I, for myself, have decided to leave XIV for an uncertain amount of time when my subscription runs out mid-January as I don't really enjoy the game anymore.
I'll clearly miss the SGD, even though I haven't posted a lot in the last weeks/months I still checked the thread every now and then.

It's always a sad thing read something like this.

But I feel in the same way. I just tired to look for a static only to find something that will be disbanded two week later or I must leave, I changed too much party and now I was forced to give up with the raids. The patch 3.1 was a big misstep for SE and it didn't give nothing worth to play, the anima weapon is... Too much, just too much.
So, I'm wondering if leave this game or just lay an alt in order to wait better patch.

I'm looking for some people to argue against my point for horizontal progression - the best way to test something is to ask people to break it for you. Can reply here or in the original thread, but I might miss it if its in the original thread (expecting it to blow up with unrelated stuff)

People would work out that it is best to use shield A in fight X, shield B in fight Y and shield C in fight Z. But, all would suffice as a shield.

However, if one does not have the ability or time to obtain all the different items, the system would work out. The illusion of choice argument is only if you have access to all the different options so you can simply choose the best one.
What if you only had shield A and B but you were going to fight Z? Is shield A or B the 2nd best? There is probably an answer to that. But if there was no ilvl so you had 20 shields to choose from (only these exist in the game minus leveling phase), or you have a mixed system where there are say 3 shields to choose from per ilvl tier, the answer won't be clear. Perhaps a shield from the previous ilvl tier is better when you don't have shield C for fight Z (This actually happened to the bard body from WoD, an ilvl120 piece which was considered better than other ilvl130 pieces)

Perhaps the shields could suit different playstyles (I'm getting a bit too hopeful here) - you might gear yourself to deal a lot more damage and have 4.5 dps members in your 8 man party, but your mitigation will be low. Or you might go full mitigation and make it possible to solo tank in 8 man fights (or at least semi solo tank - skipping some tank swaps or tanking some of the adds meant for the 2nd tank).


Another example of horizontal progression, which is actually in the game is the current tier of crafting gear (ignoring specialisation...that is NOT horizontal progression but a restriction). Each class has a class specific set of gear that is the best you can get, but you cannot use it on another class. Additionally, there is a set of crafted + melded gear which can be used by any class, but is inferior in stats. You cannot obtain all the class specific gear within a reasonable amount of time (1 year), so you must choose. However, the crafted + melded gear is sufficient (this is key - otherwise it becomes a restriction like specialisation) for any craft (to my current knowledge it is), but it is difficult - you might need FC buffs, food, luck etc.

Just saw Star Wars this week end. Holy catnip it was awesome.

Whew! I've been back at work and just crazy times. Apparently my subscription ran out, whoops! I didn't really get to play over the Christmas period like I wanted to. So, I am going to just focus on levelling my gathering/crafting jobs which have been long neglected. That seems like something I can manage over my limited play time.

I’ve been extremely busy running dungeons for my relic. (^_^; ) I’m “almost” there… Only 8 more Unidentifiable Shells and 4 more Unidentifiable Seeds to go before my Paladin Relic is complete. If i can get roughly 360 Poetics and 180 Law Tomes a day, i should be able to finish the relic before 3.2 is release. hehe.

After that, i can start working on my White Mage / Bard Relic. Chances are that i’ll work on the White Mage one next (at a much pace of course).

Talking about dungeons for the relic… I’ve seen in increase of “Odd” MSQ Roulette’s. (^_^; ) The most peculiar one i had was the The Praetorium one i was in yesterday. It’s normal that every single group you have in there wants to speed run the place. Which is fine and all, as long as you do it properly…

There was a tank in that run, who simply ran through each mob, without as much as a single Flash. This resulted in some “interesting pulls”. (^_^; ) Especially after opening the first big door, where we need to go around the outside, down a few ramps and through the teleporter to get to the first boss. Since no Flashes were given, the tank jumped through the portal and the enemies scattered through the rest of the group swatting them like flies. /sigh

Then, after the first boss, you need to grab a key item from the console in order to use Maggie at the top floor. Since we got a “New Player bonus”, i figured i’d ask the party if they got the key item from the console (while pointing at it). Someone replied that they did, as the lift was going up. However, i decided to wait until everyone had gotten into Maggie before jumping in myself. Sure enough, 2 people weren’t able to hop onto Maggie, so i waited for them to get the key item from the console down the elevator.

After the 3 of us jumped onto Maggie and started walking towards Nero, all of the enemies you come across before the taking the elevator to the Research department (with the Protos Arms) were walking back to their original spawning location (attacking us and almost killing us in the process). So, the main group didn’t kill any of these mobs with Maggie. /sigh_number_2

At last, we’ve defeated Gaius and arrived at Ultima! \(^_^ )/ (Speed wasn’t a problem, but the journey there was pretty troublesome)

So, before we jumped in and fought Ultima, i said “Don’t attack the boss until the big white flash.”, hoping that the new guys didn’t go <Full Attack!> on the boss and having Ultima jump around the party like a pinball table. The non-flash-Paladin replied with a “?” and literally no one was attacking the boss. /sigh_number_3

My co-healer eventually pulled by walking towards Ultima and starting the fight.

So, guys (and gals)... What’s happening to our community? (^_^; ) Are we that lost in brute forcing content that people simply don’t know any of the mechanics or simple don’t bother with it anymore?

It makes me a little sad and i think i died a little inside. /cry

So, on that note… Who else here is going to enlist for the Mentor job opening which will be introduced in 3.2? Any thoughts on that?

If I have my baby son on me, it's Triple Triad vs the Indolent Imperial, else I'll do a Praetorium if I have 20mins to myself. So far, after 10x Praetoriums in a row, not a single card has dropped (didn't even know you could get the other two there lol). I've probably done over 500 TT games over the last week against the Imperial, getting 50x of each of the Livia, Rhitahtyn and Nero cards, but no Gaius. But I'm gonna fight RNGesus to the death on this one!

I didn't go for the new relic. Geez, that's a total waste of time! ... uh...

Well… Not exactly. “Rhitahtyn sas Arvina” drops during the “Cape Westwind” Trial, “Livia sas Junius” drops from the “Castrum Meridianum” dungeon and “Gaius van Baelsar” drops from The Praetorium. I’m just getting Cape Westwind a lot recently (most of the time with the new player bonus).

Don’t kill RNGesus too hard though. I still need some of that <Good luck!>

I'm a new player who'll buy the full game next week, on Cerberus (hoping that's a good and populated server), and loving the game so far and the prospect of Dragoon and Bard. P.s. not much of a FF expert. Only played crystal-something on DS, and another one, also FF3 and started 4 and 11 on DS i think :)

I've read that the Shiva gear is called the "Hailstorm Attire of Casting" (source: (Dengekionline) Preview for patch 3.2.), meaning that it would be used for Black Mage and Summoner. I haven't really seen a set for Fending, Aiming and Healing yet. Although, i'm guessing that we'll get the "Landslide Attire of Fending". (^_~ )

But, in that same thread i also read contradictory things as well. Ow well, only a week or so to go till the patch. We'll know for sure then. (^_~ )

Welcome to the game Vidrian! \(^_^ )/ You don't have to be an Final Fantasy Expert to enjoy what the game has to offer you, so take your time and explore the possibilities the game has to offer.

You mentioned that you liked the prospect of the Dragoon and the Bard. I see that you've leveled Archer and Lancer to 20 and on top of that you've already unlocked Pugilist and Marauder as well. It seems to me that you've already done some research. Good job! (^_^ )-b

Once you get the Lancer to 30 and the Marauder to 15, you'll be able to unlock the "Dragoon"-job. However, if you haven't read about it already, but as a dragoon you can also use skill from the Pugilist. You can find the cross class skill you can use from both classes here:

Once you get the Archer to 30 and the Pugilist to 15, you'll be able to unlock the "Bard"-job. Like with the "Dragoon" Job, you can also use skill from the Lancer. You can find the cross class skill you can use from both classes here:

Take your time to familiarize with the classes and pick the class you find the most fun to use. However, i would like to suggest that you pick up the Conjurer class as well (located in Old Gridania). If you level that class to 8, you can use both "Cure" and "Protect" while leveling your classes. This will make it a lot easier, since you will get less damage due to "Protect" and you can heal yourself in sticky situations with "Cure".

Because the bows in FF14 look AMAAAAAZING, and I read somewhere that instead of pure dps, it also offers multiple buffs to support their party, and I'd like to be, for once, something else than pure dps ;)
Also, Aldora, If i unlock bard and DRG at 30, I lose the ability to use Cure and protect on them, right?

Yes, that is correct. (^_^ ) That's because a Dragoon can only use the cross class abilities from the Marauder and Pugilist. When you are not equipping a Soulstone, you can use the cross class skills from all available classes, while being able to equip more them at the same time.

This will make the leveling part from 1 to 30 a lot easier if you have Cure and Protect available. (^_~ )-b

Hello Cherubs, I've been having some computer issues! Somethings messed up and my team (Rubi ... w/ Maki on Line Support) of Computer (experts?) are pulling it apart to see why its doing that weird pixel buggy spuzzy thing.

How is everyone going with their relics? I have saved up 2000 Esoteric Tomes, predicting that we can buy Relic items with it since they are introducing a new Tome.

I do wish that SE had not spoiled this patches Scion appearing >< ... surely they could have hinted at her instead of showing us completely?
And I very much would have rathered see a certain someone getting punched in the face during the heat of the moment rather then in a trailer...

I suppose its a difficult balance between showing off great content and keeping things hidden for the players to experience first hand...

I had the trinity ready for quite some time now. (^_^ ) I’ve been Playing with the Paladin, White Mage and Bard since 2.x and those were the classes i got to 60 first. But, i know what you mean. A good friend of mine wants to give the mentor system a go as well, but he doesn’t have a healer leveled to 60 yet.

I finally finished my Paladin Relic this weekend! Yay! Next to that, i have a Bard bow, ready to enter the 3rd Phase and a White Mage Staff which needs the Heavensward Dungeons in order to finish the 2nd Phase.

I’m not really planning on keeping up the same pace for these relics, but i’m still doing the Beastmen quests as we speak. Trying to collect the currency for the Unidentifiable items.

I’ve been watching the trailer several times now and i’m really stoked to get my hands on the new dungeons, Alexander floors, Main Story quest and side quests! In regards to the Main story trailer, every time i watched that part, more question pop up in my head. Even though they spoiled *that*, i’m dying to know where it is heading!

So I'm lazier than you because my progress is: 19/9/2/0. I don't know if I can complete my Nothung before the new step, but with only a roulette and a handful of beast tribe quest my progress is very very very slow.

About the Main Story, I just hope there will be nothing like heartbroken tragedy, despair and darkness. After the season finale of RWBY I cannot endure any more for some time.

After finally managing to get the fending pants from Pharos Sirius Hard Mode today, i figured it was time to update my Paladin glamour (so that i can make all of my tanks look the same at one point. (^_~ )

I really like how it turned out!

My internet connection continues to be bad to the Japanese servers, and there is not much I can do (have had technicians etc looking at the connection, but I live in a remote part of Australia), so I do not play as much as I used to. I still enjoy the game though! I am looking forward to more storyline and stuff I can do solo - my in-game husband gets upset with me that I won't do dungeons and things, but I lag so horribly lately that I am scared people will die/I will die and get mad at me. :(

Hopefully this time next year I will be moved into a major city, as next year marks 10 years of living in the remote tropics! I miss my home of Sydney!

why when they make a new relic is it totally replaced next patch by the new trial entry weapons after it took forever to even make one.... let alone some people have made 3+ not sure how they did it but thats some major motivation some people have

Have you tried WTFast? Just to see if it makes any difference, what so ever? I'm personally not fond of such solutions, but it helps you sort out your connection issues, you can at least try that until you have a better connection next year. It did help a few of my friends.

She had a certain charm/elegance about her. It was a shame she picked the wrong side. (^_~ ) Personally, i didn't fight her in XIII-2 because i thought that the Arena battles were too hard to be considered "fun".

I hope when 3.2 comes online to see many many many new glamor choices cause I kinda have super high hopes for this patch glamorwise reading the prelim notes :)

Next year when I am moved, I will look into purchasing a gaming PC - it will be cheaper and easier to do living near a city and not in the bush!! :D
