Derp of the day:

Had a friend visiting me. She recently started playing FFXIV and is interested in seeing the "end game" content, so I just decided to queue for Susano EX because it's a lot of fun and I know the fight very well. Maybe too well. ('Cause I love explaining things a little too much when I know them well.. :rolleyes:)
So I was trying to explain the mechanics to her while doing the fight, and got the knockback mark while the cloud was directly behind the group. I was like "Well, do you see this? If I don't move to one of the sides now, I'll lead a a big violet AOE into the group. You need to check where the cloud is and make sure to go to a safe zone", while starting to move to the right. Uhm, you may know where this is going now.

Blabbermouth Izu was SO busy explaining what was going on and what she needed to do that she was a liiiitttllleeee too slow .... and led the cloud AOE directly into the group, eventually wiping it.
Me, already reddish like a tomato, looked at my friend, saying "See? Never do this.." with the group already raging at me. I apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. Too late, someone left, more people leaving afterwards.

Lesson of the day: Don't try to impress friends with your knowledge, you'll look like an idiot (and eventually BE one) :D

He pulled a pack and AOE'd it, I cast regen, he pulls another pack and I get aggro from the second pack (get hit one GCD because swiftcast holy preventing more). Ensue tank rage.
Also yes I realize their behavior was reportable but the report system was buggy (wouldn't let me write in the box). And I was too busy trying to clear O2S afterwards cuz I just wanted tomestones from roulette.

It's not so much about maintaining aggro it is the problem of as I run in to pull 3 mobs my Tomahawk only hits one of them and if the healer put regen on me just before I pulled then the two other mobs run right past me to the healer since my GCD is going and then I have to chase them to overpower. Overpower also needs to be aimed so if I don't have beast gauge to use Steel Cyclone then you are making my job harder for no reason especially since those prepull regen ticks literally just did overhealing.

Just wait for the tank to AoE the hate on all the mobs first.

This is why I don't like Medica II on trash pulls as I stated here. My other reason of course is that it's a spell with costs balanced around using it on multiple targets, and just because it stacks with Regen doesn't mean it's worth it (however if the tank and DPS are taking damage I will use it). If it so happens that Medica II doesn't fall off before the next pull, it will cause problems because you're expecting 3 people to click off a buff and some people might be playing on PS4.

Just make sure the tank secures aggro before you put Regen on the tank. I'm assuming this was an accident though.

I ran into a tank last night that was really odd.

I q'd for mentor roulette in-progress on my Ast because I enjoy helping parties who had a healer ditch them. I got a Hauke Manor normal in-progress where everyone but a GLD had left. Eventually two more DPS came along and we got to it, and it immediately became evident this tank had no idea how to hold aggro. We repeatedly told them they need to use flash multiple times to keep mobs off us, but never followed through on it.

I am willing to give most players the benefit of a doubt with stuff like this if I think they're still relatively new. But then I open their search info and see they had like 6 other jobs to 30. You don't get that many jobs to 30 that early in the game without running the low level dungeons a good number of times.They also seemed to be avoiding rolling on loot they could have obviously used to avoid giving us a window to kick after one of the DPS mentioned it (because the tank was lowest on the aggro table most of the run).

We ended up just finishing the dungeon, but that had all kinds of red flags going off in my head and I'm not sure why.

My 2 cents on the regen in a large pull debate...

As SCH I Adlo after he pulls the first pack to protect his health while moving to the second one (if he is squishy enough to need this).

As AST I am usually in Noct so same idea I Aspected Benefic him. Even easier because it's instant.

As WHM I have options. If the tank isn't too squishy I won't do anything in terms of healing between pulls and instead rotate Aero 2 and get my Aero 3 ready. If he is a paper tank I will get off a cure quick (if I have no lillies) then throw Divine Bension on him. It isn't a huge shield but it can take a couple of hits and is ususally enough to keep even the paperiest paper tanks alive while I have all my dots up and running. Of course once aggro is established I'll regen him but unless it seems like I have silly/careless DPS or DPS pulling off the tank regularly I won't pop Medica 2 I'd rather just regen that DPS.

Also, to all my DPS friends out there, if you get a regen tossed on you in a fight without unavoidable damage that is usually the healer's way of saying "Seems like you're gonna need this buddy" and maybe you need to play a bit more cautious with AoE and enmity.

Do you WANT dps to start taking regens as a personal offense?

My favorite is when I give melee both Ast regens and they just keep standing in everything.

Personal offense? No.... More like a helpful reminder to pop Diversion occasionally (or *shudder* to even slot it in the first place) and that the orange circles are not our friends and don't require hugs.

This is distinctly not my favorite but I have seen it happen even with all 3 AST regens sadly.

Here is a noob confession of mine, when I went to the Sunken Temple of Qarn for the first time, my party wiped at the first boss but I survived. I was a LNC at the time and I began running in circles thinking fallen teammates could walk through the sealed barrier but that wasn't the case..... I wasted like 5 minutes of running around until I wiped, lesson learned.... It was my first time wiping at a boss since I began playing the game, so I didn't know at the time that once a barrier sealed, that was it until the entire party wiped to enter again together. At least the people I was playing with had a good laugh instead of bashing me, lol.

I queue Scholar with my Bard friend who needs Sohm Al (regular). We get a Bard and DK who know each other. The DK pulls big without asking if it's okay. NP, I spam heal and we make it through. We get to the 1st boss, we win, and the Bard PUG starts making snarky remarks about the level of DPS and how slow it took to kill the boss. I respond that things went fine (we won after all). More snarky remarks. The DK starts in as well, complaining that I should be DPS'ing also (mind you that he's still pulling big). This goes on for the next 15 mins. We finally get to the end boss. The Bard pug dies standing in fire. I die spam healing the DK pug. We try again. I get meteor, so leave fairy by DK and run to the side. The DK dies before I could get back into healing range. More snarky remarks. And I get kicked. There wasn't even a vote, according to my bard friend.
