No wai, the strings on a banjo are much closer together, absolutely not like on the image.
I mean look at the spacing between the 4 strings ... it's a UKULELE.
You know it, and you love it!

tranformers, harps in disguise.
i heard the big ax turns into a stand up base.
Or it's just a new instrument concieved by SE.
If chocobo's came out for the first time ever. And people would argue about it like they do now about this "harp" saying stuff like"NO ITS NOT A CHICKEN!, look at the beak!"
It could be something new all together that they just made up.
One thing's for sure, it is most likely some kind of music device.
In fact you're all mistaken, can't you see this outside of the lens of musical instruments ? Jobs are meant to be for aiding in parties, and what better way to aide your comrades in battle than be cooking up some tasty morsels on the fly!
That is obviously a portable grill attached to that bow! I would sure love me some grilled dodo while chasing down thems beastmen! mmm mmm
I just had an apostrophe!
It's been confirmed as a transformer, but who ever said it only had one transformation?!‽ I've come to realise our folly.
It's a bow.
It transforms primarily into a ukulele.
It can also transform into a grill. But what are you going to grill, I ask?
This is the big secret. It can also transform into a gill net for catching sharks!
Genius SE. Make this happen, please.
It's definitely a bass guitar, jugding by size of strings.
It transforms into a trumpet guys >.>
Make it a saxophone weapon, it has been done!

I thought the same when I first saw it - the part about it being a dagger and some sort of string instrument on the bow itself.
I have thought for a while that the way they might implement advanced jobs within the current weapon locked armory system is to allow you to dual wield. The combination of weapons would result in a transformation of a GLD to a Paladin, for example. It looks like the Paladin weapon is also a two part weapon - a smaller sword melded together with a larger blade, forming the huge weapon he is holding. It could also just be his sword is overlapping a very thin and pointy shield though. We'll have to wait and see.
On another note - I don't understand why it would be so horrible for ARC to be tied to Bard. After all in FFXI, Bards were one of the most sought after pulling jobs. Like to pull with arrows and deal damage? You went with Ranger. Like to pull with songs and provide party support? You played Bard. Why is this considered such a stretch here?
Uh... that's definitely a shield lol.
So because you are capable of pulling with both RNG and BRD in XI, that makes the jobs similar?Quote:

Sorry but no. The reason it's such a stretch is because Archer and Bard are completely opposite ends of the spectrum. Everything else regardig the jobs makes sense. LNC to DRG. PGL to MNK. Etc. Archer to Bard makes zero sense. It's wielding 2 completely different things that are wildly unrelated, which is part of the reason that weapon looks so ridiculous. It's also mixing 2 roles that a lot of players are going to dislike having mixed. If their goal is to be a support class, aka Bard, 99% of players are going to be uninterested at best in playing Archer.
And beyond all that... it's just a dumb and lazy idea, dude. They're obviously trying to squeeze a job into a class where it doesn't belong because the Armoury system is so rigid.
Plus, what other weapons are we going to see for a "barcher?" A bowcarina? A pianbow? A blute? Or is it only gonna be harp-bows?
It's just silly.
No, just because a job can pull not make it the same, I agree with that. However, since the playerbase clearly placed the Bard job in FFXI in the pulling role, and archer is realistically the only class we have in FFXIV that is a clear pulling job, it made sense to me that SE might have thought the two would go well together. And who says Archer is suddenly a support class just because it might unlock the Bard class?
Also, claiming that 99% of the players will be uninterested in playing ARC if is tied to BRD is quite a broad statement and one not based on facts. This heated debate is clearly very much in two camps - those players for and those who are against the idea. Plenty of players who currently play ARC will be OK with the class being tied to the Bard job.
If they had asked me, I would have preferred to see Corsair, Musketeer, or even Thief tied to ARC instead of BRD, even though I loved playing as a bard in XI.
Oh and for the record, I am not a dude.
Bard became a pulling class in XI out of necessity because most of the time in a camp, it was better for the other members of the party to be there when a mob arrived. They didn't make it a pulling job because it was designed to be. Also, the necessity of pulling was much more extreme in XI than it is in XIV, and by the way, any job can pull in XIV with Smoothed Stones or any number of ranged abilities which are far more common than in XI.
Also, using the argument that both jobs were capable of pulling in XI as the reason they could go together, amounts to FAR less than the multitude of reasons it's stupid for them to go together.
I will concede that 99% might be a little high of an estimate. But I would still strongly argue that the vast majority of players who say "I would love to play Bard" will not also say "I would love to play Archer." Again, they are complete opposite ends of the spectrum for what play style one wants to have.Quote:

Aaaaaaand here we reveal the real issue with what they have done. The way you feel, is the way most people are going to feel. Sure, they might be OK with Bard being tied to Archer. But, they would have preferred it be any number of other things, which makes what they have done a poor choice.Quote:

Apologies, dudette.(presumably)Quote:

There is almost no pulling in FFXIV. Who cares if bard pulled? Irrelevant.
What have they done to my beloved Dragoon...................
My favorite two FF classes, Thief and Dragoon... When I heard Thief wasn't in the first wave of jobs I though "Oh well, at least I have Dragoon to fall back on"... But now.... I'm stuck looking like a Dark Knight? I mean, Dark Knights are cool and all..... But they're not Dragoons...... ;-;
Haha, I know Dragoons are typically pretty dark but... I'm just upset because looking at that armor, it looks like they took ZERO inspiration from Dragoons and went 100% Dark Knight with it... They could've at least changed the helmet a bit, or made it a really dark purple color instead of just black...
My guess is the only real relation to the Dragoon, the FFXIV job is going to have is a Jump ability. :/ Then mostly Dark Knight-esque stuff.
I maintain that the Dragoon only looks like a dark knight because he's shadowed to shit back there. It looks like he's in a dark violet armor with a huge horned helmet and awesome dragon-like back-spikes, and he's about to land a high-velocity jump and put pretty much this EXACT halberd right through something's face.
WHAT ABOUT THAT ISN'T EPIC?
You people, man... sometimes.... [shakes little lalafell fist in rage] ... not so much into taking a long, analytical look at things.
EDIT:
I REPEAT: It's probably not a scythe.

Yeah, but we've already SEEN the concept art for that armor a long time ago... And from the looks of the magazine, it hasn't changed at all(and neither has the Black Mage one).
Here it is: http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/to...bbb8b730bb6677
And for kicks, Black Mage: http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/to...d05abbe05968ef
Now compare the concept art I linked to, to these pics...

Screaming Dark Knight to me.
This is... bad? I get that he's kinda taken the DRK thing away with such deep purples and blacks, but it looks very dragon-ey to me. More dragon-ey than bright, solid purple at least. (excepting, of course, Spyro.)
I think it's kind of an improvement... especially the bone under the metal armor. That's beautiful. I imagine DRK will see some changes as well, if DRG looks like this, so I bet he's a tad more... evil.
I dunno, Kain is pretty sharp and pointy: http://vgfanart.com/snes/ff4/Dragoon%20Kain_jetzero.jpg
You're right about the helmet though.
WHOA, lol. That just fan art though... xD
Let's look at a more recent official model..
http://www.scenicreflections.com/fil...aper_uvwts.jpg
A little pointy, but not blades sticking out of back/shoulders pointy, which again, is akin to the Dark Knight...
But whatever. Guess I'll just have to wait till they make a Thief job or something. :[
Haha, you just reminded me of some of the Dragoon concept art for FFIX...
http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy...an_Dragoon.jpg
So we're getting the same old boring armors that have been in the franchise for so many years?
...What.
How about some...new designs please? I wanted to play FF14. Not "Nostalgia of all the old-school FFs".
Because people were QQing about this game not having the "FF tradition".
Those "blades" sticking out of his back might just be the skeletal frame of dragon wings...Or be a symbol of the Dragon's wings. Also in the OFFFICIAL CONCEPT ART, there is a little purple in the armor (near the bottom of it), what more do you people need to make it a DRG? Its just like Kain's original armor, blackish with hints of purple, and dark looking.
Wtf is that? As far as I'm aware FF games were supposed to tell a different story each time and the only real recurring things were like chocobos and shit.
I guess squall was a deathknight in disguise and wore his artifact armor under his unique and highly-identifiable coat.
I'm going to assume its going to be a litte more along the lines of multiple classes. Probably one of which is THM.
I actually could see it being THM+LNC, as people seem to prefer a scythe. So I wouldnt doubt we'd see a polearm adapted to fit that way of thinking, such as the hotly debated bow-harp.
EDIT:
THM+LNC+MRD seems like a legit way to build it. MRD and LNC gives your weapons and THM gives your magicks.
I want to see a Greatsword class that become dark knight (screw the scythe, its such a horrible weapon, logically anyway).
My Lulu was a White mage, and Khimari was my Black Mage... (there were no jobs in that game is my point)
