Free to Play vs Pay to Play Ideas

Regarding the OP: interesting ideas, might or might not work but I honestly don't see XIV going f2p.

My personal opinion: When I'm on the streets and I see some dude/gal/?? with a nice car or any other high priced thing that I want, I can always say: "Someday, I'll have a good paying job and I'll be able to buy not just that, BUT TWO of those".

Perhaps it's a weird example, but it also applies to the general feeling I get from XIV in it's current state. I see some neat gear that looks good and I can say "I'll reach r50/?? one of these days and I'll get them myself" o perhaps "I'm going to save up my gil so I can buy it". And that's with every gear in the game. If a cash shop was implemented I wouldn't be able to say that to everything. To some things I would have to actually pay real money to get them if I really wanted them or pay an insane amount of gil to get it. I don't want that feeling.

Perhaps F2P could help this game, perhaps not. But I'm just giving my personal opinion on the matter without touching the logical points of the debate.

Oh another thing I haven't seen. If a cash shop was added, wouldn't that also affect the economy? I played on a private RO server, and the "donation" items were always overpriced for what they did (wings, wigs, etc..).

lol obviously this thread just isn't for you. It was suppose to talk about the pros and cons to both, but it's not really a thread catering to the narrow-minded.

not sure how I'm narrow minded because I dont choose the same option as you like a majority that have posted in this thread

I never said I was for either kind of payment indefinitely. I wanted to talk about what would be good and bad for both and what overall would be best. I try to show all the options in a positive and fair-footed ground, but too many people have had bad expereinces with free to play and just expect them to be all bad, which isn't true. Some people appear to just blindly believe that a pay to play game is going to be better than a free to play one and that's not necessarily true either. We have barely heard anything from the final fantasy xiv team about payment and how to go about it since they made it free to play (without a stereotypical model) indefinitely and I wanted to toss around ideas about which would highlight different parts of the game.

? were did you get all that from what i stated, but what the hell ill bite yes not all f2p are exactly the same but there all similar in ways for one the cash shop is always there and the one with most cash has a leg up on those who dont.

I dont think using ones experiences is "blindly believing". In fact you mentioned you have very little experience with either systems. If your goal was to have a discussion on the goods and bads and overall what would be best then I think you succeeded. But since the outcome did not turn out like you had hoped I believe you are trying in vain to sway others to the F2P option. There isn't anything wrong with that, its totally understandable that you dont want to pay a monthly sub, some people just dont.

But how is it having a leg up if they are items that don't really effect gameplay?

I didn't have a particular payment I was for in mind, but as I said before, unbiased looks at both systems was the goal. This game was originally designed as a pay to play and look at it. I know there was some effort put into the game and there still is to improve on it, but that's not to stay that free to play games are crap like I feel a lot of people that posted here think.

It's just very difficult to see this game being pay to play when I'm seeing free to play ones out there that are doing financially better, have better populations, and gameplay that rivals final fantasy xiv in enjoyment. And even though it is free now, some people still refuse to play it or have tossed it aside. I would be all for pay to play if the game was up to par, enjoyable, and it guaranteed quality and service, but I'm starting to question that pay to play actually means those things.

At any rate, any sort of payment system, if done right, could work. I just hope the game will be around long enough to start charging for it at this rate, lol.
