I've used LB3 as white Mage so I can OT certain mobs with Holy/Assize bombs. Totally unnecessary but i felt like Hulk Hogan body slammin Andre the Giant.

Or option #3: The healer hasn't worked out their comfort level yet.
I stance dance, but only when I am comfortable with a dungeon. If I don't know the mechanics well enough, I would hate to lose a tank due to some kind of burst damage that I didn't know was coming. Mainly because I can't count how many times I've accidentally double-clicked that stupid stance and am forced to gimp heal for 10 seconds lol
I love it when everything goes wrong. And I don't mean people just dying to an AoE. I mean day 1 Ozma wipes. In those occasions I also leave my co healer dead because this feeling that I get after getting the party through all this shit successfully solo, is just so orgasmic.
Sometimes I help dps but without CS..... Iam still helping :o
I rather heal DF parties as well. I get trolled so hard sometimes that I let my friends/FC people die on purpose.
I ran Castrum as SCH with a WHM co healer who not even used protect, Stoneskin II, or popped the things. She didn't even bother healing and was in CS the entire time and died. We all left her copse to rot after the first boss.
Ran Aery as AST last night with my boyfriend (he was leveling his bard at the time). I let him die because he was talking in FC and didn't move out of the menacing orange circle. In the same run when we were near Nidhogg, we wiped because I wasn't paying attention. Tank died. Then both DPS dropped like it was hot and all I said was 'sorry lag'. Tank and DPS said it was okay. My boyfriend on the other hand... Was staring at me like "are you for real?"
Confessions huh...
When the tank runs out without getting protect i have the urge to not cast it for them another time. =_= I end up casting it tho...
This happened to me a few night ago. I get Hullbreaker from expert roulette with 3 pug friends. They run off and had started the first trash pull before my PS3 had loaded me into the instance. I run in a cast protect but I don't target anyone and I only get me and a caster dps. The pack dies and the tanks runs off out of range while I'm trying to protect him. Tank does it again. I don't heal the next pull and let him die. When he starts over, he lets me know exactly how he felt about it for about 20 minutes with his friends. I end up getting kicked.
You have those 4 man DF runs sometimes where it's obvious youre with a group of friends. Most of the time it makes for an awesome time. I get bored and troll people sometimes so I try to play along a little when I'm being trolled.
I glad I let this douchebag die...
Had a tank who was tanking for the first time in Halatali.
He moved too close to the 2nd group of mobs and pulled the bombs along with the 3 mobs. He made no effort to pull the mobs off other players, so I was healing 3 people and the tank died.
He says "Heal pls". (You couldn't at least spell "please"? It's 2 more letters...)
So, I did just that. Every time the tank went below 90% health I healed him. Didn't try to take care of the adds in the first and last boss. One of the DPS also made no effort to take care of them either.
So instead of healing / DPSing 50/50 like I usually would in such a dungeon, I Healed 95% and DPS 5%.
It makes me really mad when a tank says "heal please" even though he is the one who accidentally pulled to many mobs and then didn't bother to grab aggro.
It was the first time I was ever told "heal pls" in my life. So yeah, hopefully first and last time.
Hahahahahaha, this is amazing. If I were in their shoes I would 100% respond to it and DPS properly - whether I had a legitimate reason for not doing so or not. I'm genuinely just laughing imagining that scene though; I like your way of thinking.
I very seldom commend anyone for simply doing their role, as demeaning to your efforts as that may sound. Were I in your shoes, I'm obviously going to try and pick up the slack too, but I'm unlikely to give anyone any more recognition for "carrying" than I would for them trying and failing - the same way I wouldn't expect recognition for doing so myself. If said person was a mute or had an attitude then chances are that I'm not going to commend them. I'd honestly favour an upbeat party member who failed a lot, apologised for doing so and cheered the survivors on than someone who's only apparent quality in that specific run was simply playing with a level of competence.
Anyways, my point is that everyone has their own personal way of determining what warrants their commendation. For me, skill plays a small part in that. Attitude and personality are most important to me, but if the entire team was essentially mute or of the "gg" variety then I'll probably commend the person who carried if I were to commend anyone at all.
"Point of Advice. Did you know? Spells sometimes have a cast time, you must give those spells a moment before they work."
I said this to a Paladin who stayed in Sword Oath once, forcing me to try to keep up with healing him by using all my lustrates. He died, I swiftcast revive but in the end we wipe anyways.
He respawns first but is already running ahead. He didn't give me a moment to get protect on everyone before hand as he keeps running out of range. When he got on my case I told him protect is kinda needed, he said if I'm a healer I should swiftcast it in that instance. I let him know that the swiftcast was used to revive him prior and it was still in cooldown. Buuuuut if they don't want out buffs, it's their problem.
I...I may have let the tank die today just to get off another Gravity to finish off a mob pack in ex roulette today. Muh deeps.
I'll never waste a Swiftcast on protecting a tank that wants to run off. Call me a shitty healer for it if you want. They can either stay within range for 2 seconds or they can go without it. Especially if the tank is getting lips and is letting aggro run wild. Chances are they don't get healed either.
Soooo I trial roul'd into Levi storymode, last night... I haven't been in there without FC, and NOT in EX, in so long that I:
a.) Forgot when to go trigger the barrier, even while I was right near it (because one of my FC mates insists on doing it, so I never bothered) :x;;
b.) No one was getting the adds so I ended up tanking them. Regened myself so I can continue DPSing them. But then the SCH was the only one trying to help me at that point, so they ended up with one. by the end of the adds phase, I realized I had an aspected regen on myself, the SCH, and both the tanks.... effectively regening half the party + aspected helios regen (because solo healing EX habit).
And then I remembered laughing about a recent post about a WHM regening an entire party rather than Medica II-ing.
D: SO MUCH OVERHEAL. \o/
(I had reason!? \o/ .....*commits seppuku* |||OTL)
I have a 90% wipe rate on the first pull of Aurum Vale NM because by the time I figure out why I can't Shadowflare the tank needs a lustrate. Which of course, you don't have at 49. There is alwaysan awkward silence as the tank dies without a single spell going out from the healer.
I went into a DF and the first thing the tank said was "You better use Cleric Stance." So I healed using Cleric Stance without DPS until the tank yelled at me to use Cleric Stance again. When I said I was he told me to DPS so I followed him around spamming Miasma 2 for the rest of the instance. I got both DPS coms.
I ran Palace of the Dead the other day as healer, and got myself into a group with 3 dps at one of the deeper floors. We were already dealing with 2-3 mobs, then the third dps came running in with at least three more in tow. I deliberately let him die rather than healing him, because I was sure we wouldn't survive the whole pack without a proper tank and I didn't want them all to come after me instead. And because he was the only one with aggro on them, after his death they all returned to their spawn points and left the rest of us alone. I still consider it a sound tactical decision.
When I have to step away for brief moments and someone dies. I make sure to stay in the same spot for up to 30 seconds, then blame lag lol.
I have a bad habit of letting DPS who try to off-tank or not FF tank's target die. I'll warn them once, then if they do it again, I let them die and say, "Now what did we learn?"
I don't agree with that, it's both their faults. Sure a tank should be able to hold aggro, but it's also a DPS' job to watch aggro and follow the tanks target to make sure they don't pull hate. It's why you get aggro control moves like quelling strikes. I have to do this on my BLM all the time, especially in low level dungeons.
A good DPS shouldn't be following the tanks targets... the goal is to have them all die at the same time for AoE efficiency.
A good DPS should AoE and/or attack the highest health target (unless there's a high priority target like a Wasp/Bee with Final Sting that needs to be bursted down)
Yeah they shouldn't purposely take hate, but there are times where it's impossible not to because the tank is just terribad.
And sometimes, you go from zero hate to red in one or two attacks because the tank isn't spamming flash enough or alternating targets. That doesn't make it the DPS' fault.
There are definitely times where I "off-tank" because the tank just doesn't handle hate.
Also the tank needs to learn to get back hate when you pull it away. There should never be an instance where a DPS can take a mob away from a tank for so long that they friggin' die.
Unless the tank is super undergeared and the DPS is being annoying on purpose, I can't for the life of me believe that taking hate is reason for them to die and slow the whole group's progress down for a stuck up healer to make a point.
You\\'re right there are times when a DPS can\\'t help but take hate from a terrible tank, but it\\'s honestly pretty rare. Just like there are situations where you\\'ll have DPS attack the wrong target and steal hate on purpose, which again is rare.
The point I was getting at though is you\\'re in a party, it\\'s everyone\\'s responsibility to make sure the run goes as smooth as possible. It\\'s about adjusting to your party members. So if you get a terrible tank, adjusting your play to help them keep hate is part of a DPS\\' job imo.
Now I\\'m not trying to agree about letting a DPS die because of them stealing hate ( it\\'s not something I personally do), just that there is more to learn. Situational awareness is important for all roles, not just a healer.
I have to confess that I secretly like it when I get bad players.
Ozma with 2 parties down has to be my favorite situation in the game right now.
Don't get me wrong, having to juggle DPS and healing in other content is fun in a way too, but if I want to focus on DPS, I play BLM, NIN or any of the other dps classes I have leveled.
So I'm kind of thankful for any fight in which people mess up so horribly that I 100% only have to be a pure healer^^
Usually I like to dps whenever possible for maximum run efficiency, but sometimes I go AST or WHM and just go in and keep the party topped off, occasionally putting a couple dots on if I get really bored. I don't do it very often but it's like a nice little breather from MAXIMUM EFFORT mode.
Everything I've seen says you shouldn't do group content when you don't want to play in a group oriented manner. Instead of joining into a dungeon and /dancing while casting 2 spells per pull you should go and craft or something.
Regardless, this thread is about those times you acted in a way you shouldn't have. Intentionally or otherwise. We've all not given our best, but that doesn't mean it's right when the guy you're grouped with is and your not.
Last night while playing as a Scholar I drag out physick's bottom from hotbar and disappeared. I freaked out trying to get it back and the whole party got wiped...Upsy!
so early today i did exr and i let a dragoon die to the 2nd boss at 25% hp left without raising because he kept jumping around (space bar jump, not a jump attack) and intentionally destroying walls with quasar and lightning cloud..
i let kept the tank and other dps alive while still throwing out le whm deeps tho! it's just that that drg was a full on derpgoon and was annoying me, so i let him die xD
That dungeon run when PLD runs in sword oath...
My confession: I don't raise Dragoons when they die due to not following mechanics or aoes (means 99% of times). Especially in Weeping... waste of MP, they are going to die in the next 2 min anyway.
Today in ARFroulette, I had two summoners. One was far better than the other and I gave him all my cards in hopes that he would remain consistent. The other summoner seemed to not be doing much aside from using ruin, and was being hit by multiple AoEs. I ended up allowing the worse summoner to die during the last fight and only SCascended her because the better summoner was wasting time reviving her.
I was feeling sadistic, so I decided to stop healing the last 10% of the final boss to see if she would die to the tether ball things. We killed it fast enough, though. Sadly.
I also happened to be getting pretty terrible cards that run, which likely contributed to my temporary thirst for blood.
The stars demand bloodshed on both sides. The fates of my allies and enemies have all been sealed.
