Well, i didn't have a backstory for my original "Character" Caitlyn Aldora. I just picked a name based on a list of Celtic first and surnames. But, when SE told us that we would be able to change our name when 2.0 would be released, i started to think of a name which would fit within the Eorzean Lore. After that, i didn't just want to say, "Hey, i've changed my name into C'rysta Zeith". That's why i wrote a story about it.

It was fun to write it. (^_^ ) I hope you all enjoy it.

Usually I use the same 3-4 name for my characters, without looking for backstory, or follow the lore, but this time I spent some time thinking about the question "why my elezen character have this name? Why she don't have a name more fitted for her race?"
The answer was: " she had a Elezen name: Merune Verger, but it was discarded when she was adopted by an Hyur. Aradan is the surname of her new father, Meru because a new life need a new name" ;)

Concering my character's name... Well, the first time I used the name 'Coris' was in 2008. But actually I tend to create a character first and then think of a name that fits.
Her surname is btw a name of a male character from a book /cough (A shapeshifter that transforms into a rat xD)

Keith Dragoon is a long time alias of mine. I drew a character in elementary who was part dragon part man (wings, tail and eyes) and rode a dragon while using a rifle. I named him Keith and since he was a mounted Calvaryman I added dragoon to the end

As for Eorzean lore my char was abandoned in the forest as a kitten so he never had a proper name so he picked up parts here and there and called himself Keith Dragoon.

Hmm talking bout name origins huh? Well I came up mines while looking up latin translations. Virtus = Latin for Hero or a courageous person. Kerensky comes from BattleTech universe better known as Mech Warrior. He's the great leader and founder of 20 Clans who left known space to preserve a better future. Though those clans returned to their old homeland just to wage war and retake it for themselves. I just liked the sound of the name.

Sometimes I'll also use the name "Virtuso" which is latin for a musician. Which I felt really good for me since I'm madly in love with classic orchestra. Sometimes when creating a female character I name it "Virtisa". The added "a" simply is based on the Spanish language where "o" is switched with "a" to signify a female correlation.

If we're gonna talk about names and stuff, mine is pretty simple. I chose my character to be part of the Raptor clan, hence the R before the ' in her forename.
The rest is inherited from her great grandmother. Her last name is inherited from her father, who was a Highlander.

As for her origins, born and raised in Ala Migho until it was invaded (parents were killed during the invasion),
fled to the black shroud and was taken up and raised by the Coeurlclaw gang until she turned 16 and left to find a new home in Gridania. :3

"Moon beams and crystal dreams" is a line I came up with when I was a kid and enjoyed writing songs. That line is the only one I remember from a lullaby I wrote.

As a teenager, I was having trouble coming up with a unique name for an email address. All the fantastical names I came up with off the top of my head were taken, unless I wanted to a random number to the end, which I didn't. Brilliant plan B: go with an acronym. As soon as I came up with that plan, the old lullaby line popped into my head. Being a "cool" teenager, I went with "n" for "and", and thus mbncd was born.

A few years later, full "real" names became big things on websites and I didn't want to give that information to everyone (this was before the days of FaceBook, when people actually cared about personal information staying private) so I decided I needed an alias. I remembered the line that had inspired my main nick and took the last two words from it. Thus, Crystal Dreams became my permanent online alias whenever I couldn't use mbncd.

All of that was a long time ago, though some people still think that Crystal Dreams is a reference to the "the crystal dreams" line in the FFXIV prophecy/advertising/etc. It was mine first ;P

Forgot to tell my story :P
My online handle Wolfwood Belmir is a combo of the name Wolfwood that I took from Trigun when I was back in highschool (a lifetime ago now O_o) and it sorta stuck as my online name since I used it everywhere and I responded to it more then my actual name >_>...
Now it doesn't even remind me of the character its from and I just see it as my other name :P
Belmir is a combo of two things and a name I made up after Wolfwood on its own was taken everywhere.
Bel comes from a series of books by David Eddings (not devil survivor :P) but I won't go into detail on the slight chance someone is cool enough to get its meaning on their own :P
Mir is from my all time favourite game character from Ar Tonelico 1 + 2 (although she goes by a different name for most of the second one).

I really love the concept and it seems like such a cool name for fantasy or even some sci-fi games. (used it in Persona 3 portable with the female character)
Other names I use for female characters include Celty and Alita (just going by my favourite characters, and from what sounds cool ^^) with Belmir as a surname.
Or I look up more Latin phrases :P
