How is this a streamlining? They didn't remove any spells or abilities, and they added new ones. If what they come up with is incompatible with non-standard it wasn't because of streamlining, it was because they either didn't take non-standard into account in the 91-100 skills and talents; OR they decided to remove non-standard because it was in the way they intended the job to play. But without a reduction in something, I'm not sure how it can be called more streamlined. Less flexible, maybe, but definitely not more streamlined.

Streamline was in regard to the other jobs in my comment and not blm.
I didn‘t mention nonstandard rotation there.

From the digest released today,

"MP will be no longer be recovered based on server ticks and will instead recover upon landing ice-aspected spells. The rotation will be easier to understand, and you may want to keep an eye out for new aspects to optimize compared to before. The job action trailer also revealed a new ability to reposition your ley lines once per cast."

They think there is still things to optimize but it does confirm you must indeed land ice spells so that's nice to know.

im glad its no longer server ticks and now ice spells. ive been on hold for waiting for server ticks many times.

It might be your definition, but I don't think it's the literal definition of it (from Oxford):

You can have options and be streamlined. It's more a question of efficiency. When we're talking about streamlining designs at work it's more a question of making sure that the options the user has are all useful ones.

That's great for software where the goal is to Accomplish Some Task(s) Because You're Paid to Do Them™ or Because You're an Adult Who Needs to Do a Thing™.

It's less great for software that is a game, where some people find joy in the process of figuring out what The Best Thing To Do Is™, or where some people find joy in the process of Training Themselves to Git Gud at Doing The Best Thing™.

Is waiting on server ticks "janky feeling"? Sure, especially if you don't have a magic oracle that's telling you when those ticks actually happen.

Is "force the player cast an ice-aspected spell" the best solution to that? I'm not so sure, especially when BLM's kit has been given so many non-fire aspected buttons that they can push whenever they deem appropriate.

I don't think you're asking for more flexibility. It's actually more flexible for it to only be ice spells that regenerate mana. Otherwise you are just paying attention to what resources you have during ice phase and making sure you cast the maximum potency for the required amount of spells cast to regen full mana. With mana regen being limited to ice spells, all we have to calculate is whether we want to pool resources for a buff window or if we want to spend one of them during ice window to avoid capping.

If you would gain mana from using xenoglossy during ice phase, we would have no choice but to use it over ice spells. This is less flexibility, not more.

That is all, completely, flat-out wrong.

The most flexibility is provided by, "If you wait Long Enough™, you will get back up to 10k MP."

I can do whatever I want while waiting. I can /cheerjump. I can cast Thunder spells. I can consume Polyglot stacks. I can stand around twiddling my thumbs and literally doing nothing. It doesn't matter, as long as I spend enough time.

Not every piece of content and the conditions under which it is done requires optimal DPS. And for the content and conditions that do require optimal DPS, part of the fun is figuring that out and getting good at it.

Okay so we're talking about optimal play and flexibility. If you can recover mp with xenoglossy and have a charge, you have to use it to be optimal. There's nothing flat out wrong about that. It's the same thing with mp regen being tick based, if you had charges you had to use them.

The people having a knee-jerk reaction to this change don't realize that it is actually more flexibility because you have the freedom to pool charges for buff window instead of spending them while waiting for mana ticks. We're talking about optimal play and flexibility, not casual play.
