Marriage feedback [inofficial Poll]

It's a little odd to see people who think that in-game marriage is a pointless feature, and yet I've never seen any of them against things like achievement points, which serves no other purpose than to have just another number to brag about.

Even if the marriage they're implementing in FFXIV affects nothing else in the game, it wouldn't be the only feature. All games are full of cosmetics that are there to enrich the experience.

In response particularly to Warlock, this also isn't Final Character Creation Fantasy XIV, nor Final Decorate Your House Fantasy XIV, nor Final Emote Animation Fantasy XIV. If you're going to point out every self contained feature that doesn't effect the core gameplay, your list going to have to be a lot longer.

I think the difference is precisely as you have stated. There are many people who crave achievement, and certainly marriage is not an "achievement".

However, there are people who put significant attachment to their characters and I am certain those people (presumably like yourself?) add a fair amount of importance to the concept of validating a relationship over electronic medium. This is especially true if that is where they do most of their free-time with their significant other.

Personally, my wife and I both play and she thinks in-game marriage is silly. I asked her at one point and her response was:

"Is the gear you get worth the gil we would have to spend?"

So there is varying opinions on if the feature should be there but we know it will be in either case so it is (again) a fore-gone conclusion.

sorry I think your wife is silly >.> why should we have to buy gear? I think money should just be there for things like housing and marriage... maybe even vanity outfits... but for gear itself I don't like spending all my money on one piece of gear >.>

No, I feel more that this is a compelling social feature. Another way in which I can interact with the people I play with.

More directly supported rp for the rpg players :D. One of the biggest reasons* why I'm a fan of changing the name of the system is so that the system can be used by a greater audience (bind of love, or bind for kinship). (Though as I said before the theme should be able to relate the RP's desire - not to remove the marriage (wedding) feature but to rather expand it for other uses and themes as well). * There are other good reasons as well like being able to better develop lore and possibly offending less people

Obviously not everyone will use it anyway but that's like saying fishing should be removed because not everyone plays or enjoys it.. lol (I have a level 50 fisher, example relevant :P).

Any rep reply to the Japanese threads on this subject? It seems all the reps hit hibernation since Bahamut has struck lol.

It shouldn't just be about what you're getting out of it though. For some people it might be but others do want this for reasons other than some tangible benefit. Just because you don't want it other than for some benefit doesn't mean others share that sentiment.

They've already been working on this feature so the dev time is spent/being spent so there's really no going back. If they decide to not put the feature in at this stage all that will accomplish is completely wasting the time already put into it.

As many have suggested, naming the feature something other than marriage will allow them to avoid any PR issues while removing the restriction.

I have a simple solution to the Issue.
by making the only way marriages can be run is by the players.

All SE would need to do is to allow a couple to purchase matching rings(or some other item) if they both agree to their names being on the same ring. The couple can intermingle their items by setting up their own private guild - if they end up implementing a shared guild system.

SE is out of the loop and, has an added bonus of engaging the fans make their own content.

There is no benefit to this. Just rename it like most people agree and let people "marry" whoever.

lol Marriage through a game is retarded if you are forever alone go out and date someone doesn't matter your preference, but to get so defensive and hissy fit at the slightest opposition of something so banal added to a game as weddings is ridiculous. If SE feels generous enough to add this i hope they do it at least 5 years from now after they have implemented REAL FUN stuff to do in the game :D
