Developers, I sincerely hope you release the gender restrictions on Hrothgar and Viera races, please. Those of us asking for both genders are only asking for what the rest of the races already have, however we are very appreciative of the work you do. So much so, that we don't want your hard work to be limited to a single gender. It's worth so much more than that! It's worthy of more and it will shine so much more brightly for truly, everyone. We appreciate your work so much that we don't want the same mistakes of the past to ensue again. Thank you! /day4
Also, the Hrothgar are cool and all, but there's a WORLD of difference between the Viera faces and the Hrothgar faces. The Hrothgar don't blink once in their trailer! Their faces don't move.... at all really.
Maybe they were finished recently?
Edit: I think saw the cheetah looking guy blink twice. (Once while it was showing his face and again while he was walking around. I could be wrong about the second time but I swear to god he blinked when the camera was close to his face)
Someone probably said this already, but with Yoshi-P mentioning wolf heads specifically with Hrothgar... could it be possible Lupins are one of their clans, and they have yet to reveal that? One can dream.
They used different emotes... Like you can see them opening their mouths and stuff with the emotes that they used in the Hrothgar trailer. Stop spouting nonsense lol. This same kind of stuff was said when the Viera trailer hit "it's unfinished! they're the same as au'ra emotes!"

i believe the wolf head is the one of the left if not its just same as lion head in front but white
which looks nothing like Lupin (sadly) maybe as a hat some day for lupin but really isnt a good replacement i guess

And people say that we who are complaining are rude.
No we cant get everything in life but your first point was how nobody is happy about something that is not finished for both sides. Again why should we be happy about this? Especially in a game where they undid genderlocks on other races and where we always got a whole race afterwards?
In the end if your sentence is the answer, then none of us should ever complain about anything in the game again. I doubt that this would make a better game though.
Assuming most have, but if not I would like the first post in this thread http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...w-your-support and maybe add your posts to that one. I imagine that thread would have more of an impact if everyone who wanted male Viera consolidated in one spot.
Who is "we", and what are we supposed to be past?
"The Value of coexistence will not be found 'neath a loincloth"
Indeed, there is much more to the nature of male and female genders then simple biological anatomy. More than some arbitrary line between the sexes. No, in fact, all concepts in existence express both masculine and feminine aspects. Active and passive, positive and negative, the concepts of justice and of mercy, and many more. Such is the term Dualism that has been known for thousands of years.
Are you past this fundamental truth? The Viera seem to be. As does Square Enix.
Here's female Hrothgar: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...our-support%21
I find it interesting there are so many votes for the female hrothgar, curious how many are voting because they're interested vs just support for others (for male Viera as well).
Well I can only speak about myself, but I only play females yet I still supported the male viera because I want it to be equal for both races. I do believe that others probably did the same. But of course there could also be way more people wanting beastial races than we thought there would be.
Yeah you nailed exactly what I was silently thinking. The support I expected but nearly to the level of male viera is interesting lol, obviously there are more than one reasons why it could be as it is.
It'll probably get a bit farther apart as we go on in time but I am curious how far apart it'll be.
Kupos, we're not asking for an always-flying-Moogle race. (Although I would die a magnificently happy fanboy if that ever happened!) We just want genders for all races! We appreciate your hard work, especially the fans who have been with you since 1.0! Thanks /day5?
People are really so entitled that they're complaining about this? Anyone who is that upset has played themselves by buying into the hype of rumors and speculation. Yoshi said they went with gender locks for now because people were requesting both Viera and a new beast like race. Guess what you got what you wanted without the dev team sacrificing more time than they need to by having to go through all gearsets 4 different times to get designs worked for the new races and genders. I like this move. If you decide to resub over this then don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I voted in both. I want male Viera and voted Hrothgar out of principle. If we get jacks but no lionesses that'd be quite an unfair situation. (Also I kinda wish they called them bucks since that's the actual name of male rabbits. But whatevz. I still love the lore they wrote around them, for the most part.)
This. And time is of the essence. The fact of the matter is, Square has already decided not to introduce male Viera and female Hrothgar. The longer Square waits, the harder it will be for them to reverse that decision due to increasing developmental complexity. So the best tactic for getting both genders is for everyone to keep the volume high.
Game studios work in rhythms. They probably still have a lot of money and manpower right now because they're still finishing content for Shadowbringers. But once that's done, the principal development group will downscale into a skeleton crew. If people wait until 6.0, it will never happen because there will be dozens, probably hundreds more wearables made between now and then. Square's excuse against adding them will continue to grow.
Completed races have to be placed in Square's urgent-important quadrant, so it becomes a certainty. Otherwise, it won't happen.
Showing continued support for all genders for all races! No gender locked races please! Male Viera Fem Roth Lets go! Male Viera Fem Roth Lets go!! /day 6
Rename the second new race to Viera male! Yoshi said Viera is the new race so be it! Don’t do more than people asked and get yourself in trouble because most people aren’t that grateful about your extra efforts, Yoshi!
Streamlined both new races into just ONE new race named Viera! We have both males and females new race gender. Just that they are called 2 different names! Makes people confused and angry! By combining both, problems solved!
I guess they chose they'd rather face the genderlock riot than going for the good ol' gaming trope:

At least being genderlocked gives the possibility of the other gender to still be added, but if Hrothgar were indeed male Viera, the 7 hells would've unleashed.
Dear Devs, I have dreamed of Male Viera since Final Fantasy XII. This is a fantasy that predates XIV. Please add Male Viera and Female Rothgar. Thank you. /day 7 (I missed a day T.T)
I am strongly against having gender-locked races like this. The Male Viera concept art had a unique build and was highly requested. There is no ground in using lore to reason it. Additionally, denying a female version of the only beastly race is a dated concept.
This ↑. And I agree with the character model builds that the original concept art showed for the Male Vieras. The Female Roth will definitely be the stockier female build than any of the other races, I just really hope they fix the eyes and the over all quality of the Rothgar face. I posted earlier in the thread about the big differences between the faces shown on the Viera trailer versus the faces on the Roth trailer. But ultimately, everyone will be happy if both races are added. /Day 8
Viera males and Hrothgar females!!! Let them out, Square! :D
I'm all for adding more stuff :)
I was surprised they decided no Male viera for now after how many people were looking forward to them on here.
Not to sound snarky, but if the fans genuinely didn't like fantasy tropes, they wouldn't have demanded Viera. Not that I'm judging. It's just apparent to me that the Viera female design is a trope design in and of itself, regardless of what is done with the males. It's the old supermodel women in high heels/playboy bunny trope. Making the men smaller/shorter/thinner, etc doesn't change that. Roger Rabbit didn't make Jessica Rabbit any less of a trope. :P
Mainly because they were originally just working on the Hrothgar (likely for over 2 years if interviews imply anything), but then decided to work on the female Viera (instead of female Hrothgar) because people have been requesting them for years and they already had the character reference for them.
As long as they don't pull any genderlocked job class tomfoolery I don't care what they do.
Femroe is the best race and gender combination anyway.

Rick, out of curiosity; are you going to be posting in this thread daily just to show how many days its been since Fan Fest? I'm pretty sure SE/Yoshi-P are fully aware of the issue at this point, as well as the threads calling favour for both male Viera and female Hrothgar (they have over 1k likes). They're not gonna suddenly make the two races genders become playable on 5.0 release day. We likely won't see them until 6.0 (for the hopeful, 5.4).
