You might not be far off. Themis implies he's part of a secret organization with Azem that isn't the Convocation. Sounds to me like we might have had our own Scions back in the day. Maybe their actions after the Sundering to protect people and solve problems have them being remembered as The Twelve.

I honestly won't be surprised if the twelve ends up being related to the reason why we never learn what Azem was up to in the Main Storyline. Also, it will give SE a very important plot for the upcoming Twelve Raid for 6.X era thus giving players a reason to play it even when it is long out of date in 7.0 and beyond since it may focus on revealing everything about Azem and what he was doing as part of the plot.

I know where we will go cause I just got last night a fat hint from a Cutscene I watched. Take a look at the Cutscenes with Tiamat and you all will see the next Adventure.

It's occurred to me that we still don't know what exactly the pact Midgarsormr made with Hydaelyn entailed and now that she's gone, the duty of safeguarding the star from major threats seems like it would fall to him and his brood.

I feel like Vrtra is probably going to be important going into the future given that he's the most readily available to keep us on speed dial with the rest of his family and with Tiamat over in Meracydia I think it's just a matter of time before she raises some concerning matters to him and by extension us...assuming Riol doesn't do it first.

At this point I think we can't expect even Midgar to save us if something very bad happened in Season 2 storyline. He is sadly MIA no matter if you did the Omega raid or not.

However, considering the whole "we know so little about the world" thing they may push in Season 2, I won't be surprised if we may discover the world never needed Hydaelyn nor Midgar's protection.

Unlikely, I expect for us to find out there was something else waiting in the wings that would have reared its ugly head and possibly destroyed the world even if Meteion and the Final Days never occurred.

That is not much of a reveal nor surprise since part of the story for Endwalker is that even if Meteion never did what she did, something else would have bring about a world ending event that a group of Heroes would have gone on to stop anyways.

It is how many stories goes in the end even if one story end with a happy one, another event maybe far in the future would have created another world ending event that a new group of Heroes must stop.

In fact, it will also be no suprise if there was another Hero or group of heroes with a different title in the unknown regions that stopped a world event of equal or greater while the entire Season 1 events were happening. Thus dealing with their own antagonists and maybe some unknown evil god as well.

One of the common things about storytelling is that while we focus alot on one Hero or group of protagonist story in the world (for our point of view in this FF14 world is the WoL and Scions), there is often another we don't know about that may have equal or greater consequence if this unknown hero or group failed their mission. We won't care much about this unknown Hero or group but that is often the effect of having not viewed events of their journey because followers of a story are more attached to the characters they know more about than the characters they don't know.

As I said, we only see the world through events of our character and most likely we are not the only Heroes in the world nor the only Hero that can succeed in saving the world. However, that does not mean they follow the same life we have nor are the expect to become just as famous as WoL.

Story is all about perspective of events in the world the story is set in. To believe that WoL is the only Hero, the only Hero who can get anything done, and the only Hero dealing with world doom level threat is the perspective given to us because we only see the world from WoL point of view.

There are no doubt probably many Heroes in the world of FF14 with their own story and preventing their own world ending threat. Whether we learn about it or not is up to the perspective we are given through the story. As Emet said, we know very little about the world from only our little space in Eorzea and this comment is meant for both WoL and us players as our perspective about the world is very limited by only what we experienced through 1.0 to 6.0.

SE has deal with this type of storytelling before as well mostly in their mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. There is always some world ending threat happening that Rain's group is unaware about, become aware about after events already happened, or become aware near the end but these events are prevented because there is always another group of heroes willing to step up to stop these dooms from happening. As for these Heroes becoming famous or not, it is up to them but most of the time they don't due various reasons.

SE is also taking this storytelling again in War of the Vision through the Main Story focusing on the world ending events of the War of the Vision and their new Main Story that happens through Events called Warriors of the Crystal. The Warriors of the Crystal group are dealing with a world ending event of equal or greater threat but they are unlikely going to become famous as Mont's group due to how their events of the story unfolds despite saving the world from a threat equal or greater than Mont's antagonist threat.

the very nature of the story mean they will be failures you can't be a successful hero in a world where only the mc matters :P it's the same reason npcs that are clearly more op then us don't just solve their own problems because if they did there be no point in us playing sure there are most likely notable heroic characters but they will always take a back seat to the wol or only appear in history or their follow warriors of light but not as capable
