no matter what happens they will still reset it to fit thier needs there is no other way to explan it. I do like your finders mark idea and would agree whole heartedly on it but still all in all they will just reset it and screw other people and if the finders mark is determined on who tagged it first we are still at square one

The problem is 3-5 minutes is way more than enough time for that zerg to show up. And if the mob is a B rank, it's easily soloable as it is.

I tried that the first time I found Naul. I did the supposed right thing, shouted for an invite, got into a full party. The horde appeared, no one pulled early. My party apparently didn't throw enough enmity around because I didn't get weekly credit. 2 weeks later and I've not seen Naul since. I'll be solo'ing it if there's ever a next time. Just to reiterate, shouting will never attract ~20 people.

Yea except SE isn't going to go down this road, because every time you ban a tank for an existing mechanic you designed, you also drop your profit line by a monthly sub.

Your looking at this from a players standpoint who wants justice, the CEO of SE has to look at it from a red and black ink perspective, however they approach this reset issue you can bet it wont be mass tank bans.

People seem to consistently forget that video game companies make games to make "profit", not to set new morale standards for gamers.

Option A, change leash mechanics on hunt mobs so tanks cant reset - little or no loss in subfee bottom line profits.

Option B, ban every tank who leashes a reset - a little to substantial subfee bottom line profit loss.

If there is one thing iv'e learned over 40 years of working, it's that money truly talks and BS truly walks, which option do you think they'll do.?

I think the person who finds the mark (and their group if they have one) should always get full credit. They did the work to look for it, they got lucky and were the first ones to find it, they deserve it. No one else deserves full credit. They may be lucky enough to get there in time, and that's great, but they weren't the ones to find it and thus aren't entitled to it.

To get full credit, the person / group who's found the mob have to be the ones to make the pull, especially if they're not a full party. This means they will have to pull as soon as they find the mark / their group gets there, before the group of 200 people arrives and claims it as theirs (even though they weren't the first ones there).

Resetting mobs is claim stealing and reward stealing, it's intentional griefing and should always be reported.

Square has weighed in and said malicious resets are a bannable offense. And honestly I still don't totally buy it, I've seen a LOT of people calling for resets and... I've yet to ever actually see it successfully happen.
And when I talked about the finders' mark, I envisioned it as basically an extra General tab action, with the following effects:
1) The mob cannot aggro any player that is not in the finder's party, for a period of X minutes or unless no member is within Y yalms of the mob, until the finder's party makes the pull. (This is needed to avoid abuse, otherwise some troll would mark the mob then wander off and do nothing for an extended period of time so nobody could touch it.)
2) If the finder's party participates, they receive a set seal reward over and above their contribution reward. (Might also be advisable to make the party automatically get full credit, but at the same time I could see this being abused too; consider a party putting up a finder's mark, then using one shield lob to pull, each member making a single auto-attack, then the whole group wanders off somewhere else and gets full credit plus bonus for the kill when it was other players who did the killing.)
3) An alert is sent out to only that zone reporting the monster's name and position. There shouldn't be a problem with this since none of the incoming players can touch the mob anyway; the finder's party has full rights to decide how long to wait before pulling the mob.

I'm not trying to talk about deserving or entitled. I just think it's a nice thing to do to let other parties in the area who're searching as hard as you for a hunt mark to join in and get a shot at the rewards too, and a bit mean-spirited to actively try and deny that chance.

I do agree, in theory. However, after seeing how often announcing the marks in shout leads to both another group pulling or resetting it (which often leads to the original founding party not receiving full reward) and horrible abuse in /shout chat, it really isn't something I'd recommend for anyone to do in this situation. Unfortunately, being nice and trying to share these marks just leads to a person not getting rewarded but being verbally abused and blacklisted instead.

Indeed. Twice now I've found an A-rank monster because it spawned near me whilst I was out and about doing other things (gathering, Atma book), shouted and got a grand total of 1 allied seal because enormous zerg mobs turned up and no-one would group with me because they're all already grouped with their zerg mob (even though it's highly likely given the numbers - not a perfect multiple of 8 - that at least one of the groups had a space.) Basically I was penalised for doing the "right thing".

I'd like to see spawn timers become more randomised, to prevent predictable farming by big zergs, and contributions being individual, not group-based, so people can pop in and enjoy a hunt if one happens near them rather than being locked out by farm groups.
