Nah, you can get the complete story, you just have spend a few hundred dollars outside of the game and buy 3-5 extra novels per expansion.

Yeah. They've been adding a decent amount of content that actually takes the player out into the game world complete with puzzles to solve and a decent amount of glamour, toys, pets and mounts to acquire. I'd like to see FFXIV take more notes on that front, particularly when it comes to adding a greater variety of rewards to appeal to a broader variety of personal tastes.
Ah, Dragonflight... Where if you don't play on patch then the content is dead.
See Citadel Siege.
See Cooking Pot Event.
See Centaur Hunts.
See Obsidian Citadal.
See Colbalt Assembly rep.
See Frozen Future.
See Forbidden Reach.
See Z Caverns.
All Dead Content that was introduced in Dragonflight. Have fun trying to do any of them when they were designed around 5-30 people helping you. Not solo designed at all, nor were they scaled back after the players left.
After the coming patch Dreamsurges and Time Rifts will also be dead as LFR will give gear that's 50 ilevels higher than what they give. So, if you don't do them now then you'll have to wait til next expansion so you can farm it solo if you want the collection items and outfits.
Ah, FOMO.... So much content, yet none of it matters nor can be done in a timely manner solo as no ones doing any of it now. So, if you started late or wanted to do it then you're out of luck. Not to mention the sensory overload new players get when they hit 70 as they are just thrown every quest out of order in Vakdrakken while the original story quests in the Zones are all locked behind Renown still despite being necessary to understand what's even going on for later story quests that Valdrakken gives.
I don’t have a strong opinion on WOW either way but
1) isn’t more content better than less content, I’ll gladly miss doing 2-3 out of these 8 options if it means I actually get content rather than “we have to account for people who do the content in 6 years so the best way to resolve that is doing no content
2) it’s much easier to retroactively evergreen released content than release content itself (see echo)
IDK like I said I don’t have a strong opinion about WOW but this still sounds way better than what 14 has been doing in EW
Content that cannot be done in a timely manner or not at all may as well not exist. Blizzard abandoned all that content despite having a system already in place to scale it down for solo or less players being in those areas.
It's not 2-3 options. It's all of those options. They're all dead content.
I guess your experience was a bit different than mine. I still see people doing quite a bit of that stuff when I log on to mess around. I do agree that Forbidden Reach died when Zaralak Caverns was released which was kind of unfortunate, but there were almost constant groups killing the bosses there until that point. Zaralack Caverns was definitely dead after a few weeks which was probably due to the world quest and boss rewards being pretty meh and how you didn't need to do much in the zone outside of the story quests since they added it all to the overworld. I agree about the gear issues, but honestly that is an issue in FF14 as well since as soon as the next tier releases 8 months later it immediately invalidates what you were using. I also agree that WoW kind of throws a ton of things at you when you hit level cap but that is mainly because of a different mentality than FF14 in that they want the game to start at endgame vs FF14's massive story and leveling experience. WoW could do a hell of a lot better in that regard for sure as I still get confused after taking a few months off and have to relearn what I need to do.
I still think it's not too terrible to get into as you have the weekly quest reward for timewalking dungeons (when it's running) and doing heroic dungeons so players are incentivized to still do the intro dungeon content at least plus you can still do most world quests solo as well as the weekly events solo to help with gearing. I won't disagree that FF14 makes it really easy to get into current tier content due to crafted gear being available day 1 of a new tier and completely replacing everything from the previous tier but at the same time with level scaling and the baseline changing with every major patch in WoW it isn't that terrible either (when you figure out what you are doing of course).
What about all the people who did the content on patch, do their experiences mean nothing is what I’m saying
14 is so focused on making sure nobody misses any content that the solution they came up with is to release no content at all
Millions of people logged in for those WOW patches and did that content on launch, why is their experience meaningless because you can’t log in 6 months later and do them
This is to say nothing of my other point that having content they can evergreen later is objectively a better situation then 14 having no content to evergreen later
