can't complain about that. You get what you want, and only people who wish to be parsed will be parsed.
You all may not be self aware, but it appears this game's director knows exactly the kind of people some of you are. Which is why the only possibility he left open was what has been outlined already, a personal parsing dummy.
After all, if what you're REALLY concerned about is being excellent, you have absolutely no need to parse others.
But again, let's be honest, that's not what you want it for.
You'd honestly think no one cleared anything prior to illegal parsers being used, but they did. They most certainly did.
Having damage parsed (perhaps by someone else) is mandatory to be a top dps - because if you don't, you have no way of telling how good you're doing. There are zero top tier dps who have not benefited from a parser. Also no, parsers have been available from pretty much game launch, and most certainly before groups were clearing T4, which had the first real dps check.
Yoshi-P does know his audience, and he knows there are plenty of crybabies who would be pretty upset when they find out that they are, in fact, bad at their job and would be getting kicked for now obviously holding a group back. And instead of getting better, they would just quit the game and go play something more friendly, like Farmville. Though I think the devs were surprised to learn how bad some players are, given how hard they had to nerf SCoB.
You're looking at it in the wrong way, though. You're making a blanket statement about all players that want parsers, saying that it only breeds negativity and elitist attitudes. The same thing could be said the other way around- that all players who don't want it are okay with mediocrity, and don't care about understanding the job they play at any length.
Neither is true. Not every player wants to abuse a parser, not every player who dislikes them is bad at the game, or lacks interest in what they do. It's unfair to make that statement no matter which side of the argument you're on. What's most important to realize, is that this is a very team/party based game right now, and one player can (and will) be liable for entire wipes or missing of checks. Forcing your ideals of fun, and conversely, forcing your ideas of effectiveness on a player isn't okay. If you just want to have fun, the party-finder has options for that, for a reason. But in the same right, there is serious content, and disregarding players who want to take the game seriously is selfish. Nobody's trying to take your fun away from you. Not having a parser only caters to your ego/lack thereof. It doesn't benefit anything but a preference. Having a parser actually HELPS the players who want it, provided it's only on striking dummies.
This quote alone makes the case against party-wide parsers. We know good and well people like you will litter the elitist forums with the parses of players you and your kind deem "subpar" (You guys did it in FFXI. What makes you think you won't do any different here?).
Dev team also said they would never let you repair gear when not on a crafter job. Dev team also said they would never let you repair gear when not as the crafter job used to repair that gear. Well... We can now do both of those things.
I don't think people should be shamed for not doing the absolute best dps, but when you have a MNK in Shiva EX who is doing 100~ dps, you have a serious problem. Maybe other people are happy to carry, but I don't think people should win stuff when they aren't contributing. Well, assuming you're even able to carry that hard. Wouldn't it be easier to drop the guy who is doing less dps than a healer? Or you really want to do a full abandon every single time you get a bad dps? (More than likely you will get multiple bad dps, though.)
