My apologies, but the entire P2W is really wishy washy. Retainers give you a clear advantage over other players at the market board, since you can store more items, do more ventures and sell more items. Dyes save you either money or ventures which you could use on other items instead, again, giving you an advantage. Paying for high end raid weapons won't give you any advantage over another person come the next gear cycle.

To me, a level jump potion seems no different than an item level jump potion. The only argument you can really make here is that level 60 will be outdated at the time and therefore not as important anymore.

Well actually it will cause you'll probably need to be 60 to start the expansion (or so I guess) so it's clearly and advantage over those who would not buy and then have to take time to lvl from scratches.

But true, if you pay of additional retainers you have a higher % of getting stuff which can sell more on the market, and through there buy better gear. But it's a rather slow process and it's not 100% since it's based on RNG. Personally I would not call that P2W.

In a game like FFXIV where PvP is almost non-existing there's little P2W to begin with in my opinion.
Some might see getting more Gil to spend on the market is P2W because they don't need to put the same amount of time farming/grinding like the other person.
But we all have our own point of view over everything. All I can do is say how I see things, like anyone of us really.

It's considered to be 'P2W' because so far every item on the Mog Station is purely cosmetic. It doesn't give any advantages of note. A potion allowing players to skip a large portion of the game's content, however, is clearly a paid advantage. There's no disguising that fact - and it sets us all on a slippery slope because the moment something like that is added it gives both developers and certain players leverage to push for other paid services to be added that may very well qualify as 'P2W' too.

Do people here even know what Pay to win is? It doesn't seem like it. We paid 50 for HW and now someone can buy a potion and auto complete the MS assuming it is like this. Pure pay to win!

It is unfortunate that they're going forward this soon with this. I get why they're doing it, they think new players won't be willing to put in the four weeks of grind to get through the story and into the new content. I am of the opinion that they're wrong for the most part.

I am pro cash shop. For me, it's largely fine but this is a departure from what it's been.

Will this give you an advantage over established players? No. Will this result in a glut of horrible players who can't figure out their buttons? Ultimately? No. If a player doesn't care about playing well it won't matter if they got the potion or leveled with FATEs. What this will do is give a paid advantage over their fellow new players. That represents four weeks (give or take based on play time and style) more time that that new player will have at level cap to gear up, collect tomes, and clear content.

Is that a huge deal? To me, no. It's just an annoying change. I knew this was coming, I was expecting another expac or two before it did.

For a long term (until today, I'm afraid), new players as potion takers are unwelcomed among the Chinese. You can imagine the reason--they immediately reach lv50, do not understand the MSQ, do not know most skills and mechanics, some even do not know what to do after lv50.
Despite the ones who learn quickly, complaints about potion takers in team play are just like "can they read a little guide before joining us" "can they at least put on proper gears""can they buy something useful with the gils"...Both sides are unhappy with this: potion takers feel hard to continue the game, others feel hard to teach the potion takers.
However the Chinese agent don't care----you buy the potion, they get your money, their mission ends; leaving the potion takers and the angry old players quarreling themselves. Many people bought the game because of the potion, and left soon for the same reason.
Maybe you feel jealous about not having it, but in most occasions it is nothing more than toxic.

There's no chance at all of them allowing anyone to skip paying for HW via this method.

This is the correct usage of the term and what it means, being able to purchase equipment/gear more powerful than what is obtainable in game, so he/she with the more money are able to win encounters over opposition players.

To try and add more meaning than this to it, then you would have to also add every single item from the mog station, and every item that was gotten via any promotion as they are also gated via real money, so you are in turn paying to win.

Except they aren't winning anything. You'll be jumped to 60 and be given crappy gear, then have to level with everyone else to reach the actual endgame. Nothing at 60 will be relevant anymore once Stormblood releases. A jump potion is essentially saying, "we know you already spam esc/numpad 0. So here's an item that will make that process faster, provided you pay us for it."

More scummy tactics by SE. Shocking.
