[Suggestion] FFXIV Alt-Friendliness

Well, if folks can bump posts, I may as well.

I really am hoping something can be done for alts.

I know many say the having one character thing is the best thing about this game...to me, it's the worst, as it's used as an excuse to never do stuff like this and throw people who do like alts under the bus with 'WeLl We CaN HaVe EvErYtHiNg On OnE ChaRacTer".

Yeah. I don't care.

Most of the jobs aren't of any interest to me. Many characters with many stories are.

Sigh.

I know you don't want to hear this, but the game systems are actually designed to be done on a single character, similar to Runescape in that capacity.
You wouldn't expect Jagex to transfer items/quests from one character to another in honor of alt-friendliness.
Warcraft has a lot of systems that encourage alts (different story for different factions, only one class per character, only 2 professions per character, only 1 clear of old raids per week requiring multiples for multiple tries, many more)
Square even offers the entry subscription because they know people don't use that many characters to begin with.

I'm NOT against your proposal to improve the lives of people wanting to play more characters, but I don't think this will be a priority for Squeanix for a long time :S

This game literally offers nothing for having alts. It's pure torture again and forcing you to do msq that you already know far too well. If this game didn't allow for all jobs to be on one char, I'd understand.

Only real usage of having alts is to have multiple FC's farming gil lol, no other use really.

It's alright; I know we all have different playstyles and mine's in the minority. It just makes the game less fun for me, and I see no point to doing content that wouldn't fit my 'main' in that case, so I just end up playing less and lapsing my sub. I used to like XIV due to story, but even that's gone away. I'm hoping my voice would encourage others like me to speak up and talk about it.

But yeah, it'd be okay even if you were against it. I also highly doubt it's their priority, but with WoW now having better housing, XIV really doesn't have much going for it (in my opinion). I'm staying for the RP and my houses but that's lost its luster bigtime. I would do more content, again, if there was a point, I don't need everything on my miqo and in fact most things don't fit for her at all, but would for other characters. I can't be excited for doing new content because /shrug, I got the look I enjoy for her, and my alts would just be locked behind everything.

All of my ramble is to say - I know and won't ever get my hopes up, but keeping the conversation going could be useful if it's ever to be considered and they want reasons 'why' from players themselves.

As for arguments I already addressed (different post than yours), I'm not going to bother to repeat myself :P

SE aren't going to give up their profit. You absolutely can't expect shared MSQ or shared mog items. At most what I see they may do is something like shared gil bank.

I'm not expecting anything, myself. I'm simply pointing out what I want to see, and floating the idea that they'd likely make more money if they finally caved to alt friendliness. It's no secret they're not doing well at all right now, and there really just doesn't feel like a point to doing content on a character that isn't my main.

But, again, I acknowledge I'm in the minority and figured sharing this perspective could get people to think or speak up if they feel the same. Because, again, XIV really has less and less to offer, and virtually every other MMORPG popular right now has more alt friendliness. Story-locking stuff is hurting the game imo, not only for those who have alts, but for new players. That's a whole other argument though irrelevant to this thread.

...Also, the above quote was countering people who use the 'all classes' argument, not the 'but SE and their money' argument. The latter of which, yeah, means it's unlikely to come but I can hope. But is irrelevant to what I said there >.>I'm just tired of being talked over by people who make the 'all classes on one character' argument like it's going to suddenly change my mind. It's not appealing to me. XIV classes for the most part don't, aside from a small few.

Personally I'd like achievements shared across characters. Link them to the service account rather than the character itself.

It'd be nice if it all was account bound (like the WoW Collections journal), but if people are wanting more folks to do more content, this is a viable solution to the alt-unfrendliness and lack of people doing content.

At the moment we can't trade or mail anything to alts. I don't know what they'd need to change to make that viable. But this simple change would get me personally to do far, far more content, as at least I'd have a reason to go for the reward.

Also yes, story skips/progress should be account bound, imo. Ridiculous that it's a shop thing that doesn't apply to your entire account. Yes, I know it's because of money. How's that working out for them?

If we could mail items to ALTS then that would mean all the free fantasia's we get could just be mailed to our main. When I create a new character it automatically gets a fantasia. I would never need to buy another one from the store again because I could just create an alt, mail it to my main, and then delete that alt. This alone would severely lower their profits on the game as it's one of the most purchased items form their store.

Don't get me wrong, I would be ecstatic if they allowed it! But I just don't think it will ever happen as much as I've wanted it. I suppose they could just make most items bought from the store account-wide, as you mentioned (which should have been the case from the very start), but make Fantasia untradeable between same accounts?

I also think Gil should be accessible by alts.
