Well, good luck guys. Who knows, if they change the sounds again, maybe they might listen to other requests.
Honestly, I'd just wait until the next expansion because that will likely be the time where they actually fix it and other problems they've been holding off/ignoring for the past year. -_-
But still, keep voicing your opinions because it'll also help them not to forget how much of a crap fest this change was so they won't likely do it again.
Decided to take a break from Dark Knight recently and do a few Ex trials on Gunbreaker and boy I forgot how bad the new sounds were. The incredibly dull and muted main combo is a travesty and doesn't even sound like a sword anymore. The fact they changed the sounds so quickly without acknowledging they were going to be doing so or asking more people for feedback still strikes me as incredibly unprofessional as well. I sincerely hope they look into changing sounds back, or providing us an option to use the old ones.
Glad there are still people talking about this. Hopefully it won't be forgotten about.
I'm afraid we won't see changes until 6.0, because devs clearly no longer care about feedback and quality of the game (or Square Enix, not the devs, they used probably whole game budget on ads, instead on the content), only about sweet $$. But i definitely won't let them forget about it.
Job design suffers a lot this expansion, but from jobs i like only GNB is really broken. And MCH, but this job is a mess since its introduction.
if they didn't change it before 6.0 they will never do it unless they upgrade the whole combo with new animations and sounds wich seems to be unlikely, this expansion it's being weird overall, to much marketing and to much awards nominations while it's raining complains about everything they did this last 7 months like i never see before, how much more they are going to keep ignoring the player base seems to be a question with no clear answer at this point.
Still submitting tickets to them. Even as small was "WHY WON'T YOU CHANGE THE DAMN SFX ALREADY".
Wow this is still an issue???
I definitely do not use mods for the intolerable sound effects just to enjoy the job at all. Yup, not a single mod at all is used on my account/characters.
Yup.
I would still like to play this Job, but every so often I suit it up and go over to a striking dummy and immediately realize why I still don't play it. Square please. This is awful.
It's Gunblade. They removed trigger sounds, removing Gun part, and removed slashing sounds, removing Blade part. Ironic.
I have no practical knowledge about creating sfx and i would be ashamed of that. And they keep pretending nothing is happening for so long. This game and devs really fell low. I'm not sure is it the problem with the devs themselves or lack of budget, but i hope we will see better times.
I sure do miss that crisp trigger pull sound.
I still watch the Shadowbringers Job action trailer from time to time, to hear the old crisp perfect sounds. I die a little inside hearing the old Solid Barrel combo (that super satisfying trigger click at the end and the metal part clinks from each combo step) and the old Blasting zone (was perfect imo). The new sounds I am still upset over, I can't stand them. They are such a massive downgrade, and leaving my in game feedback for SE still hasn't done much (not even a reply). Just makes me feel terrible about it to be honest...
We'll just have to keep an eye out for the next dev stream question thread. We can keep asking when they'll fix it. Obviously we're still unhappy with it and haven't gotten used it it.
The recent developer diary one of the sound dev actually created the sounds based on the weapon to contain metal and gun parts so when it swings it should have metal clunking sounds instead. So the dev was actually spot on in his implementation, it's just that the ppl who complained this isn't.
Exactly this-- and I'm actually still amazed this weapon sound thing is still an issue.
First, people complained-- they fixed it. And then in the latest Creation of FFXIV Shadowbringers video, the sound team gave us a brilliant insight into how they created some of those sounds-- and to be honest, those sounds are more true to the job class.
Yet, there are still complaints? Seriously?
Yes, seriously. The current weapon sounds are absolute garbage. Maybe if they had been in since day one and the class was advertised with them, there would be no issue. But to take something that many people consider to have been superior and a better fit for the class, and yeet it out the window two weeks into release because a handful of people cried on the internet about it; is simply disrespectful to the fans. I had no clue that there were any complaints back at SHB's launch, and with the changes made in 5.01 it actively pissed me off and was the reason I hadn't been subscribed for the 4 of the last 6 months.
I've been playing this game since it's release and I had always approved of and supported developer decisions. I was looking forward to GNB and was excitedly playing it at launch. Then they pull the ol' switcheroo on us and then we get told to just get used to it, despite the clear dislike of the current audio by the player base. It feels insulting and has actively created a wedge in my enjoyment of the game as a whole. I wouldn't go to a Ninja and take his dagger sounds and replace them with the sound of slapping wooden sticks around, so I sure as hell don't see why taking the crisp sound of a sword and gun and replacing it with a club sound with deafened explosions is acceptable.
I will never drop this issue and I will continue to ask about it at every venture and opportunity I get.
independent of the current sounds being the original or not i will probably keep complaing since the GNB sounds are to quiet for my own taste, i can't heard the main combo betwen all the other jobs sounds effects in middle of a fight compared to his original version and since GNB is based half of the time on use solid barrel at the last second of the combo timer half of the time i belive i complety miss the hit since it's sounds like you fail the combo and you are using the skill combo-less.
can we restore the main combo sounds at minimun please? this is becoming really annoying at this point.
100% agree with you Karious.
The sounds being perfect on release in 5.0 in many people's eyes as they were exactly as advertised in the job trailers, gave me and alot of others joy playing Gunbreaker, and they sounded so unique to anything else blade wise we have had prior (at least imo).
Then 5.01 patch notes happened and it was ruined with them replacing 90% of the attacking kits sounds leaving only bow shock and sonic break original (when the original complaint stemmed from fated circle and maybe burst strike explosions being weak sounding. Alot of different sources unsure which is 100% accurate this seems most brought up).
And the replacements are quite honestly downgrades of their former selves. Solid barrel combo possibly being the worst off in that regard now sounding almost the same with each hit (although for me the bigger pain is losing og blasting zone, such a crisp mechanical blasting sound before)
So while they still remain as is, of course people are going to leave feedback for changes/reverts if they are unhappy and this thread's size proves that. We don't want club sounding gunBLADES. The old sounds fit perfectly for what they originally did. The new ones do not.
Just because it might not affect your enjoyment of the job/game, it clearly does for others. The other sounds this xpac have been phenomenal, in saying that in the history of this game this has been a first where a jobs SOUNDS have been touched out of the blue or at least in such a massive way(at least to my knowledge since starting in 2013). Had they originally only touched continuation, burst strike and fated circle in 5.01 then I personally wouldn't have a problem, but they didn't stop at just them so...
The kit and animations of Gunbreaker are beautiful and fun, the sounds as they are atm are not.
So yes, seriously.
Yoshi lied a bunch of times, but this time his awful decisions directly affect me. I'm starting to feel like even Blizzard has some decency left, here devs don't even pretend.
Keep these in game suggestions coming. And i'm looking forward to next Q&A, question about GNB sfx is going to be again top rated question, and again is going to be ignored. They are almost childish.
A thousand suns may set, but the insult of this downgrade hath been etched upon our eternal memory.
Not answering a divisive question that is sure to incite a negative reaction from either larger chunk of their playerbase isn't childish. Yoshi is more than aware of the memes that're being made over GNB's current SFX. To believe otherwise is ignorance; just look at his reaction in the latest live letter, spending an hour thereabouts discussing the more unsavory side of this game's community.
He knows his team dun goof'd in 5.01, but to revert to the original SFX would alienate the original SFX's dissenters, while maintaining the current status quo only creates more and more memes. Trying to reredo the SFX will take dev time as well, so what's a guy to do?
answering or not the question it's pretty much irrelevant, at least they answer to this compared to any DRK request wich is again and again the only job they love to ignore while the rest of the jobs get love in a way or another, i think the behavior is on the DEV team on this case but back to the topic the old dissenters just make 1 small threat asking for the explosions sounds being more stronger while the current dissenters create polls, a large threat, memes and even a mod against SE terms of use to get the quality we want on GNB and they refuse again and again on revert/rework.
It take less than a month to change and implement the current ones and have been pass several months after that, what is taking to long? the answer is nothing, it's taking to long bcs they are doing nothing about it and instead they preffer to "talk" about the unsavory side of the community, a unsavory side they could have avoid if they did things properly and a unsavory sides that just raised when shadowbringers was launched.
in resume going back to the original SFX or even have a mix like the current mod would get more benefic that anything, heck even going back to the old ones it will be way better since the old ones didn't raised the amount of complains they are getting now, i sometimes belive they did it on purpose to deviate our attention of tanks problems to this so they can't avoid the urge to make the large changes the role and several jobs need.
I have to agree with Shao on this one.
The longer this issue drags out, the more apparent and protracted the outrage becomes. I can't speak for Dark Knight as I played MCH at launch back in Heavensward, but I know the class and it's issues never gained nearly as much traction as what's going on with Gunbreaker currently. I've seen the mod in action on Youtube and how it takes both the new explosions and the old sword sounds and mixing them perfectly. All of their work is already done and it makes everyone happy if they were to just re-appropriate that material for official distribution.
I wouldn't have bee playing 14 so long if I didn't like the developers behind it. Yoshi-P made such a strong impression on me years ago, and him and the others do really great work, given the budget and time they have. However lately, they've been a little less than stellar. I don't hate them for it, I'm just disappointed.
Edit: This isn't to say I'm not happy with Shadowbringers, the story, the music, the voice acting and other amazing qualities. I consider the MSQ for SHB to be on par with how great HW was. I am beyond thankful that I managed to get through the base expansion's story before GNB's audio was changed, as I suspect my opinion would've been soured if I did not complete the MSQ by 5.01. (I hope they hire Edward Dogliani to do more work with them, he was magnificent as Vauthry.)
My preference would be the old sword sounds, and the current explosion sounds. Similar to the one in a mod a pc friend of mine showed me that I'm more than a little jealous of >>
Moreover, I think they should add a stabbing sound to the final continuation, and change the blasting zone's electronic windup sound to something more down to earth.
In general though I think yoshi-p and team should start listening to and consulting players properly before any major changes and actually make changes/improvements when possible, not in several years time.
Look at all the healer forums for example. A 45 page thread of healers who've downed their magic because the devs refused to listen and still refuse to when asked questions.
As an ex DRK main, we're still waiting for when we will go back to having our job rather than being a WAR knockoff.
I tried to post again.

Considering it’s s very trivial fix, I’ll vote yes to see if this outcry does go on deaf ears after all
I prefer the old sounds, the new sounds remind me of a club.
I've actually just unsubbed now, it's gotten old and I'm sick of them not listening to us after this long. I haven't given up but really... between tanks being easy as is to play and this audio change just sounding horrible... I can't anymore. Love how in the audio video they released they talk about the gunbreaker sounds but showcase the old sounds in it rather than these new hammer ones.
Thanks free login campaign for once again letting me come here and say that it is still ridiculous that they have nothing to show on the matter nearing on a year after the release of Shadowbringers.
Then again my disappointment with the GNB situation is only part of the reason why I'm remaining unsubbed except for major story patches. Even then it's getting hard to justify paying for this extremely formulaic release cycle.
Looking on this topic so often I have to wonder if any of their team even look at the forums anymore...
They do.
They look at r/ffxiv as well.
