Then... It'd have no difference?
I mean... If by your own admission, people aren't putting skills onto their bar and/or using them on normal jobs anyway...
Then them showing up on BLU and not having their skills is literally no different right?

Here's hoping that something changes in the near future with Blue mage, it needs the rework, it needs to be playable, not just a useless minigame.
I used BLU in the solo instance in the FFXV event, to take advantage of all those overpowered abilities and skills.
It was an exercise in frustration, I felt like an idiot, I have a decent amount of the spellbook done, yet I mostly just ended up aqua breath -> high voltage most of the fight, which wasn't fun at all, all of the "overpowered" skills like Missile obviously don't work, it just felt like I wasted my time on a job that can't do its job well, my friend queued up as a RDM at around the same time and was done much earlier than I was, so much for being overpowered I guess.
The more I play BLU, the more I realize just how shallow it really is, you do the spellbook...and then what? I hardly think the carnivale was a good substitute for locking off 95% of actual content, I would have honestly preferred it level and gain skills like a regular job, as it is now, it doesn't even perform well solo, outside of a handful of abilities that barely work half the time, it can't do PotD nor can it even queue for squadron duties, it can't even do solo content, unlike every other combat job.
I was cautiously optimistic for the limited job system, but if this is how they are going to be implemented, can't say I want to see any more.
They butchered this job. What a waste of resources. They could have given us a healing job in 5.0 instead of this useless, half-implemented mess of a job. What were they thinking, honestly?
The BLU "job identity" argument makes no sense considering almost every job in FFXIV has been re-invented a bit (e.g. pyro mage, dragon mage) ....I rly don't see why we couldn't just be instructed to fight mobs and learn their abilities during job quests and then have those form a rotation with the devs taking creative liberties in regards to how the abilities function in the context of XIV
