RIP WHM/SCH

I think the "sacrifice Faerie for magic power" thing might be interesting if it actually just means "INT/MND buff" or "Magic damage & Healing potency buff" which is what I am expecting. If it's either, it's possible you'd use it for prepping for heavy raid damage. These changes make it easier for double-SCH in raids, actually. Prep for a massive AOE damage burst by:

1) Adloquium a target, Eye for an Eye and then Deployment Tactics to shield everyone up
2) Sacred Soil as normal
3) Use Eos Whispering Dawn burst (optional)
4) Dissipation and prep to cast Succor (possibly multiple times if something like Titan Stomps only stronger is something to watch out for)
5) Swiftcast -> Resummon Faerie

Obviously, a WHM is more than capable of doing the healing part significantly easier...Medica II or Cure III bomb after the attack is probably easier/simpler, but it gives SCH an option! WHM doesn't have the shields that SCH can do, but WHM is also superior for dealing with adds and for dealing with constant ongoing AoE damage even with the changes. This seems pretty balanced to me.

Not usually. When games like this talk about magic power, they almost always mean ++damage/healing.

RIP? why? i think they will be just fine. a lot of people will try with astrologian but at the end everybody come back to their main class. same thing happened to NINs. Astro will be just a 3rd healer who wil prolly fit in a party with a WHM or SCH. let's wait to see what will happen

As to the debate with emergency tactics over Healing + Shield vs. Raw Heal. I saw this over on the tank forums regarding some of the DRK skills. So healing the DRK to 100% HP after they use Living Dead will be important.

I think all 3 will be pretty well balanced, which calls for all those changes to the 2 current healing jobs. I mean, AST has to be able to solo heal all 4-man content or it would fail as a healer. In the same way, it has to be able to 'main' heal an 8-man since what would happen if a run got 2 AST? Will it ever have the healing throughput of WHM? No. Will it ever have the huge mitigation of SCH? Probably not. But what it will do is main heal enough to do all dungeons, and when you throw those buffs on top that can be done every 30 seconds and then improved at times from a 15% to 25% buff-- it looks like it would be well worth a slot and a good addition to the healing pool ^^

The way I interpreted the comment about Astrologian having a "lower throughput" was that the raw healing amount from their healing spells are limited in the same way as Scholar. Even in Diurnal Sect they may not get a direct 600 potency heal, but will instead get a spell with a lower potency that has an added Regen effect. Granted, though Scholar itself has a low output, the presence of a fairy companion for assistance helps significantly. In theory an Astrologian should be capable of putting out higher direct healing numbers than a Scholar without a fairy, but still less than a White Mage.

There is also the point that Astrologian might not have as easy of access to their higher tier single target heal. We only know of three thus far which include Benefic, Benefic II, and Dignity. The last of which is designed for emergencies and will surely have a cooldown of some short. Benefic II is reported to be inaccessible without first gaining a proc from Benefic. (Edit: The document which had this reported has since removed that information so I will now assume it is incorrect.) That would mean being limited to a single non-AoE heal as the primary means of restoring the health of an individual. It may be safe to assume that Benefit won't have an overall potency equal to that of Cure II or Adloquium and that may give the impression that they will have a harder time keeping up. It may be difficult to reassure that will not be the case without knowing more details which should arrive in the coming weeks. Last minute changes are still being made and I don't doubt we will see balance adjustments for multiple jobs in the 3.1 patch.

Where did you get this? The proc effect I read about sounded more like a Freecure proc than restricted spell access. I can't find where I read it but I think it was instant cast Benefic II or something.

Even SCH with the shield-heals has a baseline 400 potency heal in Physick. I would be surprised if AST did not have the same. That being said, they get CNJ cross class actions, perhaps they could spend one on Cure?

The first one there is where the information came from. The exact source for that information is unknown to me, but the documents assures that the information comes exclusively from trusted sources.

It does appear they are breaking the mold with the most basic healing spell. This is evident by the fact that it will be affected by the chosen Sect which suggests it will have a regen or shield component. It will operate differently from Cure which means that spell could have a place as a cross class skill, but using Cure would mean fewer chances to get a proc for Benefic II and thus may or may not be worth using.

Also it is worth noting that I added up the total number of abilities with a healing component for all three jobs. Currently Astrologian has the fewest confirmed healing abilities (equal to Scholar when you discount Embrace and Whispering Dawn) which leads me to suspect that we may not know their entire healing kit yet. At the same time, though, I do believe people are trying to be very thorough with gathering information and would feel surprised if there was a healing spell not documented. Even without specific details, just knowing that it exists would go a long way. Granted the offensive spell we see Scholar use in the video hasn't been documented so perhaps there is more to Astrologian as well.
