Your funny, embarassing, mistakes and weaknesses as a new player

I don't even know if this counts it was so late games. I messed up Black Mage for a while till an fc mate corrected me. I missed the fact that Ice 4 reapplied enchirdian. I was just using it as a burst CD for the longest time, completely unaware that it can be maintain over an entire fight. Even late game player can be blissfully unawares.

It was my first dungeon as a healer (lvl 15 CNJ). I play on ps3, so i must use a controller. At the time i didn't know that you could use the arrow buttons (or whatever they're called), so i'd try to target by like going near them and trying to target them that way. Since i often wasn't able to target them i often used Medica, which means that i sometimes stole hate. The first time that happened i just started running and panicking. The tank told me to calm down and get near him, so i did. Luckily i learned about targeting before attempting TamTara....

"Increases enmity, what the f*ck? No damage or anything? What a weird skill. Guess I'm not using that."

I struggled so hard with holding aggro(even after getting the concept) that it took me ages to work up the courage to eventually level my two tank alts to 50.


Aside from that, I remember during the Archer questline.... or maybe it was the MSQ.... you are expected to protect a chocobo egg from a group of poachers or something. My gear level must have been quite mediocre because I struggled a whole lot with that duty despite strafing the hell out of that boss. Unfortunately, I didn't quite get how Bind worked, not realising that the effect ends the moment the target is attacked again, so I thought it only bought me an extra second at best to try and increase the distance between me and the lancer. so I died repeatedly and of course this was back when you weren't automatically revived outside of the duty entrance. One other archer that noticed me dying tried to help but suggesting I use Bind to which I begrudgingly thought "But I AM =w= ; "

I also had no idea about the trinity system nor that enemy markers were numbers placed a party member. I remember a Tank getting snarky with me in Copperbell because I was pulling enemies on my own, not realising there was anything wrong with that.


I also remember seeing a Bard using Barrage in Syrcus Tower once and while I had seen many use them in the past and just rolled my eyes, this time finally made me think "Why the hell are you even using that? That's only useful if you have no TP left whatsoever"..... because I was under the impression that auto attacks only happen when you're not using any attacks of your own(since, well, to be fair, that made sense!).

So I'm just about at the end of my free 30 days and close to level 56, and I guess I've been getting tombstones, but I was more concerned about learning fights and getting completions. Did the bard's version of the Ultima weapon (8 player raid) for the first time earlier, got to the end, and was told I couldn't get any more poetics. Now, I had tried to go to Rowena about tombstones previously but she is no help, so when I got this message I tried again. Then I did a net search, which only really said to go to some merchants. One merchant said I needed to trade tombstones for tokens, so eventually I figured out by trial and error that the merchant next to her would do the exchange, so I traded for 10 poetics tokens. But only then, after the trade, did I notice I could get some nice Ironworks gear for straight poetics tombstones. Managed to get some pieces anyway since I had been at the cap for those tombstones (2000), but not as many as I could have. Oh well. Now I get how the post-50 gear acquisition system works :p

Yeah the poetics tokens are used with the encrypted tomestone to purchase the 120 weapons.

I couldn't push buttons worth a darn.

....This would be why you don't see me around much. I love the game but I'm bad at it.

The first dungeon I tanked, I looked up about 4 guides, memorized each encounter and boss, and the map layout and that little colored coral gimmick; just to realize when I went through it, that it was not as insanely stressful as I was expecting it to be, and the players were friendly; said I did a really great job and gave me commendations. After that I wasn't as-stressed about dungeons, and no other normal dungeon has come close to as bad as my expectations for the first dungeon were. Although I'm still kinda iffy about doing dungeons even at lv.55; and prefer to craft, gather, decorate, fish, hang around the marketboard, hunt, or just about anything other than dungeons, and the MQ; which of course is not very good for my leveling considering I'm going onto my second or third month and still don't have a single lv.60. lol

OK, so...

After getting to Heavensward at level 59 then taking my White Mage to 60 this past weekend as week 5 in the game was coming to a close, I decided to try another class for variety and perspective before getting into the HW story. I had previously leveled Arcanist to 16 and Thaumaturge to 26 to get some cross-class skills, and I figured getting the former to at least 34 would get me the cross-class skill Eye for an Eye. Been having fun, unlocked both Scholar and Summoner at 30 (now at 36).

Getting to 30 though I realized tab targetting means I can tab to get a new target rather than trying to move around so I can click on one. And I also realized after 30 that since the two jobs are both Arcanist, I can just level Scholar to level Summoner, since healers get into DF groups faster than dps. (I've also been able to see what other healers are like in 4 player groups, don't feel as bad as I did about my own performances, but also learned some things too).

How about my lack of luck when I jump shot (can't remember what the bard skill is called) myself out of a boss encounter and got locked outside I got praised for extremely perfect timing
