There is ''different'' enjoyment in this game. Some people RP, some raiding, some do all of it, some people just afk and do a roulette few times a week . What I'm saying is, there is so much a person can accept till it's no longer enjoyable. However, this game is fine to play with 100-200 ping, I've played with worse and it was fine. However improvements will always make something more enjoyable :). Like some people said, it's silly to ''quit'' because they got 20-30 more ping.

I'm pretty sure the Titan issue wasnt caused by my ping at the time but rather my ISP. (it was a crappy military-provided ISP and it was down more often than it was up, but when it was up, I didnt have much issue playing with my high ping. So all the 'Waaaah! I have 100-200ms ping now' cry-babies should really just wait until the servers come back up and then see if it really affects them.

(and yeah, I used a VPN for better routing tables also)

I live in Oregon and my ping went from 108 to 50.

I don't think you understood what I was saying still, gripes are more then just ping.

I would take these tracert and ping results as a grain of salt at best.

Wait about three hours for the servers to (hopefully) come back up before doing anything drastic/crazy/stupid.

In fairness, the 'feel' of latency is relatively subjective. While I agree that people are being drama queens, to an extent, I can definitely tell the difference between 100 and 190ms ping. Hell, I can tell the difference between wired and wireless mice, which is why I insist on wired mice for my computers. My ping to the Montreal servers was relatively low (I'm in Wisconsin), but I noticed input lag there, too. It was most noticeable while Gathering (sometimes I could swing my pickaxe more frequently; other times, there was a noticeable gap between when my last action finished and my next action could begin). I rarely noticed it in combat as well, particularly with things like Cleric's Stance.

That's not to say people can't get used to it, and it doesn't necessarily hinder AoE avoidance, but I don't think it's accurate to dismiss 100 to 190 ping as a trivial concern.

WTFast / Battleping cannot magically improve latency generated by sheer distance. The only advantage these services provide is helping avoid 'bottlenecked' routing points. Earlier I was getting around 105ms... now it's 138ms. Route didn't change, but there's a massive latency increases between two points on NTT's backbone where there wasn't before (Seattle and San Jose). I guess this is the quality infrastructure I can expect from here on out unless I pay for a VPN to route around it. Thanks, SE.

Edit: oh joy, there's packet loss that starts at the same hop and carries through to the destination, too.

We're used to playing with far less latency and it will take a long time to adjust- some moreso than others. I've played other games with servers out in California and my ISP does not often pick the best route to get my data from Point A to Point B. Heck my friend and I played LoL for a while with a ping that constantly hovered between 120~150 and it was awful (large part of why I quit despite playing since it was freshly out of beta). It just kind of sucks to not live on or near the West Coast if you play online games. I'm not gonna unsub or start failing in raids or anything like that, I'm just a little bummed.

You do understand they are still setting up the equipment right? The whole reason everyone is hanging out on the forums.

My girlfriend lives in Canada and she just watched her ping go from 100 to 480.

Playing from.EU, old DC meant around 140-170 ms for me, which often enough meant that oGCD use was wonky, and in case of playing Healer, caused issues with 'stance dance', or caused my DRG to do DRG things like drop BotD or die.

If my connection now drops to 200+ latency, I'm going to unsub, unless SE pays for the 'Gamer VPN' for me, or provides a no-restrictions chartransfer for free.

SE can't control what quality of service those providers serve. All they can do is make sure the connection from their data center to the rest of the internet is as good as it can be. It's your ISP that decides how to get your information to SE's servers, not SE.

This is incorrect. NTT's internal routing is responsible here. Your ISP just gets you onto their backbone, then their internal routing dictates how to get you to the server.

That would imply America gives a shit about its internet infrastructure problems. They don't. Not unless we get massive overhauls and other fancy bits regarding the FCC, it's going to be tedious.

I'm east coast....went from 30-40 to 80-90. Still 2 digits, so probably won't notice a difference in actual gameplay.

I think most of the high pings are due to the way your ISP routes your internet traffic. Seems like they like to take the longest route possible. So before going off the bandwagon and blaming SE, please check the way that your ISP routes your internet traffic.

Also, I believe that it could depend on how old your equipment that you use to connects to the internet. Things to question is: Is your Cable/DSL modem new or order? How old is the Cable or Phone line going from the pole to your home? Things do wear out over time and doesn't perform to it's standards and should be replaced. Plus, if you have all newer equipment, that doesn't mean that your ISP has newer equipment. All we know is that they can be using outdated stuff and also that can effect your performance even if you have newer equipment at your house or where you live.

But I do feel for the people who plays outside of the US that plays on the NA Servers. I feel that no matter where SE placed the Servers, it wouldn't of gotten any better for you.

Actually, that makes me laugh at everyone checking their connection while SE is probably flooding their connection right now moving files. Unless for some reason they actually shipped the current servers to the new location and thought they could set it all up in 2 days. Possible, but a pain in the butt.

Well, maybe it wouldnt get any better, but they actually made WAY worse for a lot of people. Ok, its better for some people from US, but honestly, going from 90 to 50 is basically a 0 difference, gameplaywise. Meanwhile, my ping went from 180 to 260. Its already not so easy to adapt to a high ping, specially if you raid or if you use classes that have a lot of double weaving skills and shit like that on rotation. But with 260 ping its honestly really REALLY hard and probably not even worth to try.

Will be interesting to see how this will affect me all the way in New Zealand, then again I've learnt to adjust to a constant 300+ ping so it doesn't really bother me much.

People are reflecting the correct amount of credit they deserve, this is what you run into when you lack communication, it is deserving. For me, they have not shown they did any research on what the best location may be for ping values. I suspect they do not care because under 200 ms= playable, and so far I do not see proof of that. Even at 40 ms I need to know the fights and predict the moves otherwise I will be hit even though I am out of the circle. People complain about cleric being weird at times when it comes to clicking it, unresponsive it is called, again this has to do with the poor processing with the servers and the lag I am referring to. So our only hope is the processing power really hits the mark and that under 200 ms = playable is truly the case. They are assuming this will be the case so they did not care about researching ping values for different locations for different people.

I agree with the point, but disagree on the waiting thing in specific for this moment. We need to wait and actually test the game, the old servers where very bad and we may see improvements despite the increased ping.

Use 1 ogcd in between gcds, remember the cast needs to finish the recast before the next one, doing only one ogcd in between gcd should not clip. however the new servers may process better, so never know.

Yeah this is why a more center place would been better. Too little people get something out of it, and those that do is a little amount, while more people lose out while for higher amounts.

On the left is my friend. He lives in southern NJ and has to use Comcast (no other providers in his area). On the right is me. I live in northern DE and chose Verizon (Comcast is also available here). We both pinged the same address at the same time and got very, very different results. The geographic difference between our locations is negligible when we're pinging out to CA- but his times are almost double mine. How your ISP routes your information matters far more than your physical location if you're in NA connecting to a NA server. He's going to have to use WTFast or something similar to re-route the information to get his latency down to match mine despite us living just an hour and a half apart.

Also, we won't know for sure where they're going to be until they're live, so save the panic for when they're up and you can no longer dodge landslides in Titan EX. :P

Well seeing as how I live in a part of California that literally has the worst internet speeds in ALL of California I am happy about where it is being moved. Went from 107ms to 67ms with 5 less hops. All of this is good because ever since it rained in Cali about a month in a half ago, the game has been unplayable do to constant packetloss and Comcast does not give a crap. So at least now if I still get packetloss and spike should not last as long.

That is reality for the US ISPs. Square Enix should have known this. The reality is that the ISPs give less of a crap than Square Enix does, and that's pretty sad.

And no amount of equipment is going to change this. So thus, I place all blame on Square Enix at this time for their ridiculous decision.

Something I just noticed is my tracert is giving me a weird pathing because the IPs were in Cali earlier today and is now showing up in Michigan. Before anyone decides they need to unsub, give the internet a little bit of time to figure out what path it needs to be taking.

I don't blame them at all for upgrading the servers. We're going to be seeing the benefits very soon with Stormblood. More capacity and power is not a bad thing at all.

I do not agree, however, with the radio silence about where the new servers will be until we find out for ourselves. They could have avoided a lot of panic and ill-will by disclosing the state or general area in the initial announcement. However, we will have to wait and see. The quality of the new hardware and the infrastructure immediately surrounding it could well outweigh the increased distance for many people.

I ran simultaneous pings from computers on the East Coast (Philadelphia) and West Coast (Seattle) to 204.2.229.9. Seattle averaged 35ms, Philadelphia averaged 80ms. If your ping is huge, or becomes huge, I suspect there may be something else going on.

Never mind, I see they are pingable now. I'm 1500 miles from Sacramento and I get 47ms to both. I don't think it's going to be as bad as people think.

Personally I'm seeing about an 8-10ms reduction, so from 60-70ms to 52-60ms. I'm on a fiber connection so my speeds and latency tend to be pretty consistent to my ISP, but despite all that the servers have felt rather laggy for the last 6-12 months, especially during peak hours even if my own connection showed no noticeable difference in latency. My best guess is that the data center was previously overloaded, and the details SE have given us for part of the reason to move the data center was just that. Since my ping is apparently not changing much, I might be in a good position to get a feel for if the new data center is better capable of hosting the game and has less latency due to not being overloaded.

In other words, a ping of 10ms wouldn't mean much if the server was overloaded and took 200ms just to process the input, so if the cause of lag for most people was related to server overloading, they might notice improved gameplay even with increased ping times.

.. .. you mean to say, such a thing as a rain has an effect to your internet connection? While I couldn't have even imagined such a predicament, more so from supposedly developed country, I'm starting to understand the worries.
