What about two other people in your group, who had to wait for other tank or start df again, even when they didn't do anything bad to you?
She had this all typed up on Word. She said if I didn't post it, I wouldn't get dinner today.

The entire group was basically a bad situation that was going to leave no one happy. He just created a domino effect for it.
I get very little aside from DPS who defiantly refuse to switch targets...
But recently when doing Expert Roulette as a SCH, I did have a WAR tank who decided Deliverance without any cooldowns was good enough for big pulls and got himself killed and kicked the healer.
Leveling roulette with a friend, we get Haukke. I'm running WHM and my friend is running NIN, we get another ninja and a paladin. Other NIN is probably someone's alt who only had pugilist and rogue leveled up. Pally looks like a newbie, and can't keep aggro to save his soul. I guess he thought flinging his shield at a mob would draw enmity the best. Fortunately, the ninjas are burning everything down before it becomes a problem. During the run, tank is getting a little better, using flash more than once, but he's focusing on one mob at a time, and used Sprint(!!!) before a couple of pulls. The basement bosses' fight is pretty sloppy and I get aggro from the imp mob while they're burning down the skeleton (I couldn't dps because they bounced enmity around like it was a hacky sack), and I just get the feeling that the succubus at the end is going to suck. Sure enough, all of the adds end up beating on everyone, and I'm pretty sure the pally continued his trend of doing his best to shield lob his way to the top of the enmity lists. Haukke is not the first dungeon in the MSQ, so how can you level up through them as a tank and not know how to play your class/job?
(I think there is a fail topic but I can't remember where so I suppose here will do)
It all started with Expert Roulette; Sohr Khai. The run proceeds just fine up until the last boss. I dropped Tank Stance thinking it was probably okay despite being behind on gear these days - and it was… at least up until a point where I stopped popping cooldowns, distracted by the many mechanics and the belief that you were supposed to kill all of the adds… all of which evidently gave my healer trouble as I eventually died while she was mid-jump - or so it seemed. So we wiped.
I apologised, mostly for the sake of the one random DPS tagging along with us, and returned to the run. Near the end of the second attempt, we were standing on one platform with that floaty dragon head projectile slowly coming right for us. I had no idea what it even did but I figured I’d make a sneaky escape to a platform that was covered in that giant AoE made by the now-untargettable boss right as the graphic disappeared albeit before the animation went off as is the usual… and so I did!
….only to then fall to my death...
So yes, I guess that’s where all of those platforms suddenly start disappearing to ;_; I didn’t realise that the AoE itself shattered them.
Third attempt! I hopped over to a platform on the other side of the map to bring the boss to the DPS who were doing whatever else…. right as they did the same thing. Fail. I better hop back and not make them jump again…. wait, wait they jumped again just now too ;;;;; Okay, I’ll just wait this time for them to jump a third time I guess.... (sorry, DPS).
We eventually beat it.

Weeping City. The two Paladins were in Sword Oath for the first boss so I figured that sign enough to MT for the rest of the raid. At Forgall I wait for the three adds to pop, targetting the other two tanks to see where they would go. One seemed to be sticking to the middle so I thought he was going to take ‘my’ add, the Succubus from me, but once they appeared I realised that he was a bit in between her and the Amdapor-looking boss, so I grabbed the Succubus assuming he would grab the one on the left after all. Then I realised after a couple of moments that he didn’t aggro the four-legged thing and it was running rampage, so I immediately moved to swap over to it before it caused any trouble while doing a figurative eye roll to myself. That was when it hit me…. I was in Alliance A…. it was I, me.... this guy right here who grabbed the wrong add. Now both adds were following me and, in my confusion, I failed to fully turn the conal AoE away from the raid in time.
Messy, but ultimately no harm done. I apologised over alliance chat and continued.
~
Ozma.
I was targetted with one of the meteors and since the other person was rather closeby, it wasn't immediately obvious that they would take the outer route for certain, so I was watching them closely while moving my camera quite a bit since I wanted to be ready to switch just in case, they did though… and in my awkwardness somehow managed to run right off the edge for the very first time ; On top of the previous incident, I felt super bad now, even though I was promptly revived and managed to grab my respective adds without causing any fuss for the other two parties.
Later on, I had three adds on me. I avoid aggro’ing the third so that the other Tank could reclaim it more easily if he wished, but once both of mine die I focus dps on the third. I drop a melee range Plunge on him(for those who don’t play DRK, that’s the gap closer)…......
.......right as the Add suddenly has a change of heart and floats across the great abyss, sending me flying to a cloudy death in the process. Ozma died only moments after but…. still ;
So, crushing shame and embarrassment was on the forecast today.
I'm personally stuck playing BLM in only level 50 content just because I want to use a scepter.
I like the looks of my scepter and since SE so far has not given us the option to glamor a scepter over a staff I'm stick with an i95 weapon, thus limit myself to level 50 content.
There's even a thread asking for the ability to glamor 1h mage arms onto 2h mage arms...

As you stated you are new to this game, I would like to point out to you, that for DPS (in this game), queues are VERY long depending on the type of dungeons they are queueing for. For tanks, queues are almost instant but for DPS they go up to 30mn if not an hour even more before they can enter any place. So, when they get in and a tank leaves right in the middle for them is a net loss and is from the tank (any doing so really other then if they really really suck and go beause of that reason which I do at times rarely but I do which then would be the right thing to do) a really unconsiderate and very disrespectful way of going about towards those players that were there with you. I am not saying your reasons are wrong but I am saying that before you leave as you did you mind want to think that in your group you are a key player a DPS is easely replaced there are lots of them but there arent as many tanks around. So as it looks like your going, had them probably requeue as no tanks queued in progress and they had to wait again a long time, when they were not guilty of anything. Some responsability comes with the role you choose.
I am sure you didnt know all that it implies but now that you know, I hope that next time you will take this into consideration before just going(I know is just a hope and yeah I believe people can act as person rather then being affected by the *either my way or none* attitude) To be fair, there are lots of people out there that act just like you, and each time it annoys me to no end.No offence meant of course not.
Also to say that the *whole group* was bad is kind of strange to hear....was it really so or is that you finding a justification to you going ?. (I dont need an answer to this)
Good luck in your game experience.
I use the level 50 rotation when down to a single mob, on trash pulls. When it's 3 or more, I use the level 50 AoE rotation. Trash mobs die too fast to bother busting out Enochian/Ley Lines/Raging Strikes and risking having it on cooldown when we run into the boss, not to mention it's annoyingly easy to lose Enochian when your targets die so fast.
That said, a properly-executed lvl. 50 BLM rotation should be enough to at least secure more aggro than a healer, especially an AST in Noct.
Now for today's story. Expert Roulette as BLM. Hullbreaker Isle HM.
Tank is a WAR with 21k HP base. Obviously, not super-geared for the dungeon. But I've tanked Hullbreaker Isle AND Sohr Khai just fine as a PLD with comparable gear levels, even with DPS and healers who considerably outgeared me. This information will, of course, be important in this story.
The DPS are me and a BRD, I'm at an ilvl of 233, while the BRD is definitely 240+. The AST is also 240+.
For some infernal reason, this WAR keeps insisting on doing the biggest pulls possible, despite their suboptimal gear. When they die attempting to pull the 4 gorillas and cat after the Sirens fight(without a cooldown, and they may have switched into Deliverance), the healer gets insulted, of course. Unsurprisingly, the healer just goes offline, gets booted, and we get an equally well-geared replacement.
Since giant pulls are not possible after the gorillas, the WAR lives without comment. All up until Mistbeard, when the WAR decides it's a fine idea to pull in Deliverance. I ripped aggro off them. What was the mystical, epic DPS combo that stole aggro off this oh-so-amazing WAR, you ask? Why, a single Fire and Fire III. Clearly, this is such epic DPS that it should be nerfed.
Now, does this WAR, upon losing aggro, switch into Defiance to re-establish aggro? Oh, hells no. Of course not. That would be something only an intelligent, competent tank does. No, instead it's alllllllllllll my fault for not using Quelling Strikes. Because Quelling Strikes would solve all our problems when this WAR refused to switch to Defiance, and lost aggro to a single Fire and Fire III.
I had to tank Mistbeard for a solid minute because this dumbass tank didn't understand the concept of tanking.
If a tank is doing their best, staying in tank stance and doing all they can to keep aggro, and still struggling anyway because I do too much damage, I will help them. I will do my best to keep my DPS low enough for them to manage, if they are truly making an effort.
If a tank just wants to screw around in Deliverance/Darkside/Sword Oath and do a half-assed job at tanking, while blaming me for doing my job, they can go to hell. I will help people who care about doing their jobs right. I refuse to help idiot DPS who queue as tanks for quick queues.
Tales from the World's Okayest Warrior on her way to Grandmaster of War - we've reached critical Nidhogg Velocity. I've had three parties made entirely of level 60s today, so I skipped the sleeping dragons thinking that these people would appreciate the few minutes saved. I guess they did, I walked out with 7 out of 9 possible commends.
That last run had a newbie WHM (on level 60, mind), so I cranked out my secret Mentor (I don't run around with the crown because I really don't want to be associated with The Average Bad Mentor), and gave 'em a few pointers. Sprinkled in a bit of healing advice because I've brought every healer through this dungeon (many don't realise the poison can't be dispelled even after using their dispell a few times, haha). They actually took that advice, that warmed my heart a little because they did so well.
The bard, on the other hand, never once used Minuet. Okay? The MCH under Gauss did some insane damage, the run wasn't that much longer than the average Aery? Although they cut it close because both Sables targetted them and Cleric-less WHM and Minuet-less BRD just BARELY freed them both times (I don't wanna turn good old 'Nog on them, hence why I couldn't do much, y'see)
Last night.
I sign up and get in a group for The Howling Eye. It was my first time there, as well as the first for everyone else in the group. Because of that we died 5 times before killing the boss. But that was not the horror for me.
I only just recently figured out about using the The Unending Journey book in the inn to watch past cutscenes. So I hit skip for all the movies and after the fight immediately run to the inn to find out what is happening in the story.....it's not in the damn book. I have to run it again.
The next time was so much quicker. Only a fraction of the time the first fight took. I knew to tank the boss with her facing away from the rock piles this time. And the dps there knew to go after the feather adds. Of-course while I watched the movie, two people in the group complained about having to wait on me and the other person who was watching the cutscenes. One saying how the scenes in this game are way too long. And the other asking us to skip and using the book in the inn to watch it later. I did not bother to tell him I tried already.
But even tho I was able to see 2 of the scenes that I skipped, the 3rd one at the end when you zone out for the first time where it has voice audio and introduces the Ultima Weapon...that I had to watch on youtube.
EDIT
I just figured out how to switch chapters in the book to see all the cutscenes.

The "group" was bad. Not the individual players. We had a dps that was in a rush and had a smart mouth, and a tank who was not in the mood to put up with any nonsense.
The group was doomed from the start.
I get what are you are saying, but to be honest...I'm not spending time and money on this game for other people. I play for me.
Nope, because most tank don't queues with the in progress option mainly because their queues are fast. I know, I don't. I don't want to end up in a "Damaged" party already, I prefer my chance with a new party. But to be honest I just always forget to check the box before queueing as Tank. Most DPS I know will check it and will hope to get a faster queue. The in progress option is not by default! A tank or a healer leaving a party always cause more damage then a DPS for that reason. The in progress option is not by default!
It's insta queues for Tanks and Healers cause most parties in the queues are waiting for a tank or a healer rarely a dps. The queue is long for DPS because there is so many of them in queues that there is never enough healer/tank to empty the queue at a good pace.
Supply and demand. You know why the wait queues for DPS are so long? That's because there are a thousand other DPS ahead of the queue in them. Kick a DPS and you'll likely get an instant replacement.
Why are the wait queues for tanks/healers so short? Because there are very few tanks/healers willing to queue. Kick a tank from the group and you're likely to spend another hour just hoping another tank will queue, AND have checked the "in-progress" box.
Also, the people who believe that they can play this MMO as a single-player game, refusing to give other people any consideration whatsoever, just shouldn't be playing this game.
yes provided they queue in progress (meaning they thick the box) which is rare they dont need to use that since they can enter a place instant without going through in-progress.
I wish it was true and we had more tanks queueing in-progress some dungeons is the case but is soo rare.
Us tanks are rare commodities :P Most people play as DPS. As you've likely noticed by now, there's a lot of pressure on tanks in general in this game to be DPS as well as tanks. Tanks are also easily blamed for things (as are healers as well) and overall, people prefer to push out higher damage numbers in general rather than play as a tank. So because there are considerably less tanks than DPS, our queue's are practically instant. Try playing a DPS sometime and you'll notice you'll be sitting on some queue's for an hour. I honestly hate solo queuing as a DPS for this very reason.
While it is nice for a tank to try to be considerate of his entire party, I will also say, that DPS in your party was a jerk... Kicking him would likely of been the better option, but I don't necessarily blame you for leaving either. And in lower level dungeons, if your healer is not a WHM, they may not have protect as one of their 1st cross classes and it might of gotten cut off. So honestly, having a tank that has it is usually a great thing. Dunno where that LNC was even coming from with his statement.
First - you casting protect is not wrong, the healer MAY Be one those that think protect is not necessary, but to you it is...
Second - DPS pull is not kewl, I play both DPS and Tank. As a DPS, I never run in front or pull for tanks, don't need to cause usually I would still be able to melt things down even if I don't pull. If tanks wait super long then you call out their name to see if they're afk, cause that's not kewl to go afk w/o saying a word.
As a tank, if a DPS pulls for me, I'd ask them to stop, because I'd end up using more resources than what's needed. Though if I feel like being lazy that day, then they could pull all they want cause if I lose hate, it's not my problem. I've got times when I asked them to stop pulling and they stop DPSing all together...
I don't consider leaving disrespectful, cause you already told them to stop and they says otherwise. Also, you end up no different than them waiting or re-queue by taking penalty for not wanting to get ban by having a heated argument.
I was amused yesterday when I queued into AK normal mode. LVL 60 Mentor PLD, sprout 52ish DRG, a BLM and myself as a WHM leveling at 56. The PLD switches between multiple pulls and small pulls with a random assortment of buffs (Hallowed Ground + Sentinel popped at same time??? Ok I won't question it).
I spend most of my time in CS holying or killing things. He doesn't stun the summoners so I'm guessing he wants the added exp... for us since he's 60. Cool.
In the middle of trash, DRG asks about anything to be aware of for bosses. I mention they got nerfed so he only needs to worry about aoes and that repel knocks you back on Demon Wall so don't get knocked off. This becomes important, I forgot to mention that you need to be in the middle for the knockback. I also mention imminent catastrophe and tail swipe for the last boss but those are meaningless as I can heal through them.
That important bit? Both the DRG and the BLM get knocked off by repel cause they stayed on the side. Oops. I add that important bit belatedly while tank and I finish the wall off.
What gave me giggles is the lvl 60 PLD mentor say (after I belatedly amend my tip for demon wall):
"im a vet lol
and a mentor
sooooo"
So i guess no tips from him to help? XD
Had Sunken Temple of Qarn, leveling roulette.
Myself as Ninja, a Machinist, Scholar, and Paladin. Paladin is a sprout and it's his first time there.
The good news is that he knew the mechanics for each boss.
But the bad news is that he couldn't generate enmity at all. And his fingers must have been slipping all over his keyboard because he was moving really strangely and doing strange actions.
Like, he marked one of tablets as Target to Attack 1, and then himself as Target to Attack 2. And he left it that way for the entire run.
And then he would mark the first target at "Target to Attack 5", but then he's attack another one.
He ignored the bees completely and couldn't get enmity on them. And most of the other mobs.
So I felt like a ninja tank.
I purposefully didn't even use Blood for Blood or Internal Release, just to try not to take pull aggro from him. Also tried using Aeolin Edge from the side, instead of from the back, to reduce damage. But it still didn't work.
He was using Flash, but I guess the problem was mostly his gear.
And there isn't much you do about that during the dungeon.
I think the only reason there wasn't a vote kick is because he was a beginner and it was his first time there.
Everyone was really patient and didn't say anything though.
I wish I had leveled a tank so I could give some advice. But I haven't. So I felt, even if I gave advice, I'm not in a good position to do so. I have no experience tanking. I felt really useless.
At the end he apologized for being a beginner. I didn't know what to say to him. I felt maybe it was too easy to get to Qarn without first mastering skills.
I felt really conflicted.
Could have been gear. Could have been moveset as well. Was he spamming flash? Do you know if he was using Rage of halone? (that attack is a five-slash so you can hear the attack difference)
I'd met a PLD who was using one flash and Riot blade and it didn't do anything. Level 55 Sprout in the same dungeon. His aggro got better when I suggested he used RoH combo instead of Riot Blade combo along with flash.
When he didn't use RoH, aggro issues re-occurred.
Lv 60 one day last week. Went into Antitower and had a bonus message for a new dragoon (assumed.) Healer casts protect on the party and with no word both healer and tank leave. -_- Ended up getting a tank queued in progress shortly after that and was able to get someone to queue in progress as a healer. But before that...no pulls, no progress, just protect and poof. Why even cast protect.
I was helping my boyfriend level his monk and we got Brayflox from leveling roulette. The tank is severely undergeared and was only wearing lvl 20s gear. I had a hard time keeping him alive and both the DPS suffered slightly because if I heal one of them, the tank takes so much damage. Eventually, my boyfriend vote kick the tank before we reached the second boss and he reque'd as a tank. I never felt so bad because he was trying to level his DPS at the time.
This one, we were in Cutter's Cry. He went with his bard that he was leveling as well. We got a tank - a level 40 Gladiator. No lvl 15 CNJ or anything else. Tank just runs around and attacks one target at a time. Doesn't flash or anything. She kept getting one shot every time I try to heal one of the DPS. This one, I had to leave as a healer and reque as a tank. Thankfully the other DPS knows a healer who can help us.
I also have a habit of running instances around 3am during the weekend. I got Stone Vigil with another very undergeared tank. First pull, he died. Twice. And I thought I was doing something wrong until the DPS checked the tank gears and one of them opted to kick the tank. I was still a newbie healer at the time and I had to call my boyfriend and wake him up just so he can tank it for us. It was a little rough because he was half asleep but other wise, much smoother than the other tank who kept getting one shot at.
I am eternally cursed with getting bad tanks from DF. Unless I have my boyfriend tanking for me.
Holy ****. I've ranted about this before, but I have to bring it up again: WHAT HAPPENED TO RAMUH HM?!?! How are so many people having trouble with it now?! It was fine, but it somehow got worse over time. There's like barely 3 machanics during the fight.
1. If you see something that isn't Ramuh, just go ahead and kill it. I know some people like to ignore the 2nd group, but for the sake of simplicity, just go ahead and kill anything you see ASAP.
2. Zoom your freaking camera out. I know you really like the way your character looks, but this one is important. For once, you need to be a team player. If you see someone get single-targetted by Chaotic Strike, prepare to run over to them if you get targeted by Thunderstorm. Better yet, just stop anything you're doing and just go stand next to that person just so you don't forget. The 2-3 seconds of precious dps you lose is not worth "losing" a party member for 40 seconds (or however long it is).
3. Leave the freaking orbs alone. This is why I say there are barely 3 mechanics. You literally don't have to do anything if you are not tethered. Just stand there. Keep punching Ramuh for all I care. Just leave the orbs alone. If you are tethered, either you are the person you're tehtered to should pick up 3 orbs. Since the person you're tethered to probably isn't paying attention. It's up to you to save the day. You learned how to count to 3 when you were a child. It's not that hard. This is your moment. Just do it. "But why is this so important?" BECAUSE WHEN YOU ARE TETHERED, YOU TAKE DAMAGE WHENEVER YOUR PERFORM ANY ACTION. Did you think your health was just magically disappearing? Did you think that tether was for show? Explain it to me, Between the BRIGHT BLUE ELECTRIC TETHER attached to your character, the bright red/orange/black status symbol, and the fact that you're magically losing health anything you do anything, at what point did you decide "meh, probably don't need to pay attention to that." Tell me. I have to know.
For the strike its easier to just plant "A" on the ground and tell em whoever gets it to run in. Lot more noticeable to me to see someone in there rather than the icon or the target on em.
you have not seen how they struggle STILL in Ex form. The reason is quite simple, people dont play as a group but rather in a group and dont pay attention to others or what is required all they are interested is to make the more damage and hell with the rest. For tanks at least in Ex form, they think they can resist Ramuh's attack just by taking the hit, despite being told to take the buff (they cant count to 3) and often then not they end up with 6 aka 3 overcharge and they die....shrug...Is fun nevertheless
He only used flash once at the beginning of each fight. And he didn't use Rage of Halone. (Never saw a 3-slash attack).
When the enmity bar was getting close to his, I would switch to another mob to avoid pulling aggro, but it was really tough.
Now that I know what Rage of Halone is, I'm in a better position to offer advice. Thank you!
Nothing like that one Expert run where every chests drops nothing but Prophet stuff, and this WHM needs every single bloody pieces of it despite the said WHM has every gears at 230+.
That's cool, it's not like I wanted to level up my leatherworker or GSM desynth to 220 anyway.
Fuck RNG and fuck the Gordias/Midas loot rules.
I will just say, RoH is actually a 5-fold attack (4 quick slashes followed by one really big and obvious downward slash that has a really noticeable effect). The first two in the combo (Fast Blade and Savage Blade) are a quick back-and-forth diagonal slash, and a single spinning slash, respectively. Riot Blade (MP restore) is a stab.
Basically, PLD enmity combo is: Fast Blade (2x quick slashes) >> Savage Blade (spinning slash) >> Rage of Halone (5-fold attack with a really noticeable final hit).
As long as you actually need it for whatever reason does it matter be it for glamour(which is what all gear is regardless of level), desynth or seal turn in. If someone actually opens up their mouth and says I need X item then I will pass otherwise I will greed or need items. Also the amount of people that actually greed or need ex items is low, plenty of times I don't bother doing either and still get the items.
I personally operate under the principle of, if you only need it because you plan to sell it or destroy it (desynth), then that's greed because you don't actually need the item itself, just what an NPC will pay for it or what you could get from destroying it, and you should roll greed accordingly. I also take a similar view on glamour, because you don't need the item itself, just its appearance... however I am generally alright if they roll need on a glamour item provided there's no-one in the party who may actually need it for a class they are leveling.
Rolling need is only alright in my books if the item in question is a direct upgrade to what you already have, and as such need the piece of gear for what it is; a better piece of gear. Rolling need just because you want to sell or destroy an item is not fair on anyone else who may actually legitimately need it.
While leveling you don't need any dungeon drops.. just buy every few levels the normal lvling gear pieces you're missing for 10-12k gil the piece, that's all you need.
Weaver/Leatherworker/Armorer above the level of the current battle class? He can craft gear, if he needs it.
Why should I pass on an priceless glamour (since I can't get easily anything comparable) I'm maybe looking for since 10 runs, just so the levelling person can safe a few thousand gil or 10 minutes crafting... he'll be on the next dungeon after 2-3 runs, again needing new stuff and throwing away the old one, while I might have to do another 10 to just see the drop a second time?
And then, maybe pass it again to someone who can't be bothered to upgrade his gear once after hitting 50, except getting some dungeon gear. No thanks.
