Kill a summon you get it, one pops every 2 weeks (or so they say) when you are a summoner, you can summon lesser primals with a medium sized cooldown (15-30m on each one that stay with you for the duration like carbuncle). To further your summoner job you gotta put the effort in to summon the big baddies (Ramuh, Ifrit, Garuda, etc) and beating them lets you have their power. You can use this as a 24-48hr cooldown. Making these big guys really impactful in both leveling solo and party as you have to know when the best time to use these guys. Instead of making the whole WORLD go insane, why not just the zone? You summon Ramuh in a zone, everyone knows he's there somewhere and the newbies wanna go look... but it won't be used for a "show" since the CD is so long.
This helps with 2 things:
1) Summoners can summon stuff which they like, and can summon the dangerous primals at a whim, but must do so delicately and be forced with the lessers until the moment they need them, (Maybe have the primals stay around for 10-30m or so too, just because they're cool)
2) Keeps the summoner job unique but ultimately scaled with other jobs. I didn't like how in FFXI they were just glorified healers for the most part or brought out and use stoneskin and retreated. This can balance well if they added back the old 2hr for other jobs (which I thought was a great idea being able to use a unique skill that is insane every 2hr) or 2day abilities.
Everyone's happy. Summoners get to show off their guys, They aren't OP, Makes summoners very unique play style, requires effort to get these summons (still have the world pops and the random instances to GET them, that way not one uber LS is constantly camping or trying to camp these instances if there are 3-5 places for them to pop, that means they only need 30ppl tops and alot of high end ls's have around 100)
If they want to bring in the "casual gamer" but still "final fantasy" fan, it will be hard to sell them this idea, knowing they got to summon them in other games, but they can't juggle work, school, etc. to try to find the repop time of these guys (I remember camping Tiamat, Serket, Speed Belt crab, etc at 4AM) so this could cause friction with the casuals.
The hardcore gaming Final fantasy junkie is far and in between, and since the launch of FF14 to get the old lovers of FF back into this type of game (and alot of FF junkies aren't into MMOs) making summons so exclusive to only a few people is not the direction this should go.
