I guess, many of the loud "we want OCE servers"-vocals vastly overestimated their population. :) But Patch 6.1 is ready and many players will return to the game. :)

A lot of the queue issue I feel is a combination of more players than people think being lower leveled/in past expansions. And many people have only unlocked stuff on the main path.
I saw someone saying they were in an Ivalice queue for over an hour while at the same time I was having Alliance roulette pop every 10 minutes or less as a DPS that only has Crystal Tower raids unlocked
Yes, the population is low across the data center. Its especially slow during Aussie weekday mornings. But its going to take time for the population to grow.
In the meantime, Square Enix could hopefully look into tweaking the matchmaking system somehow to help the situation. Maybe give a gameplay incentive for unlocking Sky Pirate/Ivalice alliance raids, non MSQ dungeons, and increases rewards for trial roulette
I did wonder if they'd thought about moving Tonberry. The uproar would have been merciless but you're right, it would have given the datacentre a leg to stand on.
And again, as mentioned by myself and others in this thread, and the other threads - exactly where were these loud OCE people that wanted servers? They weren't in my community. No one wanted to see their raid groups and friends get split with people stressing out whether to stay or leave. Can you link some threads? I didn't see them on the forums either.
And again, as mentioned, I am grateful for the datacentre but believe it could have a lot of issues solved by opening cross region with NA.
Maybe I should just set this as a signature.

I am unsure how things are there currently, but I know many did not wish to re level literally everything FC related, re attempt to get a house, and lose many other things they currently had already. Though it has been pretty dead recently on primal at least at odd hours. I used to be able to queue for stuff even at 5am est but if you queued two weeks ago it was pretty long no matter what roll you were playing. Could just be my luck, but I think it was just many people taking a break before the big patch. Though OCE has a different issue. If they want everyone off their server they need to just edit your information within the game so you do not have to do any of these things. I know from playing other things and having administrative permissions you could make exceptions if someone's character was lost and give them items they lost or edit their ranking up and such. There should be some exceptions and they should give more compensation for the hours of work lost when actually transferring to a new server.
Just some observations as a NA player with a character I moved from Kujata to Zurvan to play with my Aus friend when he made the move.
My queue times are no worse on OCE than they are at times on NA as a DPS, even though I play at off peak times for OCE.
The ping is slightly worse for me on Zurvan than it was on Kujata which is to be expected. It only really affected my gameplay once and that was on Bismark when to me it looked like he had just been harpooned in and I jumped onto his back from my perspective and really jumped into the abys as he had already left. I laughed pretty hard about that and my group gave me a much deserved ribbing which also had me chuckling. I don't care about serious end game stuff so it just isn't a big crises for me to have more ping.
The Marketboard on Zurvan is tough with many things not available.Sales are very slow but things do sell eventually but you do have to spend a little time and figure out what is moving and what isn't. Not that I am a big marketboard player (I am not) but it is just good sense to do your research if you are planning to sell.
If you are a social player then Zurvan is not the server for you. It is quiet even during peak times. For me that is perfection as I much prefer small servers where I can just be left alone to do my own thing. It is not a good fit for some though.
Housing I really don't care. Really not much I need more than an apartment for the way I play the game.
This would be more impressive if you'd actually read anything you've linked. But it's ok, I can spell it out for you since you seem to need some help.

This is asking for ping reducing advice. No mention of asking for OCE servers.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...erver-location
This is a general thread asking for more server locations in general. The OP mentions East Coast USA and Europe.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...ceania-players
This thread is asking for the ability to pay in NZD or AUD as a reason for an Aus server. Guess what, even with the Aus servers now, we still have to pay in Euros. Boy, we're really getting what we asked for huh.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...ncy-at-Endgame
This thread acknowledges an OCE datacentre is unlikely, and is asking for advice on where to play.

This thread is excited YoshiP is visiting Australia.

Ooh you got one! A thread from 2014. Nice job!
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...ceanic-Servers
This thread acknowledges a OCE datacentre is unlikely and is instead asking if we could designate an English speaking server on the JP datacentre.

2015 here! You got some. Let's keep going.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...better-latency
This thread has OP firmly rebuffed that Aus servers would be a waste of resources and money. At the end, they discuss WTF and other ping reducing options.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...h-East-Asia-SE
I'm a bit embarrassed for you here, but it's ok, we can talk about geography. This thread is about SEA - South East Asia. This encompasses countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia who probably represent a far greater population of players than Aus/NZ. It's been discussed a lot if the datacentre would have been better in Singapore, instead of Australia, because we all wondered if this demographic was indeed bigger than Aus/NZ on Tonberry.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...-there-or-stay
Oops, this one is about SEA again. That's a different region.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...for-6.0-Please
Ah a single post with no replies! I guess you got one more.
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...CE-Data-Center
One more thread, what are we on now. 5 threads over 10 years. Good job, you're right, it's been an absolute onslaught of constant asking for an OCE datacentre.
Oh wait, it hasn't.
What is has been about - as mentioned many, many times by YoshiP, is the severe congestion of Tonberry. We saw it at its absolute worst at the start of EW which saw OCE rushed out as soon as they were able to. We know JPN players have been asking for somewhere for Aus/NZ to go to, we know the prevalence of "JP ONLY" groups in PF as well as 6 hour + login times on EW launch has been pushing animosity between the two cultures. Hell, we even know that the reason they walked back their cross-region visits idea, despite saying they could do it, was out of concern for JP players who did not want to play with English speaking communities. I can't remember Yoshi's wording, I'd have to find the post. Cultural differences, perhaps.
We also know that SEA players cannot represent themselves in location data as they have to register as NA or Aus players. SEA pings higher to Australia than Japan so they had zero reason to move.
But all of this has been mentioned already in this discussion that you've skipped over while patting yourself on the back for dealing a "you deserve what you asked for" zinger.
