Why should any of us root for Wuk Lamat?

This is 100% what I'm expecting to happen. Be it with all 3 of the non-racists or just Wuk and her Miqo'te brother symbolically taking over for the two heads and personalities of the current leader.

This reminds me of the whole Steppe plot in SB. We go in there, and take advantage of the sacred traditions of the Xaela in order to rope them into a war they don't really have a personal stake in. But nobody ever questions the morality of what we're doing. Not even in a 'this is sketchy but they like to fight and we need allies to stop the Empire so ends justify the means' sort of way. Same with the pirate mafia who shake people down for 'protection money' and are basically bandits and thugs but they're opposed to the empire so let's just not acknowledge how sketchy helping them actually is.

Here at least, it's explicitly stated that it's normal and encouraged for the candidates to seek out outside help. So it's less 'we're going in there to use this event for our own gain' and more 'one of the candidates is inviting us to take part, in a contest where seeking outside help and building outside relations is explicitly condoned and encouraged.' With a side of 'one of the other candidates is going to start a war if he wins' as another reason to go.

As for how I feel about backing Wuk specifically, I'll have to see in 6.0 as we're introduced to the other candidates.

It would be interesting if wuk's exceedingly cheerful and positive personality was also a mask because she needed to sell you on the whole thing. At the very least I expect her to be like Gosetsu where she display a forced confident façade because she knows it helps inspire confidence in others regardless of her own anxiety (and perhaps because she believe this is a quality she needs to demonstrate as a leader).
It would just seem out of place for her to be nothing more than meets the eye after they managed to create interesting characters in the past.

i support her becuse she only true furry out of the 4, we got mr nerd boy who was to afraid to go full furry 2 lizard boys who will basicly turn it into china which is bad


so honestly she is the best person to run the area a location should be ran by emotions not logic and all that other stuff

So, did you explicitly commit to doing anything more than going to the New World on someone else's dime? And how, at this point, in-game, do you know that one of the other "contestants" is a Miqo'te (and the supposed Villain)?

Strong agree with this. I feel that the void storyline, for the 'narrative reward' it had, took longer than needed. The Aetherfont was really unecessary as a dungeon and they could've moved the Lunar Subterrane to that patch. Make Golbez the dungeon boss and Zeromus the trial.

Also it would be much more credible if Wuk Lamat actually hired the WoL's services - she is royalty after all. Could've added all the frills she did 'we also have adventure, a new place to explore, and this really big paycheck!'. Could be fun if Tataru was involved just to try to convince the WoL that the deal was really good.

The idea is that the WOL is in it for the adventure. To explore new lands and see new things. Being bribed by a big pile of gold IMO would only hurt the narrative going into DT.

I'm so torn on Wuk personally, so far she seems like a cartoon character, borderline shonen protagonist who wants to be the hokage of the pirates or whatever they say in dragon ball.

If thats all she is then damn I hope she doesnt get a lot of screen time

I mean, as a cat owner I think it's pretty realistic a giant cat would be able to convince me to help her. I can't even move my cats out of my chair because I'll feel bad for disturbing them, you think I'd say no if they asked me to help them rule a country or whatever. You know how many blankets I've bought just because I know they'd be soft and my cats would want to sit on them?!

FFXIV writers love that "show a naive character what it takes to be a real hero" shtick.
