It is easy, just need a few brain cells and the ability to communicate.
This fight took me 2 groups. on the last group 3 tries. The fight is fun and really not hard. Day one and a post about something being too hard comes out. This is insanely funny to me. I haven't even beat Turn 7 and its nerfed to the ground can't beat it because people think its too hard. how can this game ever expand on ideas or new forms of content because the first day people complain about how hard it is? I love that fight and will do it again just for fun. If this fight is too hard I wonder what is easy.
I think it's just needing communication, I tried it yesterday, after first "wipe" people just left. Didn't have time for a second try, so I'll be retrying today. But as far as I noticed in my run was that the communication was off. Tank didn't get the mobs near enough to be cannoned, and i could cannon them when the dragon was almost on me, so I had time just for 1-2 times to shot on them.
I haven't cleared it but; as far as I saw to get the trial done is: 8 people have to communicate and do what they are supposed to do.
My main complaint is that I do not like cannon bosses and that this entire fight structure is actually just a worse version of Monster Hunter, a game I do not get to play because I do not own a 3DS. S-E, please buy me a 3DS and I will feel less sour about this trial.
Finally beat it with the help of two FC members last night, my FC boss and another awesome dude
they both tanked, healers did snares and me and another guy cannoned nonstop, this strategy worked.
I was going to go in as a tank but we decided that if i cannon it would be best if I go in as DPS even tho my summoner is a lvl99
My FC guys coordinated the battle amazingly and as soon as everyone was comfortable with the situation after 2-3 tries we did it.
Problem is, I was less than good, in fact I was embarrassingly bad considering how good I normally was at this, I'd easily do cannons and snares no problem before but I was so exhausted after 24 hours of pugging this that well I was off my game and then some.
Man I owe my FC so much
such wonderful people, can't thank them enough.
They're always so nice to me.
still stand by what I was saying though
this is a terribly designed battle if only for the fact that it runs on its own time
I didn't really find it difficult at all. It just requires coordination.
The fight was not difficult once everyone knew what they were suppose to be doing and what to expect. I was in a DF group and it just took three tries.
Healer of choice for cannons: White Mage.
Reason:
White Mage can man cannons. After second set explode, run under the boss
And use PoM + holy spam (feel free to apply dots)
You can dump all your MP this way, and restore it to full before next cannons. This will also help clean up my lingering adds.
This trial is very well designed IMO. Considering we're dealing with dragons and Ishgardians, cannons make a fitting staple in this trial. After all, they've been involved in both Stone Vigils so far. And the fight is also such that high level gear doesn't trivialize the encounter, current difficulty is right on target as the last official battle of the 'A Realm Reborn' main story. Joining a blind party in the PF, my group took 1 attempt longer than a full lockout to down this, so groups with even 1 or 2 veterans should have little difficulty finishing the trial in 1 go.
It's not that hard.... Got through it after a single wipe in one DF attempt on my first time in. And that was with one tank in the first wipe (second tank proceeded to afk as soon as they got in, so they were kicked).
FC mate that was in first day got it done within a second DF attempt.
It has more to do with positioning the canons blasts/ADDs and knowing when to use the towers, etc than being 'too hard'..... and having enough DPS before he reaches the gate (which is what killed us the first time).
Coordination and awareness of surroundings.
Granted, I had a good party that weren't asshats in chat, but still >_>
I'm a really bad combatant. I cannot think on my feet, get out of most AoE's, etc. Crafting and gathering and other turn based, think in your own time-y things, that's what I enjoy. Even so, I was able to complete this fight. First time was via DF and it went horribly... Like really, REALLY bad. I was scared I'd hit my wall of content I couldn't get past and never see the rest of the story outside YouTube.
I walked away from the computer for a couple of hours and then came back and decided to give it another go. There was a half full PF group already up so I joined them. I stayed away from the cannons (because I can't aim or time worth a damn) and I just healed the tank and anyone else who got underfoot. We wiped but it wasn't a bad wipe. We wiped 3 times, none of them were aggro filled nightmares the DF had made this fight out to be.
In the end we won.
I can assure you that if I could get through a boss fight without being carried (as my FC does for me through most primal battles), actually doing my job, actually succeeding, then ANYONE can. I swear I suck ._. But we did it!
TL;DR: PF it guys, seriously. It makes all the difference in the world! If there isn't one up, make one.
Wait.. Too hard? We wiped twice but then realized what we had to do, and beat it. Just takes time, and have people willing to help.
Lao Shan Lang : The second coming.
*proceed to miss MHFU so bad.
Can SE make a monster hunter game please? I would play the shit out of it.
Seriously though, dragonslayer needs to hit. At least 2. I did it once with 2 shots and we just burned it down.
Its not hard. Its just different. I've cleared it a couple of times now and as long as at least three people know the mechanics and the rest can keep the adds under control and do some decent damage to the boss, he is quite killable.
The thing about this fight is its outside the box for what we are used to. It requires people to learn a new way of doing an encounter. This is a good thing as it allows for more dynamic and varied encounters in the future. Once people adapt how they perceive encounters you will see groups adapting far quicker.
in that type of situation only thing could be the issue is dps wasnt focusing boss and was on adds instead. was dynamite at end destroyed by adds? if so then that could be another reason boss didnt lose that much health. other then that cant figure out the issue unless cannons wasnt used correctly
Cannons probably were not hitting the boss. Aiming at his feet and firing non-stop will down him with room to spare alongside the shackles / dragonkiller. The mobs are really just a distraction, let them die by the cannons aoe if the tank gets them within it, never ever focus on the mobs.
I don't remember what happened to the Dynamite, honestly.
And the DPS seemed to be a mess. A huge one. Moments after the dragon was pulled all 4 of them ran to the cannons. And used cannons exclusively while they were still up. Then did a bit of DPS, died, and ran toward the new set of cannons. Meanwhile the 2 tanks and the healers were trying not to die and heal and tank and dps as much as possible.
It was just a rough group.
The Duty itself seems pretty balanced if people try and attempt to pull their weight.
Done this fight three times in Duty Finder. First attempt failed, second time got me the win, third time was an unfortunate Roulette that also failed.
Both of the failed times, we had one tank and one healer on the cannons, with a single tank trying to wrangle all the adds while the single healer tried to keep that tank and all the DPS alive. Any time we tried to have the DPS completely ignore the adds, they would eventually overwhelm us; the cannons just couldn't down them fast enough. Having the DPS burn down the BIG adds (Swinge-guy, turtle, wyrm, and Stone-Vigil-HM-guy) while the cannons took out the smaller adds seemed to work best; the big adds are the most dangerous, and even taking the time to kill them leaves a fair amount of time to DPS the boss. Still needed all three Dragonslayers to hit, though.
The time we succeeded, interestingly enough, we'd put two DPS on cannons, with a healer manning the Dragonslayers. With two tanks, gathering adds was much quicker and more efficient, giving the cannons more time to pound away at them. DPS damage vs the boss was much reduced, but the adds were dead much quicker allowing the tanks to join in the damage-dealing for long periods of time.
That said, I still have very little idea what the best strategy is for this in Duty Finder. A lot hinges on controlling the adds - in fact, I'd say that's the toughest part of the fight. The tank or tanks need to both hold the adds near the front or middle of the boss where the cannons can hit them, while still taking control of the additional adds that spawn to the sides and behind. The more they run around gathering adds, the harder it is for the cannons to hit the adds that are up. Two tanks can gather adds more easily, at the cost of DPS, but I'm guesing a single tank could do this if DPS were smart enough to pull the adds to the tank, rather than requiring the tank go collect them.
I'm guessing the meta-game will settle on a single strategy eventually, but right now there doesn't seem to be a lot of concurrence as to what the "correct" method to do this fight is.
Hold the adds infront of the boss, as his attacks also hurt them, there's almost no reason for the dps to leave the dragon this way. The boss's attacks and the cannons are the best way of killing them especially since they can stun the armoured one too, just like in stone vigil.
I just did this last night with my FC, the majority of us going in for the first time, and we cleared it on our second try. We had one person who had done it before who told us what roles to take. We wiped the first time figuring out how it all worked, and the second time we died tons because we hadn't quite gotten the hang of it all, but we still cleared... with under a second to spare. Vishap had bodyslamed the final gate twice and was charging the final slam when we downed him.
We had the OT and the OH (SCH) on cannons non-stop, a BRD on towers, a PLD MT (me), and a WHM MH (my spouse - made communication easy since we were sitting next to each other). I pulled all of the adds, trying to position them in front of the boss at all times, and cannons hit the adds first (preferably hitting the boss at the same time) and then the boss when there were no adds. Three DPS only attacked Vishap and ignored the adds, with the fourth doing the same except when we were at a tower.
A few tips -
- Interrupting the turtle's massive AoE is useful. Don't waste stuns on her little one.
- The Holy Shield Dragons (Marraco's cousins) can Swinge. If you see one, focus target it so you can tell when it's swinging and get out of the way if possible.
- If you are MH and draw aggro, pull the adds in front of the boss and/or to the MT.
- Note that if you die, you respawn with full HP but 0 MP. It may actually be worth it to use raises on the MT or MH just so they have some MP to work with.
- WAR MTs can recover from death easier since they can AoE without MP (Overpower), but PLD MTs can survive a large set of adds even with the MH dead (Hallowed Ground). I used HG twice that fight and it was incredibly helpful both times. When the MT dies with a ton of adds on her, the adds rush the cannons and become hard for the cannons to target.
- Transcendents ignore aggro and behave like the final boss of Stone Vigil (Hard).
- If you have a bunch of adds when you get to the powder kegs (and I think some spawn right there?), have the MT drag the adds in front of the kegs so they die from the AoE along with Vishap taking damage.
- When Vishap gets close to a gate, don't be standing near the gate. His AoE is too fast to get out of in time.
If the healer hangs out near the tank in front, they'll be a natural aggro magnet and most of the adds will run straight for them anyway. The exception are the adds that go straight for the canons (some Aevis, a few others too.)
The fodder NPCs are pretty useless in this fight, but I've seen them swarm down on the adds going for the canons, and if you can keep that add from creaming them for even 20 seconds, they can take care of DPSing it down before helping with the other adds.
yup, been in this thing about 10 times and haven't finished it yet. No one takes their roles seriously. Dumbest thing to ever put in the main scenario as a team exercise. I would rather have done this with NPC's because they would at least know their roles and if I failed the duty, I know it would be my fault alone that it would fail.
It'll be awhile before we get the level of trolling brought to use by the likes of CT, ST, WoD, and SCoB I believe. Btw, did any of you run into that player named Iron Giant while trying to stop IG's from cleaving the comet in the Behemoth fight? Not fun.
I've done the trail three times total. For myself, then helping FC mates a couple of times.
I've never come out of the instance unsuccessful by the end. In fact, in my most recent attempt we didn't even need the last set of snares.
The trial can be rather difficult when people aren't prepared, especially because it's so different. But if everyone knows their roles it's quite the walk in the park.
I just did it last night. The first group was a cluster F like many of you claim. We failed. The second group was much more organized and we did it easily. From what I learned:
main tank keep adds in the front of the boss. O/T collect new adds and bring them to the pile. DPS focus boss unless one of the BIG adds is up, like the turtle, then focus that. Cannon people take out the smaller adds.
We had him almost dead 3-5% hp left by the time we got to the crates.
I've yet to do this, but this sounds more like the case of "easy unless people don't work together/listen to advice and instructions." That was certainly the case with my first time in Chrysalis. Did some research before the run and the mechanics are dead easy to follow, but (not accounting learning the fight and getting into the flow) despite some instruction given as progress went, some people did things contrary to what they were told. :T
In short, the trials aren't hard, people behind the keyboards make it hard.
For the chrysalis, the challenge was surviving the white room. One suggestion I had read eas having everone gather by the tank before getting sucked in and the tank using the LB but I didn't try it because I felt leaving it for a dps attack on the tear was better. I popped holy ground and sprint before getting sucked in and then zoomed out as far as I could so I could see which meteor was lowest close to me. For the bridge I joined an in progress group and they had me man cannons. We succeeded on my first run of it with them. I think both are cool in their own way.
Yeah, our LBs were saved for DPS on the tear in the white room. A few times, people were slow to switch to it. After a few messy runs, we got it down via DF. It's a bit of a shame, because it is an interesting fight.
Today shall be a foray into Steps, hopefully my soul won't feel half dead by the time I finish it. ~_~
Actually, you need just one kind of people in DF to clear it. And that's people who can follow instructions.
Like, a tank who you can say "bring the mobs to the front part of the boss", and he doesn't INSIST on tanking them at the back, even as you tell them OVER AND OVER AND OVER how EACH AND EVERY WIPE was his fault for INSISTING in doing what he wants to do instead of what needs to be done to get a clear.
I agree with the OP. This "trial" is bullshit across the board.
How it's bullshit as it relates to the story:
A giant winged dragon leisurly strolls across a bridge to nowhere and never directly attacks anything except glowy walls it could fly over anyhow. Meanwhile, it's pooping out additional nasties to deal with the mild threat from adventureres.
How it's bullshit as it relates to advancement:
You cant progress without beating it. You lose access to a roulette without beating it.
How it's bullshit as a trial:
It's nearly impossible to pug. You can't simply wipe to reset - you must wait to suck (you can fail 4 minutes in, but gotta wait 11 to restart).
Other bullshit:
If you are stuck on cannons, you may as well come as a weaver or goldsmith; your fighting skills will go largely unused untill the end. May as well craft till he's in range. I havnt't seen the point to "healing" this yet. We literally completed this with 8 DDs the other day. It's not fun. You cant even LEEEROOOOY it, because there is no threat of wipe.
About the only thing you can say about it is that "it's interesting" or "it's different". I dunno about others here, but If I ate hamburgers every day for a month and saw a pile of rat shit, I wouldn't eat it because its interesting or different.
If this is the direction SE is going w/ 3.0.... *facepalm*
It's depend on the party you have. Me too, i was like damn ill never do this but i was lucky. I end up with a party in DF that was kinda smart we talk before start for strategy we decide a new tactic that made us WIN before the dragon destroy the gate before the last dragon killer missile tower.
I want people to try it few time to show proof it can be done cos its was for us.
first... on add .. higher ilvl def tank and higher ilvl healer. (the high healer pull mob to tank and tank grab add in front)
second.... second tank and second healer (on cannon) the tank stay on cannon till it get destroy ... healer get off before and heal tank
third.... All DPS on Boss ... Preferable 3 long range DPS if you want a melee for limit break ... or all 4 (1 BLM/SMN) for meteor on boss and add to help ......And DPS long range fight on the side not under since healer pull them running under
fourth ..... 1 DPS long range(BRD as best) do damage while getting ready to go on the tower when done go down fast to keep damage the boss. To change side best to go front behind the dragon(boss) while shooting the boss to get ready for the next tower.
fifth to help when a Strong add is almost dead AOE the ADD so some damage go on the add and boss :)
that how we did it ..if more try it and work for them we will have a guide ^^
i did it. i was ilvl114 BRD on tower duty ^^
I slightly disagree with you (Overall I agree). Put your weakest DPS and Weakest healer on the cannon(Preferably SCH so the fairy can still backup heal). I solo healed it as WHM (ilvl 117) without a problem yesterday while the other Healer just used the cannon. We had it down right before the exploding barrels and still had LB to boot.
The mobs hit me for like 300 dmg per hit on a squishy healer. Imagine them hitting the tank now.
A slight tip i can add to this. Tank the adds near the front of the belly, once the cannons can hit it keep them there until the cannons are gone. This makes it easy for the cannons to deal with the adds and maximizes your DPS uptime.
You obviously haven't followed the story much then. The bridge leads to the city of Ishgard itself. Heck, the last gate is the gate directly to Ishgard. The glowy walls aren't walls. They're wards. They're made specifically to counter dragons, and one of their purposes is to prevent the flight of the Draconians over into Ishgard. As for why it ignores you; why would a bear waste time with the bees when it could charge straight for the honey?
I would think people are sick of fetch quests and talking to NPCs as part of the story. Why don't you complain about those? For those are far more mundane and boring than a fight. As for roulette; it's there to help people who queue for it without having to wait a millenia to get their queue. You'll have to unlock it for story anyway, so what's the point of complaining about it locking a roulette?Quote:

Use those other minutes to practice then. See where you can improve. if you're twiddling your thumbs, it's on you for not improving your game. The boss isn't going anywhere; refine your tactics, have your tank practice tanking near the front of its bellies, have your DPS practice alternating between roles, practice using cannons so you are prepared for your next turn.Quote:

As for pugging. If the pugs you get into are CONSISTENTLY not being able to clear after 2 to 3 attempts, I'm pretty sure it's not your party but your own skills that are questionable.
8 DDs? Only if you keep suiciding and rezzing, meaning you have no MP or TP because you have hate instantly, so I'm heavily doubting this claim. If you're stuck on your thumbs on cannons, then you're not doing your role properly. What happens when the two cannons are gone and he is pounding on the wall? Are you going to lick its feet or do some damage?Quote:

Seems to me that you're just grasping at anything to hate this fight.
