I'll wait and see what they do with tanks this coming expansion. At the moment, the only thing that you give up playing a melee dps compared to a tank is the invuln-swap quicktime event that you do every so often, especially with bosses positioning themselves. In exchange you get a more involved rotation, significantly more dps, and more opportunities to have impact. It's good to know that there's a fun fallback option out there in case tanking issues continue to be ignored.
