How you chose your healing job.

I am in an identity crisis right now in game. I usually main WHM because of all the jobs it's the one I have enjoyed most and usually just default to. When HW came out I really liked the idea of AST, but leveling it up felt like a real chore. The tools I had on whm just seemed so much better. Now I am kinda bored with the game and content and part of me really wants to go back to AST, but for some reason I hesitate to. I dunno, the flow seems very different from whm and I can acknowledge that maybe it's because AST is not something I'm used to, but there are no good ASTs on my server to really ask (most people on my server still don't really like ASTs either >.>; ) but then it's that reason that attracts me to AST more-- I like playing classes that fewer people play for some reason o.o;

I chose Whitemage because it seemed like the classic healing class or similar to it and I was new to healing at the time so I wanted an easier class to play. Slowly Im working on leveling a Scholar and also thinking of lvling AST when I get to higher levels because I absolutely fell in love with healing.

I've tried all of the healers, but AST has to be my favorite. I love the utility and RNG. I love that I have to work just a little bit harder. I love that I'm given the toolkit to substitute as either of the other healing classes with the click of a button. I love that I have to memorize which card is which and what it's best use would be in any given scenario. The other roles were fun, yes, but AST has a certain charm to it that they just don't have. And the aesthetic doesn't hurt, either. Stars? Galaxies? Big floppy hats? Yes, please.

I actually leveled SCH and now I really don't want to stop playing it. It's so much fun! I fixed my SCH setup to work on my controller and now it even more easier to control the pet. My pet skills easily swap when I change fairies so it take less space too :)

I started playing as a thaumaturge and needed conjurer for the job. It grew on me pretty quick and I ended up with a White Mage to 50 before my main at the time, Black Mage. Faster que times, more responsibility. I've leveled sch to 20 or so but never really liked it and I don't see myself enjoying being at the mercy of random card heals with AST.

Swapped from WHM to AST in 3.0 in the hopes that AST would be a more support-oriented healer with a much higher skill floor than WHM, with less of a pressure/requirement to DPS and more emphasis on using any healer downtime to buff the party.

After all of the "adjustments", I came to realize that...I'm still basically maining a WHM. (4.0 can't come fast enough for me.)

Got DRG to ~55 and wanted to help out people with dungeons so i started to level AST and DRK because I didn't have to start at level 1. Eventually got the both to 50, liked DRK more and left AST alone. Got WHM up for Stoneskin and decided to bring it to 50 just so I could use my Ironworks gear.
I Think I prefer AST just for the fact tht I can buff party members and that i have Essential Dignity from early on, plus I prefer both Benefic II Trait and ASTs buffs.
Maybe i just need to level WHM to 60 to really judge how I feel.

Eventually I will get ACN to 30 so I can see how I like SCH compared to the other healers.

Originally mained PLD about a year ago. My old static had too many tanks, so I had leveled WHM to 50 and learned to perfect it. Haven't looked back. It's my favorite class! What could be better than being able to throw out terrific heals while simultaneously dishing out impressive DPS? :D

I was playing one of my all time favourite classes at the time, an Aion Cleric - one hand weapon and shield or two handed weapon. For those who aren't familiar with the Aion game, the Cleric was the healing class for groups (there was a support buffer as well, the Chanter class, but it couldn't compare with the Cleric for group healing)
I believe other healing classes have been added since then, but at that time it was just the Cleric - and I loved it.

So, along comes FFXIV and:- the Conjurer class that becomes a White Mage. Group healing class - one hand weapon and shield or two handed weapon. Equipped with a wide range of healing abilities and also able to battle it out on mobs when required.
And that was it, no point looking any further, I'd found my Aion Cleric in another game. The White Mage which moved to the top of my favourites list - and is still there.

I didn't really "pick" AST, AST picked me :D
It's more akin to falling in love than a concious decision for me xD

I always, in all games, enjoyed support (as in various buffs and some heals) more than pure healing.
Because of that, WHM was okay-ish to me but boring, as all I was doing was healing and DPSing, the Protect cast at the start of the dungeon not really counting.
SCH never sat well with me; mainly because the last remaining part I enjoy about healers who can't support is the actual healing - which is mostly done by the fairy on SCH.
Also found the DoTs annoying to place, the shields less speaking to me than WHM's regen, etc.

Then AST was released, and everything was perfect :o
I have ALL the support buffs, decent heals, regen, even shields if I want them sometimes. Also helps that the skill animations are just BEAUTIFUL.
As time passed, I also embraced the lore of the class on a deep level, so now I won't even rage anymore when I get 6 spears in a row :rolleyes:
Because..it's fate :3
