What went wrong? Is it the game or the grenre?

Seriously, you complain about lack of content, they give you content that should be lasting you months and you burn through it in weeks. No developer can afford to make enough content so that folks like your company members can play every single day for 8+ hours a day!

If you pay $60 for a new game and you marathon it from start to finish, playing eight or more hours a day, are you going to complain to the developer that it only lasted you a few days? >_>;

I'm tired of defending it. I didn't love the original XIV, but I was willing to give it a chance especially when YP took over. I actually enjoyed 1.23.

But watching the live letter, I just don't care for where ARR is going anymore, it's like they aren't listening at all and just catering to the WoW/GW2 crowd. And from what I've heard, XV (and the series in general from here out) is going to be more like an interactive movie with QTEs. If there's any truth to that... I just hate to see something I cherish go down like this. I really wanted XIV to be a better XI, but it's turning more and more into WoW with FF themes.

At least Bravely Default is awesome.

It got mentioned before in some other threads, yoshi should have saved up his time to build on top on their experience either XI or 1.23, It got mentioned on the Beta Forums and it got mentioned here already, you maybe should watch outside of your box.

"Don't play it so much you burn through or burn out" can just someone says who never played a real MMO what they supposed to be, a MMOs Needs Time sinks, and MMOs Needs Long time Goals and Long Lasting activitys. Thats how MMOs "should" work.

Do you ever asked yourself why YOU/WE/ALL need to make breaks in the current MMO world? Its because some Years ago MMO's hyped and the People with the lack of time managment, busy RL, wanna Play X different other games a week/month wanted to become a part of the Hype thats a human nature and Blizzard acted like this but with the step to the Money Blizzard did, they also destroyed the market for the Playerbase they made MMO's that "famous".

We pay a monthly fee for this game to get entertained. Entertainment means something different to everyone, some like leveling, some like dungeons, some like endgame etc. Do you think that 13€ a month is worth for a game that offers someone, who likes doin Endgame, 2 Hours of Game experience a week?

And it will not Change because even if i take a break and resub for the next update we just get 5 new turns and new Equipment and the raids before are useless so ill tell you even Semi-hardcore Players will finish this new Content within 1 Month and find themself in the same Situation again when the Hype from the new turns is over.

Two things:

The people who "burned" through content finished it before 2.1 hit. I personally tried my best to avoid 50 as long as possible, lvling crafting and doing quests. I didn't want to deal with the toxic end-game community I had heard stories about. I only hit 50 a month or so ago, and already have full darklight, and I am sitting at Titan HM to get my relic. What is next? The same 3 primals again, and Binding Coil. Otherwise it's the same dungeons you had to run to get philos.

Yoshi should have more focused on lvls 1-49 instead of saying "everything is at endgame" causing a huge amount of 50s who have no way to progress except the next dungeon on ilvl X. The game is insanely fast by design, and it's not hard at all to quickly finish content. 1-50 can be done in a week or two. Crafting can be leveled to 50 in even a shorter time due to leves! Your relic, barring Titan HM, can be done in a day. It's designed to give you everything quickly. People say grinding is an "outdated mechanic" but at least it paced the game. Also that phrase is so BS since you are grinding philos and myth anyway.

^ and therein lies my beef with ARR and "modern" MMOs in general (including FFXI now) in that it's no longer about the content, only the shinies at the end.

The shinies are always the main reason for doing anything, but at least back in the day content was made to last and be fun - even if you had all the loot you wanted from it there as still incentive to help friends or just genuinely enjoy it (like Assault/Nyzule Isle/Campaign). Now it's just grind the current stuff until the next patch comes out so you can grind that and so on - it's never-ending cycle that's also going to keep enforcing caps on the newer content so people can't even fully enjoy the benefits (limited as they are) of the armory system.

XI never penalized me for playing every job. It never said "you can't be a Warrior AND a White Mage!" (though granted that's a horrible MJ/SJ combo anyway, my point was we had more freedom to mix and match jobs and playstyles). Everything on here is just solo until you hit 50 (like WoW) and then spam the DF for endgame. Oh, yay.

I also just love how I've got all DoL and DoH @ 50 but they're near-useless outside of repairs and making my own food.

I should pull out mine and see what other dumb combos they had lol. TBH the guide was good for maps if you had V1 and knowing the quests in each zone for V2. You know, before they added ! to all quest givers.

Yeah I've still got mine buried under a pile of junk somewhere.

I really do miss watching guys like Avesta and Kanican soloing seemingly impossible stuff on RDM & BLM respectively. 1.23 had a bit of that but not anymore.

Once again it's a vocal minority that is complaining about XIV. It's not like XI enough? Too bad so sad. XI is bad outdated MMO game design. There's a reason nobody makes grindfest questless directionless MMOs like XI anymore. If that's the kind of dying game you want to play, you're free to go back to playing XI.

Stop complaining that XIV is too much like WoW and other modern MMOs. It's a winning formula and if you get bored of it, that's your own problem. There are millions of other gamers out there who don't mind it.
