It's the same reason Romancing Saga was praise back in the day. Same reason Seiken Densetsu 3 was considered the best back in the day. In america it's mostly Final Fantasy.

An RPG is indeed defined by story (Role-Playing Game..how do you get into a role of someone with no storyline?), well back when people actually were able to read and comprehend storylines in video games, these days sure an RPG isn't defined by story.

except it wasn't, at all. in any facet. and it's already lost half its player base before even hitting the 2 month mark. you know why? because it promised a lot of crap it didn't deliver on.

great PR campaign. highly effective. maybe the best PR campaign i've seen for an MMO in ages, if not ever. but it basically did what politicians do: lie for personal benefit. and that's pretty gross.

i'll take an honest, less-flashy PR campaign over a web of lies and overstatements any day.

what did gw2 lie about? I also i dont think it was overhyped.

For a F2P mmo its a really good game. Also its less important if it has lost some population since theres no subs. Looking forward to the GW2 expansion. I am a pvp player so i probally like GW2 more then someone who hates pvp.

FFXIV 1.0 is the definition of over-hyped and web of lies. Takana said his game would compete with wow. I also kept reading wow-killer when looking for ffxiv info. Especially after FFxiv beta where we were promised that the game was much better.

GW2 was just overhyped, it's not completely terrible but it's not the second coming it was made out to be. Remember the hype around SWTOR and Tera? People like them but after awhile it's up to the developers to keep that hype satisfied.

Well for a casual mmo i feel gw2 is really good. Also its pvp and action based combat is pretty good compared to other mmos.
I can see where people who are really hardcore pvers would feel disappointed.

But realistically and logically a F2P MMo is not going to kill wow in the PVE Endgame department. WoW's PVE content quality will be unmatched for a longtime.

I really doubt FFXIV 2.0 PVE is going to be anywhere close to WoWs. Especially going from what we have in 1.0.

GW2 dynamic quest and skill based combat also puts atomos to shame. I really hope atomos gameplay was just because of 1.0s limitations.

Honestly Starlord, you were the main proponent calling for patience while insisting the flood was coming. You beat that horse before it got out of the stables.

Honestly Baxter, I wouldn't haven't been beating down patience like a dead horse if it wasn't for the other people beating down the flood like a dead horse. Same thing with "All Summer long".

and flood in terms of news is subjective anyhow, 1 person can get a crap load of information and say " where's the flood" another person can get decent amount of information ( which we did) and be satisfied with it. It's all about the gimmie gimmie gimmie.

This community always amazes me, brings the life into me =). Thank you NA Community!

I guess I'm just too old school. I grew up with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest started developing good stories around DQ4, IMO.

I do agree with your statement on FF8 though, I couldn't stand that game.
