They allow you to pay to boost your character to level 90. Disgusting. I hope we don't see something like this in FF14.
If people can't afford the sub fee, then they shouldn't be playing MMOs. You can't afford it, don't pay for it.
If it's a few minions and 1 mount on the cash shop that breaks peoples will to play this game, then that's no real loss in my eyes.
Aye, that's something I do not like, nor do I enjoy. Yet at the same time, I can understand why they did it. Though, in all honesty, I would prefer if they kept that as a expansion month only offer. Brings people back to the game and they get to test out the end game stuff without having to level through 4 expansions to get to it, but close the offer after New years. Though I doubt that'd happen. The door is opened now.Quote:

that is what I would quit over if it was brought into FFXIV.
It's not that they can't afford it. They just need that little push. I have friends who are like "I'd love to play FFXIV, but I'm not sure about the monthly fee".
And then I'm like "It's awesome! Just wait until you fight Ifrit and Titan! And raiding is fun! And chocobos! and Lalafells!"
And they're like "Yeah, but the monthly fee... Hmm..."
And I'm like "It's worth the fifteen dollars! Besides, that's ALL you have to pay for! Oh... wait."

That is all they have to pay for though. They can live without Sleipnir and a random wedding dress.
If they can't, then FFXIV probably isn't the problem.
The thing is, I have friends like that too. Some people are frugal with spending money. They find spending 60 pounds (What, 80 dollars to you US people?) on a game every month/two months is fine. Yet spending 8 pounds/15 dollars a month on an online game is horribly wrong, for some reason. Oh and let me guess, they say: "Man, I can play this game whenever I want to and play it in the future without having to pay"?
Either that, or they'll be like "wtf man 8 pounds a month? Too much money! Now, Be right back, gonna go spend the night in a bar and spend 60 pounds instead and not even remember it!"
Stop trying to encourage them. They'll only play the game and then end up resenting you for making them "waste" money. Trust me on this, life experiences.
Diferences:
1.- All those items are MADE FOR the Cash Shop. The other are account optional services, even the booster, which is more decent than anything in FFXIV anyway.
2.- None of those items belong to an in-game experience.
3.- None of those items generate the feeling of "free" vs "premium" experience.
Level booster is far more "healthy" for a game than the marriage fiasco we are seeing.
I disagree about the level booster and its price is even sillier, but it is Activision after all, which of course still doesn't excuse the double dipping at all but it is what they do best. The one thing I will say is that even they have never taken out items that were initially obtainable in game by doing quests and then were available for purchase the year after with in game currency if you missed the events, and then made them only available in the cash shop, like ARR is doing with past seasonal items. Another thing is they also don't provide paid extra storage on their shop, and of course they don't really have a wedding system to offer something for it. The last thing worth mentioning is other standard MMO services like appearance change, name change, etc. are under their own separate section.
For all intents and purposes, their cash shop is a true vanity only cash shop with just pets, mounts and I guess some helms, or at least was true vanity until the level boost anyway. The level boost also raised the same justified concerns about the possibility of offering stuff like endgame gear, stat boost potions, raid lockout removers, and what not over their own community, with both the same type of defenders and detractors as here or in any other MMO that's implemented a cash shop.
I am willing to play FFXIV as long as its a P2P type, if SE decides to make it a P2W I'd probably will call it a quit and return to alternative offline games.
I also will be considering buying from current FFXIV shop if:
1. BOTs are actually removed asap (I want to see a real effort banning them*)
2. Sold items remain vanity/optional only.
*The cash shop will compensate the missing paying (BOT/RMT) subscriptions. Until I see a good BOT/RMT cleaning, I see my subscription fee is more than enough. I spend hours to make gil while other buys them in 5 min. Sorry, I got carried out of the initial thread.
