I didn't know requesting an effect change was a war. Thank you for your wisdom.

Never give up!
FIXITFIXITFIXITFIXITFIXITFIXIT...FIXITFIXITFIXIT..... FIX IT.
Your excuse on making the current effect is a joke PUT BLACK FLAMES ON OUR FEET IF ANYTHING.
Also I'm not trying to be rude here Zhexos but lately I only see you as a person who just passes things on or give this half awnser to stuff. Instead of giving any sort of true response or any for that matter sure you respond more than the others but id rather wait a month to hear from one of them on this stuff. Than hear your short replies of well look into it or ill pass it along.
Again not trying to be rude I know your new but please give more of a respond than this. I already and others feel too that our opinions and problems are less important than on the Japanese forums compared to the English forums the fact that there's over 20 RMT threads and not one dev comment or remark feels proof to this so I do love that you respond to more stuff here but we need more than these half answer responses when we already gave plenty of ideas on how to resolve them. Like with the darkside effect.
I like the one I linked. Its like the ascian one and they fly all over the place and the effect is fine. Just use the one in the original Post.
Fixing the bug where hiding visual effects does not hide this visual effect is totally unrelated to whether or not they decide to change the aura's graphics. There are (at least) two separate issues here that people are complaining about: (1) the aura graphics, which are causing people headaches and migraines, are unable to be disabled even though there is an option that is supposed to hide all such graphics, and (2) the aura looks terrible and not at all what was advertised. Yes, fixing (2) would likely fix the migraine/headche portion of (1), but it wouldn't fix the fact that there's a bug that prevents the graphic from being correctly hidden.
(1) is a bug. (2) is a design decision (arguably a terrible one, but still, a design decision). No one at SE went "Hey, let's make this one specific aura totally ignore the graphics option that's supposed to hide it!" But, we have been explicitly told that someone did say, "Hey, let's use this [ugly, irritating, out of place] graphic for the DRK Darkside aura instead of the [really awesome] one from the trailer!" (my additions in []). Changing the first one is not a decision anyone has to make - it's a bug, it'll be fixed. Changing the second one though is a design change. That almost certainly goes through an entirely unrelated process where a bunch of other execs/designers/etc have to weigh in on it and sign off on it if it's going to happen.
The community rep basically said, yes, we acknowledge that (1) is a bug and it will be addressed. The community rep's response does not address (2) at all, which isn't a change from before, and they likely do not have the authority to even comment on design changes (beyond saying "We have relayed your feedback to the design team.").
Also, to be honest, this topic is only about (1). It's right there in the topic's title: "Darkside Aura hurts my eyes. Can't turn it off." The community rep choosing to stay on topic is kind of totally okay, imo... There are plenty of other threads about (2). They have not yet been responded to.
Back to the first page. Please change the aura SE.
If your eyes hurt from looking at a gentle waves light then you should go to the doctors. That's not the effect giving you health issues that's you having health issues that normal people don't have, that's not SE fault. There are way more intense effects in this game that could cause more serious issues like sezures or something.
Complain about the effect, say it's annoying, intrusive, ugly to look at but if your eye balls literally hurt, like feel pain, from looking at that then that's your own issue. And I have also never heard of anyone seeing the dark side effect and throwing up because of it. Again I call bs. Or if that's happening to you that's not normal
That's like saying you get a headache looking at water so they should remove all water from the game for the few people that that happens to.
Like I said, if the other effects bother us, we can turn them off. Not so with Darkside. So, yes, it's Square's fault, and the player's fault for leaving it on in towns and standing around like an idiot.
"That's like saying you get a headache looking at water so they should remove all water from the game for the few people that that happens to." - Are you just trying to sound ignorant? You can turn down/off the effects of water. And if anyone's complaining about the water hurting them, it's probably just hyperbole relating to how it's full of weird blocky textures.
bump. this change actually needs to happen.
Bump. More characters for post minimum.
Bump! Hiding the effects is nice and all but getting the lvl 50 aura would be much more better >:( We're not asking for the flashy black flames anymore just the effects that are already ingame.
Have you ever tried to use a market board with three Dark Knights hanging around? One day they'll get an obnoxious blue aura too, and then they can hang out pretending to be police sirens.
Whenever I work on leveling my DRK, I ALWAYS turn the aura off in town. It's just common courtesy!
The problem with that aura is it's far too dense. Think I summed up the problem here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...lames-are-LOVE!
It would smother the visual detail of a lot of gear a bit too much. That Aura would be far better as an aura that Walking Dead gives. It would follow your characters Drk story as well.
People are missing the point with that Lv50 quest. SE can't give us that aura because it breaks the lore to that quest. They would have to give us a completely different one. That aura is a pure evil aura which you guys know that SE isn't really about antagonist main characters. Getting that aura means succumbing to the evil to overtake your body to do nothing but kill kill kill.
And the skill is called darkside. Did you see the Emperor from Star Wars gain a ridiculous red fart cloud when he brought out his lightning? Granted, he gets no aura at all, but the point is that the darkside was the "kill kill kill" side of the force. When dark knights activate it, they should get something that reflects that they've succumbed to darkness. Red fart clouds are not darkness. As for Esteem's aura smothering armour, our current aura smothers the screen.
Yeah, but our characters don't kill unless it's to defend ourselves lol. Like I said, the red lines don't bother me. If they change it, it's whatever but getting the Lv 50 aura just doesn't make sense.
(They aren't gonna do it but) What would be cool if the original 5 races get a image swap on the gloves and/or feet with beast like arms and feet with claws with Miqote and Au Ra having a tail swap. The Au Ra get that with wings and a full skin swap to match there clan. >.>;

I want the new aura AND I want options to turn it off. =)
As a non-dark knight you're getting what you wanted and that's great. But it doesn't invalidate the other issue, being that the current aura design looks horrible compared to any of the other job's auras. We should expect quality work for something we pay for,not just hide anything that looks bad and pretend it never happened.
But this thread is focused around being able to turn it off

It hurts my soul when the Aura is 3.4 times BIGGER then the character. As you can see this man trolling roleplayer's with his aura.
I seem to recall a quest where you had to infiltrate Castrum Centri and kill some Garleans to get their attention or something. I know the Garleans assimilate other empires into their own to further their plan, and often, people join them out of fear or because they believe them to be the winning faction, but why in the hell was it a good idea to provoke war between them? Come to think of it, the whole plan to take down the Ultima Weapon was pretty much to go around killing them. Really kinda proves what the Garleans say about Eorzeans being savage.
It doesn't matter if they improve the visual of the effect. No matter how awe inspiring the owner thinks it looks, the rest of us still need the option to not see it - just like we have the option not to see every other spell/skill/ability effect in the game. This one effect should not be the exception to the rule. I'm sorry, but it's just not that vital for everyone to be forced to render it.
