Fame is something I definitely agree with. Would be nice to have an overarching reason for doing all these side quests, so that you can gain more advanced and interesting ones as you become more famous :D
(Don't add in quests that are repeatable turn ins to rack up fame though, those sucked. On the other hand, perhaps dont make getting fame quite as harsh as FFXI)
EDIT: Also, PLEASE don't bring back PlayOnline, it was the ultimate in tedium. Quite frankly I'm amazed anyone's suggested bringing it back, it made logging into FFXI so much more of a hassle.

Yeah... Part of the allure to the game, (or at least as it was advertised), was that they had turned FFXI into something that didn't take hours upon hours to complete a single goal. That's why I bought the game. I was hoping that it was true, and that it would be just as fun and magical as FFXI. Turns out I was wrong.
Can I get every single class from FFXI? Oh, and a battle system that doesn't have active/passive mode. Good animations for spells and abilities, and Main Job / Subjob combos.

Instead of making a new thread I'll reply to this. I was a very long time FFXI player. FFXI started my MMO life, it got me hooked, and though I did leave for other games it is and always has been my favorite MMO. I lost interest with the constant grind and constant need to group just for simple tasks like experience.
I had very high hopes for FFXIV, sadly I was let down. I think FFXIV has some great features, mostly the ability to somewhat solo. I haven't leveled very high at all but what I did get, I got alone. The graphics is amazing, though I would prefer the system of FFXI with each zone being separate from one another.
You ask what I would want from FFXI to be in FFXIV? Everything. I truly wish that SE would make FFXIV just an updated version of FFXI. There is only a few things I would not like from FFXI to be added. That would be the crafting system, way to tedious, annoying, rewards not worth the work most of the time, and just painfully hard to level up. Granted I think grouping is great, the constant need for it should come down a notch. I do believe it's possible to offer both options and that's something I would love to see.
As the OP listed, housing of some sort is just a FFXI trademark to me. Yea, other games have it, but who has it with a spinning moogle? And the number one thing that I would give life and limb for (yea, that's a little over board but I want to express how much I love it and want it back) is the job/sub-job system and all jobs on one character. That is ultimately my most favorite design from FFXI compared to any other MMO I've played and I've played alot.
I'd take my mnk/nin over Pugilist any day, my drg/war over Lancer. And for the love of god give me Samurai back! Corsair, bard, thief with SATA anyone? FFXI's job system is one of it's strongest features imo.
As much as I'd love to make a new post with listing every detail that I'd love to see from FFXI in FFXIV, I fear it would just cause a huge flame war. I am curious if anyone else agrees with me? I have several friends that I met on FFXI that I still talk to that agrees.

i agree with the OP on the party seeking feature. The recruitment system we have right now is a joke, and goes pretty much unused due to it being so clunky to use.

Seeking party feature for sure the lfg in game atm is very lacking needs a complete ui overhaul and made more user friendly it practically needs to have a required reading technical manual to operate and is too one sided not everyone in the party can be the party leader so its not practical for everyone else to find parties without being the leader this doesnt make much sence but yeah.
There needs to auction house front end for retainers they need to be able to ferry your stuff to ah for you without being fixed in a specific ward but work if they are also..
