The Venn Diagram of people who play FFXIV and people who watch anime is almost a complete circle, so it's no wonder that people would go out of their way to swap to Japanese.
I think the English voices are stellar (after ARR) including Wuk.

I really love her voice, really bringing over the big (and slightly clumsy) sister character. ^^
Edit:
I am using the English one. I don't speak Japanese and know from movies etc. that hearing a different language than reading it (in subtitles etc) is extra confusing for me. At first I tried the German one because I am German, but let's just say I am not very fond of German voice acting in many games and FFXIV is no exception. (To me it sounds so over the top "clean" and free of any kind of dialect or accent, making it sound rather unnatural to me, and kind of hard to distinguish.) And some UI translations were really confusing.
That said, my English is okay, but it took me a while to understand what the Rogue quests were about. :D I was on the fence if I should switch back to German after all for a while.
I think my audio is in ENG, but I hear it so rarely because actually I play with my game muted and listen to something else while I'm gaming. Radio, news, YT trash, just some good music.
Had to go sample Wuk Lamat from YT, and considered her voice to be 2/5-ish. Overall just kinda flat performance. "Could be better, would have tried to find someone else if I was casting person."
But I wont be listening to her or anyone anyway (unless any random cutscene seems interesting, I tend to turn on audio for those ;3), so whatever.
Don't really care of the voice actor's feelings, or her fan base's feelings - except that I hope they are fine. Let's live and let live.
Uhh???? Who's pushing Christian beliefs on the game? You can have Christian beliefs, like Undeadfire said, but they don't push them on other people??? People are allowed to have different opinions and different opinions are not inherently transphobic. I hate that everyone online these days regardless of which side; has the mindset that 'if you don't agree with me 100% you're the devil and i hate you and you don't deserve an opinion and everything you say can be dismissed because you're evil.'. Stop it. Get some help.
That's not what I said at all, but ok. The very first thread made by the person who complained about being banned (who then seems to have gotten banned for doing the same thing) opened the thread by misgendering Sena and lashing out when called on it. I have been called a liar for stating that fact. There's a post on these forums that states:
I thought it was Erenville for a minute when I first heard the voice in the first couple trailers.
I don't think it's the worst voice acting ever but I do agree there are times when her accent feels forced. I hope things improve for the expansion. When she's on it feels great and I can get a good feel for what the character is supposed to be, just falls a bit flat here and there.
Basically all the voices in 6.55, and even earlier, for example G'raha in Thaleia - "Servants? What's the meaning of this?", though the Myths themselves sound alright - sound so very, very tired, almost like the actors were just over it and/or wanted to get it out of the way. Bad voice direction? Hell if I know, not my area of expertise, can only comment on the end result.
As for Wuk? She sounded fine in the trailer, mostly okay during the patch and at parts (casual conversation) slightly better than the regular voices - they sounded, again, just so over it - and other parts (stressed moments, combat) less so.
Lived through ARR and took me a while to get used to the HW voices, so I'm willing to give Wuk a chance to grow into and get comfortable with the role.
It's not a question of taste for manga, anime or other such media, but rather of keeping the basic language of the game? To me, it's the same debate as the good old "sub or dub". If a film is English/German/Japanese, I'll put it in its original language + subtitles.
Personally, I prefer to go at my own pace, and I find spoken dialogues too long; so I read, and having French spoken at the same time hinders comprehension. The exact opposite of :
So Japanese / French for me (and I tried french voices and found them... Awful, I'll be honest).Quote:

Tbh I often have the feeling the voices have more "variation" and strive a bit further from the regular voice in the patches, because it's just different if you work several hours each day in voicing the big block of text for a whole expansion or if you come in for maybe 2 or 3 hours once in a month. Reminds me of how surprisingly enthusiastic and vivid Ser Aymeric sounded in one of the Shadowbringers patches. It was a happy and enthusiastic moment, so it wasn't super out of place, but the character himself barely tends to show real excitement, with all the burdens he has to carry. And Cid sounds different in every expansion to me because although the character appears plenty of times, it's mostly in some unvoiced raid series. The post-ARR VA of Cid probably had 20-30 lines to voice for the entire game, all spread out over months, even years. I remember googling if his VA had changed more than once...) Doesn't mean the VAs are bad in general, it's just a different work environment in both voicing and directing I could imagine. (On top of that, as recent interviews show, they rarely have proper context to what is actually happening, unless they play the game themselves. This is imo a point where Wuk Lamat's VA has a really big advantage: She has been playing since 1.0, she's a real FFXIV veteran. She was around when Dalamud crashed.) And no matter who is being casted for this, being new probably adds an extra level of difficulty to this.
As someone with libertarian leanings, although very much on the humanitarian side as opposed to the right-wing Objectivist bent that's unfortunately become synonymous with libertarianism, the thought of someone else's religion dictating what I legally can or can't do boils my blood. You can believe what you want at home, but keep your Sky Daddy out of public policy. Also, trans rights are human rights.
With regard to the voice acting, Wuk Lamat's didn't stick out to me in and of itself. There was definitely some awkward voice direction this patch all around, but the line delivery that actually felt so awkward it snapped me out of my immersion for a minute came from Krile.
the fact this thread spiraled into transphobia accusations and defending of said accusations only tells me that this is the core of the entire issue. and that people cannot talk about this topic without it devolving into that one way or another, or without attacking eachother over said beliefs, which is ultimatley stupid as turning threads into warzones doesnt really accomplish any meaningful change. im actually suprised a GM hasnt shut it down yet because of this -
the case for her voice acting just isnt strong enough to steer this thread alone, which again tells me. it just isnt that big of an issue
More or less, yeah. The discussion was done yonks ago. OP said their piece, as have others and myself. We're just bumping this thread and seeing people telling on themselves (their posts being rightfully deleted, just to be clear). High chances are that things will not go OP's way, so they'll need to make the choice to either deal with the English voices, swap to one of the other languages, or play mostly in English until Wuk Lamat enters their peripheral vision.
r/ffxivdiscussion had exactly one thread on the matter, where the general consensus was that the overall voice direction was off, then the thread died within like 2 days- because even they realised that it just wasn't a big deal that matters that much and moved on.
let's be real, the only reason why this has been dragged on longer than it had any right to be is because this place is barely moderated.
Not just lack of moderation but there aren't many other equally as engaging threads. Place has tumble weeds in more meaningful topics.
Not sure why you want moderators to delete my legitimate criticism thread? Silencing opinions doesn't make them go away...
Not what people are saying, Karious. Just that there's nothing more to be said and the posts that have been deleted were deleted for a legitimate reason.
Though there are some posts that probably should be deleted just for getting off topic (like this one and others that just come off as bumping for the sake of bumping).
I feel the same, like her voice in the Dawntrail trailer was good, but hearing it in 6.5 she sounds... Bad, like the VA is forcing the lines and it just is horrible execution. I had a friend point this out on multiple Discord servers before he EVEN KNEW THE VA WAS TRANS and he got banned and/or kicked due to "Transphobic views". HE DIDN'T EVEN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE VA BEING TRANS, only said that the VA genuinely did a bad job and they should of got someone else.
"Wow I have complaints about a certain character!"
"OH YEAH WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER CHARACTERS?"

Which Twitter bogeyman hurt you that you feel the need to bring it up in every reply to me? lmao
Anyways I think its pretty fair to point out that other voice acting in the same exact scenes were also lackluster, so the hyper focus on one specific actor is going to be hyper analyzed of why its happening, and an obvious answer comes up doesn't it?
I didn't even say I liked Wuk Lamats voice acting, the whole patch was pretty meh to me personally.
Yes they are new to story, but do you really have bigger expectations for new talent than the old? Doesn't that seem kinda backwards?
It's actually a completely valid question. We're supposed to believe that with all the voiced characters in this game that suddenly this one character is terribly voiced? Some people saying the voices of other characters have been subpar? OK, wheres the 50 page thread on them?
Sorry, but a 10 year old game only ever getting one massive thread to complain about 1 character's voice in 10 years sure does point to it being about a lot more than the voice. Especially when reactions outside this toxic forum have been a lot more positive. Much as you'd like to think so there is absolutely not a consensus that this voice is the worst thing ever.
Because it isn't.
I have yet to see a new character introduced that people didn't massively complain about. Wuk lamat is no different other than the fact she's appearing to be the new main character in the story.
Regardless of the nonsense you're trying to spin in an attempt to detail the thread, the criticism is still valid no matter who the VA is.
