I always thought XIII did have elaborate styles. I mean, look at Lightnings sword o nthe front case, or the motorbike the Shiva sisters transform into. they're pretty flashy looking bits of hardware.

lol... i love how now the design is being hated on when awhile back weren't people crying over reskins and just little add ons to previous gear? This at least is original and new..
They're not terrible in design though the PGL weapon makes me puke with how...it doesn't look like a conventional weapon for H2H, and the ARC bow is way too heavy-looking to the point where it seems unfeasible to even lift it and fire. The wand looks like a cylinder than a real wand...
The rest of the weapons are stuff I'd expect in a Final Fantasy game, though...they look more 'normal' to Final Fantasy proportions. I just wish they'd redesign the h2h, bow and wand to be thinner or just looks more feasible to wield like thinning out the fat portions.
Overall I'd appreciate thinning out the size of the horns in the weapons. The subtle glows are pretty good.
really? really? the old weapons were classy? I think what you meant to say was this: "good bye bland, generic weapons that all look the same but have slightly different skins." These new weapons look amazing. you are crazy. this community is so ass backwards - cant believe people actually gave you thumbs up for that. This is final fantasy, and for the first time, they are being true to their IP.
And Cloud's buster sword, Yuffie's shuriken and Auron's sword were all perfectly acceptable and usable sizes...
Lol true enough.
I'd prefer FF to keep to it's roots rather than try to sit around a realistic idealism.
If giant monsters start appearing and trying to chew my face off, I don't want to be taking them on with a copper sword, I want to be stabbing them with something that looks like satan himself forged it from the fires of his own oven.

FFXIV devs, I would just like to apologize for how ridiculous some players are. They will never be happy no matter what you give them. They will always complain about stupid s*** and will never be satisfied no matter what direction you take.
P.S. GJ love the designs. The only one that's questionable is the Thm scepter with it's blue balls. ;)
Only issue I have with the weapons is for most of them it looks like a conversation happened.
Dev1: We need Ifirit battle loot! but what will it look like?
Dev2: Ifirit has horns right? We make weapons out of horns all the time!
Dev1: Great! Now lets just slam horns on everything and call it a day.
I don't mind the look of them or the glow, I just find it strange that every item just looks like they merged Ifirit .dat data into a weapon.
I don't like the weapons. They seem... gaudy. I like to run as a PUG, but I wouldn't use that weapon unless it had some amazing stats. Reminds me of the Monster Hunter games. Great franchise, but I don't feel that weapons like that fit well into this game. Looks like big chunks of a mob we kill and turn into a weapon. The glowing is nice for the "epicness" but I think they are a little too big. They look kind of blunt and soft too. Overall I am not dissapointed because the fight with Ifrit looks amazing in the video. Either way, I feel that SE is delivering well. I just don't like those weapons. :/
I have never played FFXI, so I cannot compare these weapons to anything from there. I have however played every FF console game. this is my first MMO, so maybe these designs are to be expected?
IT does't change the fact that the Bow and Knucks look completely ridiculous. The bow could have been made to have the fire and glow without like those wielding it should be falling forward from the weight.
All the other weapons look fine, even the gladiator sword. Where's my flaming fishing rod?
Makes Batraal look like a pussy, Ifrit will kill us all!!!
Maybe if they made the bow a bit smaller... BUT SET THE BOW STRING ON FIRE!!!! >:-D
I dont think i can read through 43 pages of comments. Has there been any word that you can fight ifrit multiple times?
If anything these weapons are monster hunterish
I thought a great sword was supposed to have weight as a factor in helping it overcome any kind of defense as it is nowhere near as versatile as a one handed sword?
I'm assuming ifrit's bow is made of rock and horn. Unless these are of styrofoam I highly doubt they'd have a good enough weight to support the aim/pull of a bow.
I wonder what the Japanese players are saying about these weapons...
I love them, just wished the Thm one looked more scepter looking.
Why do you guys keep bringing up weight... Come on, this is Final Fantasy. Stop comparing everything to real life.
Awesome job, SE. Now that's what I call appropriate loot (for a primal battle that is). :D

for those of you complaining about it being to Korean or outrageous, look at these JP game weapon art designs and implementation, you think what we have is OOT and huge, take a look at that polearm!
actually that even goes with pointing out it is nothing new to people saying "that bow is to big archer will fall over" that hammer is bigger than that chick and she is swinging it with easy. Which just proves, people want fan service a hot anime girl swinging a huge weapon.
Just stating I don't have a problem with the direction FFXIV is going it still has the appropriate world feel, after seeing those pictures and stating we aren't getting those weapons to model ratio I think it is safe to say we are fine.
You, and others like you, have allowed yourselves to become jaded to the point where now it doesn't matter what SE does. Your knee-jerk reaction will be to complain about it.
In your minds, you have a legitimate basis for your gripe, but in reality all you're doing is nitpicking.
Ifrit...awesome, the weapons...awesome....my issue? The damn area it takes place. Same with the beastmen strongholds, it shows how much i really dont like the current world. They seem to need to put everything in these piss poor zones instead of separate areas and it just gets to me and almost ruins those events for me.
...the world re-design can not come any quicker..
