I've never understood trolls, and know they aren't exactly logical creatures, but what exactly is the point in trolling 1 person through an entire dungeon? Is it fun to waste 30+ minutes of your own time and get nothing out of it? o_o It seems incredibly stupid to me, and can't see how trolls would even find it entertaining.

There's a certain subsection of people who derive pleasure from the suffering of others, especially if it is someone they don't know and particularly if there is someone else there to back up their actions. I find that most of the serious problems I encounter in groups occur when a premade of two or more people are present. People are less likely to find fault in their own friends, and more likely to be critical about the mistakes of people who they have never met and will likely never see again. Met a guy like that in Syrcus Tower once. He queued with a bunch of his free company mates, and took that as a license to be a jerk when the tank didn't tank to his perfect standards. They ended up booting the tank, all because this guy had it out for him for no good reason (nothing was really going wrong, we weren't wiping or anything). The people this bard queued with eventually caved and agreed to the kick, because they valued their connection to him more than being fair to someone they had never met. There was also the case that I mentioned in a previous story in this thread, where a subpar tank and ninja premade pair banded together to kick a black mage that was as skilled as them simply because he was a stranger. When people come together as a group, bias can trump logic and fair play and result in situations like that Trollflox and abuses of the Vote Dismiss feature. It's possible that only one of the three people in Mysteltain's run went in with the intent to be malicious, and the friends followed along. Maybe they started to do it because they didn't like the way he was healing. It's also possible that all three of them actually went in there to troll a healer for their amusement, regardless of who they got. I guess there's no real way of knowing.

You won't get nearly as much of this from a single player who queued alone. The group is far less likely to side with the instigator's ridiculous behavior and may even remove them from the duty, effectively preventing the problem in many cases. That's why I try to be polite to random players when I do happen to queue for something in a partial premade. It isn't fair to torment or kick someone just because they're random player #5001.

I really hate that kind of thing. A lot of the trollish or just plain nasty Tanks tend to come with a DPS sidekick who backs them up in any issue when they gang up on the Healer. A lot of the time i find the DPS will side with the Tank in any argument with the Healer anyway i imagine because they feel it'll take longer to replace a Tank (That's actually wrong since a lot of Tanks will jump on an in progress run and actively look to join them XD) I've had the crazy mad dog Tank types who take forever to get threat on the million mobs they pull then start screaming when they die because i didn't want to heal and pull that mound off them in one heal then die and get screamed at anyway then when they shout the DPS will back them up even if they are like paper and take massive damage spikes then die in 2 seconds. In one case the Tank was SB low gear and the DPS still backed him up XD.

Some cases it's troll groups mostly it's just the DPS sidekick or sidekicks are up the Tanks backside because they want 100% fast queues for farming.

Yep, your experiences further highlight this phenomenon. People behaving poorly towards strangers in DF who are playing just fine or on the same level because of social consequences or disadvantages like a longer queue time if they don't side with their jerk of a friend. I have a message for people who queue with friends that are jerks to random players for no reason: if you have a problem with their behavior, stand up for the person who is being bullied instead of joining the mob. If you lose a friendship over it, it's no real loss anyway. Video game or not, that person has no character.

But I should probably stop ranting about this. While it does have some relation to terrible healing experiences, I may be starting to come across as a little preachy.

Well talking about all this reminds me of the first run I did in Stone Vigil HM. The tank was a dick from the get go and told the takes that they should only queue up for that dungeon as BLK, and complained when we didn't get to the first boss in 4 minutes. The difference here though was that a DPS started a dismiss vote, and me and the other person agreed to it.

The tank was the only one with a bad attitude. The other two apologized about it because it was my first run, but I was fine with it. Better to wait 10 minutes for a new tank then stick with a jerk. One of the DPS also found out he was the leader of a FC so... I can just imagine how much fun that must be.


But uh... To stay on topic..? Hmm... Oh. I've been doing Syrcus Tower a lot lately (damn sands of time!) and have noticed that DPS need more healing than tanks do. Even if my tank is MT. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Get out of AoEs, seriously. Also why do so many DPS not like to stick with the group? If I'm Group A, why are you over with Group C? It's hard to heal you if you do this.

Did Pharos Sirius last night.. and was left scratching my head and going "wtf just happened?"

Started out good with the war tank waiting for me to get buffs up (SS on everyone, casting one at a time, yay!). Had my friend on nin and a blm for DPS.. seemed good. War runs through to pull a bunch, so I get into cleric and swiftcast a shadow flare when he stops, then switch back out.. blm tosses an aoe as well. Nin friend had to suddenly afk at the start, so he came about 10 seconds later.

..as soon as aoes hit, both me and the blm were getting chewed on, while the tank's hp also started to rapidly drop. Did a full rouse + fey illumination + whispering dawn + succor, followed by several lustrates. We survived without anyone dying, but it left me a bit shaken.. decided to stay out of cleric unless things absolutely looked safe.

For the next while, the tank slowed down and did only one group at a time, and the blm didn't aoe. Unfortunately, in addition to not aoeing, the blm also didn't go for any adds.. so on the first boss, about 95% of the floor ended up being covered in aoes, and again all of us dropped hp at once. This time, my nin friend dropped (he tried to kill the dogs ;_; ), but I was able to keep everyone else alive. There was no communication after the initial hellos, so if they wanted to focus fire on bosses, they never mentioned it..

We get to the valve room and things started off okay.. killed the first mob on its own. But then.. tank decides to run up to the top and grab everything else in the room. Blm doesn't aoe, tank doesn't keep hate on everything (seems some of the mobs spawned their own adds), and again we come extremely close to wiping. I had to use Eos' skills again and burned through 6 lustrates rather quickly.

For Siren, again it was only my friend getting adds, but the fight went mostly smooth. No comments were made about the run, other than the usual thanks/take care/etc, so it's not like anyone was too unhappy with how I healed at least? The tank was in i110-i120 gear, and blm was there working on relic (didn't check their gear).. so I really don't know why we had so many near wipes. Been a month or so since I last ran Pharos, so maybe that's just how it goes? Gah. D:

Ahhhh Pharos.... Everyone and their mother thinks they can pull that entire first room. I've seen plenty of wipes on relic SR's right there. It's kind of funny. Also, I think the first boss actually punishes you for pushing DPS too hard. The adds can get a bit uncontrollable.

Well it's often to help other groups kill adds which will wipe the entire raid if they are not killed in time or because they were taking fire to frozen people in another group and so on. It annoys me more when people can't see beyond their own group it's a raid you're not three separate parties that act alone. If you're only able to see and heal your own group and in one area you are doing it wrong. There are usually only certain times you need to heal a great deal of your own group anyway unless they keep face planting into AoE's. Some of my recent ST's i was in decent groups so spent more time healing other groups then my own especially A on first boss since their healers were being chain frozen.

I haven't figured out how to make it wasy yet. And I'm not against healing other people, but if my DPS is standing way on the other side of the room and is at 20% HP, what am I suppose to do? Some times it's hard to leave my group during AoE heavy sections of a fight.

I absolutely hate when this happens. I can see their party list HP bar low, but I'm out of range because they're on the farthest side of the room. Then I have the choice to either waste my time hunting them down (I have a hard time seeing their selector target arrow, most of the time through the chaos o_O) and possibly miss healing someone else if the other healer doesn't (and I have a hard time letting go of the healing reins as it is), or I'm forced to let them die because my attention is needed/more dire elsewhere (like dying tank/dying healer/dying group.... needs of the many, etc).

I have, however, ran onto another alliance's pads (luckily only in Scylla) by accident quite often though xD; (...then I end up temporarily supporting their group if I see non-full bouncing green bars, until I can get back to mine >.>; but ah well)
