The question is:

If SF is at 7 seconds (1 second away from ticking) and I refresh shadow fang, back to 18. Is it now still 1 second away from ticking (duration simply extended) or is 3 seconds away from ticking (duration refreshed + tick timer refreshed (dot clipping)).

The former. You'd still be one second away from ticking, so it is only a duration extension.

So essentially you just lose some potential potency by refreshing "early".

Dots actually tick by server timer. Regardless of when it was applied.
So your first tick can be 0.5 sec away or 2.5 sec away from cast time - it depends when relatively to server timer you applied dot. All dots tick at the same time.
Refreshing dot just refresh cutoff time after which server ticks will not produce dot damage.

So what are you guys aiming for in this first week from Alex and on.

Clearing Alex

Done clearing Alex, I think I will farm this week till I get the chest, seems by far the best option, legs suck, I took bracelet as free acc.

You only get 1 loot drop per floor and only the last boss drops chest afaik. so you will have to wait 4 weeks for it.
