How to Dragoon Per Second: A DPS Paradigm

I really think for gearing options people should learn the answer for themselves.

I don't mean that to be facetious, I mean "here, I'll teach you how to make the decision yourself". Dervy doesn't know any more about the gear than you do, given the information in this thread.

1. You can find all the values of stats on gear etc from Ariyala and other resources.
2. You can calculate your own stat weights, or use the ones in this thread.
3. You can then figure out the values of these weights, divide by the esoteric cost, to find the most efficient upgrades.
4. You then should look at whether or not it is BiS, and whether or not you feel it is likely you will be able to earn or get to drop similar upgrades from savage.

Really it just seems lazy :<

Chest is brilliant if you need Accuracy, a lot of it.

It's just more efficient. On top of that, the more people who actually provide this information, the more they can swap knowledge which can result in better data which can then be shared, and reduces time wasted. If everyone is doing their own thing and not sharing (because why share if everyone is expected to do it themselves?), knowledge growth is diminished. It's basically the equivalent of saying that people shouldn't make EX Primal guides. All the knowledge share is doing is reducing wasted time.

In the end, of course, unless you are doing Alexander Savage it doesn't matter one bit WHAT you buy first, as every other piece of content is easily doable regardless of how close you are to BiS. My own personal goals revolve mostly around glamour. Which is why I'm going:

Weapon -> Belt -> Body -> Boots -> Gloves -> Head -> Pants. Reasoning? Body -> Boots -> Gloves makes up the majority of your visible glamour.

This statement seems a little contradictory.. But maybe you mean people doing their own thing without sharing. Not trying to fan the flames but I'd just like to say the more time a person with the knowledge and expertise such as Dervy spends answering questions, the less time he has to contribute new findings. Nothing wrong with reading a few pages to see if your question has already been answered or being given the methodology to find the answer yourself. Experts need time to do experty things after all. Dervy is the face of the franchise, so to speak, but many people here are able to answer questions and provide insight.

I'm in near full 190 (200 weapon, 180 legs/ring), and I'm at 575 accuracy. Upgrading to the belt would be a loss of 36 accuracy. Upgrading to the necklace is another 36 accuracy loss. Helm is another 47 accuracy loss.

Not having the prototype legs (I went for the chest first, and took the wrong drop on an A3, so I can't get 190 legs until next week) puts me a 54 accuracy deficit, and the 200 legs won't have accuracy on them anyway.

For me, it looks like going boots and ring might be the best route, as that will bring me to 601 accuracy, and with baked pipira pira, I should be pretty good for accuracy.

Alternatively, if I get the 190 legs next week, I can go boots + belt, which puts me at 613 accuracy, or I can go for belt+ body + helm, which puts me at 632 accuracy and 625 skill speed. Unfortunately, the body has so much accuracy that it's probably not worth equipping until I have all three of those pieces.

Hmm, what to do.

As far as I guess I'll call it "expert prioritization" goes, it depends on whether he was going to make those calculations *anyways.* Most of the time it's stuff he is figuring out because, well, he also wants to know for himself as well. It honestly doesn't take much extra time to write stuff down usually. Obviously the long-form explanation of the rotation and such on the first couple posts is a different story (I'm sure with editing/clarifying/updating it took a good chunk of time) but most other things are just posting the bare-bones results of stuff he was finding out anyway.

Also: you aren't fanning any flames :) This is a pretty civil discussion I'm personally finding.

Nono, you're both right. But it's precisely why I don't answer questions like that, as I simply don't know them. Gearing is something that is very personal. I can only say "Hey, this is optimal, this gives X DPS!!", but that's it. I can't offer personal advice, only stuff that's "broad"

The only upgrade order that can remotely be considered universal is only for people who don't and won't raid. Because then you don't have accuracy concerns or a random drop element messing with it.

Otherwise you're potentially getting (and, next week at the earliest, buying) drops, which conspires along with accuracy to create a chaotic system.

I am just a jerk who is here to point out jerk things to people.

I haven't done my job if someone isn't offended.

I mention doing the stat stuff yourself because in the long run it will make you a better player. Perhaps more questioning motivations behind optimizations instead of blindly listening to what may be an erroneous suggestion. Doing so encourages discussion and that leads to better performance all around.

Like I say for my sim, I love it when people say stuff like "this is stupid and wrong" because it is far more useful than "yes-men" commentary.

Can you tell me how much DPS you guys do on A1 Savage boss?
