Why I stopped paying for FFXIV

To be absolutly sure it's Squares fault due to latency:

1- Use the highest internet speed possible(for the time being).

2- Connect your hardware directly, use cold connections(not Wi-Fi, no router).

3- Lower your firewall or use ports(that's what "they've" told me) and try using a Virtual Private Network(VPN).

4- Test you connection speed from your location to anywhere in the nation or even using Tokyo as a reference.

You don't have to use the link I gave you but it's only a reference to measuring a good connection.

People who don't understand how the internet works, at all, trying to explain to others why they are lagging...

:/ It hurts for me to think that people are this ignorant, and would rather just call it "white knighting."

I'm now convinced that certain people in this thread complaining about lag are simply trolling. What a waste of everyone's time.

Funny that he talks about others being dumb and yet he's just as narrow minded. There was a thread of well over a thousand people posting that they had latency issues. But yet him and his other defending buddy (which both make me sick) still sit here and argue it's on our end. Even though SE took measures to try and help the issue... Even SE is changing stuff to help with the issue shows who side the issue is on. But yet those defenders will sit here and argue nothing is wrong @ all. I just don't get it. The fact they already had to run a free to play weekend just goes to show people are getting tired of the issues with this game. And still the defenders argue everything is fine.

I live 500km from the datacenter (I am in Toronto), and I still get weird delay lag. For example, I cast a spell... move when it's 3/4 done, and it doesn't cancel. There is also people stuttering when running.

People farther away most have it even worse.

I'm not tech by any means, but i'll just stat my opinion. The servers are just junk. I'd almost bet they used old FFXI servers for FFXIV. Half the time i see people running by me and they just slide by me, or i see their chocobo just standing with no one on it sliding by me. And so many times i just get locked standing still while using abilities and none of them going off for a good 5 to 10 seconds. During busy fates... just forget about seeing any kinda animation. I won't even get started on how it is trying to avoid the red circles as it's been stated hundreds of times before.

I am glad to see these threads because as much as people want to white knight this game and pretend like everything is fine and everyone needs to l2p, people are leaving in droves. Every single person I started the game with has quit. EVERY SINGLE ONE. These are hardcore gamers that played XI and WoW for half a decade.

They reason they left is latency making the game unplayable (they can play other games fine) and SE making classically casual content only for the hardcore and making raiding content casual. (Seriously, who the fk does that?) They are sick of seeing "Please look forward to it" and excuses.

I know no one cares but I still like this game (primal fight addiction) and would like some of the people I enjoy gaming with to come back.

I hope they can get this game back on track somehow. I do really love this game and don't want to see it become a ghost town.

Because it's not simply a network latency issue. There are some very, very bad and very, very blatant issues with SE's entire positioning and movement backend. For reference, go to Youtube and look up the video of a WHM running around RT casting Esuna constantly while moving. That should not be possible even with a 3000ms ping - it indicates there's no client-side enforcement whatsoever, which is mind-boggling.

Well, it seems the difference between the two is FFXI still processed delayed packets, while XIV drops them. In XI you'd see people speed up but still go through their animation, XIV just teleports them.

Interestingly I think the server architecture might be similar due to the way position is handled (which leads to teleporting bots).

I think it's more feasible for SE to fix elements that are within their control than those that aren't. It seems like more work for them to have network maintenance every other week rather than just simply increasing the cast time of Weight of the Land by a single GCD. Titan is the fight where people have the majority of their issues. I understand WotL is meant to be a punishing mechanic, but if so many people have legitimate connection issues to SE's servers then it'd be nice if they make some concessions on their side to lessen the impact of factors outside of their control.
